Besides the food being very good the staff makes you feel like family. Love the brunch because of its eclectic menu.

Nice place, busy

by Good time at Citysearch

Hey checked it out for the first time on Sunday 9/6.. Im new to Harlem, I enjoyed it, the food was ok, the manager was very helpful and engaging with my wife and I. The staff though they were understaffed worked really hard to make us feel welcome. Will be back again!

  • Pros: Manager was really nice
  • Cons: Was really busy

Won't let you give them money

by CynC at Citysearch

I've been here several times for drinks, once for brunch and once for dinner. It's sad because I wanted to spend money in Harlem for my birthday but I won't be doing so. I have really wanted to have my 30th birthday party in August here and I was in Hudson River back in March and asked the manager and he told me to come back - like he couldn't answer my questions. I was ready to pay then...Then I was in there for brunch this past Sunday and told the waiter that I want to have my birthday and asked if I could make a reservation. He came back with an email address and told me to email. I then asked the hostess if I could just reserve the table I wanted and she told me to go to the website. I emailed with the specifics of my request. A day later I received an email saying that I should email the party promoter, who, I think, is the same person that I spoke to in March. I called him already incredulous to the legwork I'm having to do to spend my money. I told him that I wanted to reserve a table for my birthday and he said, "How many bottles do you want?" Ok. How much are the bottles? Do you have any packages? "Well for a group of 6 you'll have to get at least 3 or 4 bottles at $200 a piece. Really? Because I've priced way fancier places in the city and they have established packages for $400 plus tax. "I'm not trying to be cocky but the party is really popular and you have to buy at least 4 bottles and then I can see if I can waive the door charge." I'm sorry but you think I'm spending $800 in this dump and you were considering harassing my friends at the door? I just hung up the phone. This place is disorganized, overpriced, and the food is gross. I just wanted to have it outside in Harlem but now I'll have to scramble to find another place - probably downtown. I'm really pi**ed because I've been trying to plan this for months! They should do a better job of working with their customers or they're going to be out of business really soon.

  • Pros: Nice atmosphere
  • Cons: Horrible disorganized no appreciation for customers

DO NOT GO HERE

by marimarimari at Citysearch

Place turns into a lounge/club at night. Poorly organized, lack of bathrooms for amount of people, on top of being pushed and grabbed by the wrist by a six foot tall male security guard bc I didnt move in the direction he wanted me too (i am a five foot tall female), after I told him to let me go and started screaming because he didnt he called for 3 more male security guards and it took for my boyfriend to break thru the huddle they had around me fo let me go-i did file a report with the precint, meanwhile girls where fighting over bathrooms upstairs. DO NOT GO HERE. Not worth the hassle at all. Very BAD.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: security, expensive cover, $20 cups of sangria etc etc

Poor Service, Poor Attitude

by bgjesq at Citysearch

Decided to take in brunch impromptu, went to HRC as a walk in, promised service after 2o min. wait, invited to sit at bar to order drinks, after 30. mins and no follow-up from any host, checked back in with staff, told by male host with heavily vaselined lips that now he had no idea how long it would be, taking reservations in, basically chastised for not having a reservation, told that he had to take his "regulars" first, basically his "special" clientele..continued to wait...watched people come in after us be sitted.... stared at an empty table directly in front of us for over an hour ....questioned staff one last time..Mr. Host tried to justify the long useless delay...along comes young short latina hostess who had no idea what was going on...testily justifying the empty table by explaining that a woman had a 2 o'clock reservation (we were there before 1pm) and I exhaustingly informed both parties that my small party of 3 could have eaten and been ready to leave while these geniuses tried to figure out how to fit us "non-regular walk-ins" into their schedule. Left very frustrated and more hungary than when we came and had to pay the valet $10.00 to illegally park my car directly across the street...Went to York Grill which is a " true" upscale brunch with good food and a cheaper price...don't waste your time here...the food looked awful anyway...ugly food on pretty plates with pseudo-upscale flavor...

You could go elsewhere.

by CatOrt at Citysearch

I went for brunch today for a friend's birthday. We had a party of 10. The first sign that the brunch may not go well, was the waiter ASKING if we wanted water. Isn't that an automatic at a restaurant?!

The next sign was their plate of muffins and sweet rolls. They gave us one plate with 5 choices... did I mention it was a party of 10. Then the Bellini and the Mimosa, that were supposed to be unlimited, were only refilled once. Call me crazy, but there should be someone continuously filling empty glasses.

The food was absolutely fantastic. We were being understanding since it seems they had only one waiter for the room. He seemed to get more help halfway through out brunch.

However, the wait staff member named Damien was the best. I don't even remember our waiter's name. If anyone from the restaurant is reading this, I suggest you make Damien the guy who takes orders and takes care of the tables. A person with a great personality is needed for the job, to entertain, and have us come back.

This is a great place if you are not someone who cares about service. The food is great but I do not see myself coming back anytime soon.

  • Pros: Food really good
  • Cons: Service was not good at all.

Waste of time and money!!

by Whitegurl at Citysearch

I went there for my friends birthday with 7 other friends. We made reservations for 8pm (although we requested 8:30pm the hostess said we HAD to reserve from 8pm but that it wouldn't be a problem if we got there at 8:30pm) Well once there we were told that our tables were given away and that we had to wait 15 mins, which turned into an hour.

After an hour wait we only got 1 table for 4 people when our party consisted of 8 and where given a hard time when we requested more chairs. Once seated the waitress said we either order NOW or wait till she has time she had other tables to serve. ( wow, the attitude) Any how; we finally got our food and can you believe we got burgers before we got our salads, in fact our salad didn't even arrive until every one was finished eating and was already on the second drink... Not to mention the BIG PLATE(which supposedly serves 2 people) was the exact portion size as the SMALL PLATE but twice as expensive. And we were being rushed out although once we asked for the check it took us 15 mins to find our waitress and another 15 mins to actually bring it.

All in all... Too expensive for the type of food and service they provide.
