Dont expect a fancy set up. Its a Filipino restaurant. But you know what? That's fine because that's the whole point. I live in Boston now and originally from San Diego. My moms Filipino so I love the food. I came to NY with my girlfriend to visit and I wasn't disappointed.

Try the chicken adobo and the lumpia. Straight awesome.

If you want to try some ethnic and exotic food, this place is recommendable. This restaurant is blessed with a skillful Filipino chef, which I could say is rare to find in the tristate area.

The greatest part of living in New York is that you will always find your home away from home. In the middle of all the chaos and diversity, there will be a restaurant, a bar, or a little store that captures exactly what you had growing up- this to me,is Bayan Cafe.

Bayan houses the best authentic Filipino comfort food in Manhattan. From the longganeisa meal to cure hangovers to the adobo and lumpia to satisfy home-cooked cravings, they cook it exactly how it would be done in Manila- flavorful with a dash of personable hospitality.

This place is a necessity for those who would like to go back to their roots and a must-try for adventerous cuisiners who would like to try authentic Filipino food.

Just a friendly reminder though, it is CASH only. There are plenty of ATMS nearby.

  • Pros: authentic Filipino food, personable customer service

This place serves up food that reminds me of dishes I grew up eating. The pinakbet is a bit spicier than my mom used to make, but very tasty and the veggies are just the right texture- not overcooked at all. Definitely order the daing na bangus (marinated boneless milkfish) - everyone I've ever brought to this restaurant says it's the best fish they've ever had, and I wholeheartedly agree. If you are new to Filipino food, the chicken adobo (tender pieces of chicken in vinegar, soy sauce and garlic) is a must. The servers here are very friendly and attentive, but not overbearing.

  • Pros: authentic Filipino food
  • Cons: very small space and gets crowded
