Good cheap Chinese and Vietnamese Food back in the EV!
by native NYer
I can't walk out of my door of almost 40 years without bumping into something expensive and trendy, populated with people who treat my neighborhood like a very hip tourist destination which I guess it is. So for old dogs like me who just want a decent cheap delicious fresh meal of any kind, restaurants like Plump Dumpling are a life saver. The owner knows me, the staff is lovely, the food is fantastic and fresh. And I don't have to dress up like a character out of Sex in the City or Eclipse to walk in and feel at home. It's just a great place in all ways. yeah I could do without the flat screen TV but please if that's the price I pay for great dumplings and Vietnamese dishes I can live with it. And I run into my neighbors there as well.
- Pros: fresh, delicious, inexpensive, neighborhood, warm, friendly
- Cons: not the greatest atmosphere but who cares!
Best in the city
by Phild417
This place has been outstanding for me. The first time I went there, I ordered chicken with broccoli (my test run) and I actually saw the owners wife cutting a fresh pience of chicken and using fresh broccoli. The owner then said he gets all the ingredients from Chinatown each morning. The tatse, price, and service were outstanding. The only flow was that he asked me twice twice, are you sure you dont wantt dumplings. My second time there I got the dumplings and they were outstanding as well.
- Pros: FRESH, owner cooks and comes and talks to you
- Cons: pressure to try the dumplings
Quick fix for Good Chinese food
by Athena Chang , Citysearch Contributor
I love Plump Dumplings. The owner is always friendly and he cooks up some really yummy Malaysian style dishes such as spicy curry noodle soups and home-made fat dumplings.
My favorite dishes here are the spicy curry char-shew (Chinese BBQ) noodle soup as well as their dumplings. they also have really good tomato beef over fried rice. Recently they added Banh-Mih sandwiches to their menu and they taste pretty good too although they are not as cheap as those in Chinatown.
- Pros: Good dumplings, Malay noodle soup
- Cons: Avoid Hot and Sour Soup
Super Dumpling!

After a difficult search for a good East Village Chinese restaurant, I came across Plump Dumpling. As the name implies, their dumplings are fantastic, and they also serve the usual Chinese and apparently Vietnamese menu. I've had the bubble tea as well. The prices are great, and you feel like you're having a great economic meal you might usually only find in China Town.
- Pros: Great Dumplings, price, menu
- Cons: none yet
One try and I am hooked
by MFDemby
I walked in after being drawn by the delicious smell in one hungry afternoon. After my first bite of the juicy veggie dumpling, I was hooked. Peter's unique process of dumpling making holds in so much flavor, it was like an explosion in my mouth! Thank you for your delicious dumplings Peter. They are so fresh and stayed warm all the way back to my office where I ate them under the eyes of jealous onlookers.
- Pros: Never better
- Cons: none
Only Chinese restaurant I go to
by Tran
The dumplings are great, especially the steamed pork ones, but I also like their Mandarin roast duck/chicken noodle dishes the best. Recently I've also been ordering their General Tso's chicken & shrimp combo. Very scrumptious and the shrimp pieces are jumbo.
I live in the neighborhood, and this is literally the only place I go to for Chinese food!
- Pros: Great service & good, inexpensive food
- Cons: dining area not the best
the only one good dumpling place
by KIKILP
There used to be a lot of good, inexpensive restaurants in the neighborhood, but for the last few years you have to choose one or the other. Plump Dumpling is one of the exceptions. Good food, great service.
- Pros: the best place to go

Don't even try

Worst chinese food ever. I ordered Pepper Steak for Lunch, it came with white rice, hot & sour soup. Pepper steak is fine, but white rice is very dry, taste like 3 days old rice, and especially hot & sour soup is horrible. literary, nothing in the soup, I found only 1 slice of mushroom, and taste too sour. Not friendly. Don't even try this chinese food.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Bad rice, soup, service
GOOD DUMPLING AND FRESH FOREVER
by liew
I always get delivery or take out from this place since it's near my job. You really can't go wrong with their lunch specials. They are a reliable chinese food takeout/delivery place that is super quick. my best bets are the DUMPLING and anything fried rice. I've had their sliced chicken and broccoli (also good, but not a fan of the texture of the chicken). I love this place tho because they are so quick with delivery it's amazing. If you need a place for good sesame chicken, this is it!
