not customer friendly
by ramsinator
I went to Dalton's because they were on a website that features gift certificates for NYC restaurants. I decided to try them out with the use of a $25 gift certificate. After the meal the management refused to honor it, saying they had discontinued their service with that company 6-7 days prior. There was absolutely no consideration of the fact that I had found them on that website and then relied on them honoring whatever deal they had with the company.
The happy hour was not a great deal, and the food is nothing special for the price. With the economy the way it is you would think an average restaurant doing business in NYC would try to accommodate a new customer in some way. I will never go back and would never recommend it to anyone.
- Pros: ok bar food and friendly waitstaff
- Cons: nothing special
Dalton's

I have been to this neighborhood pub a few times since it opened. In the beginning it was good food...a great new place, nice and clean and they were eager to please. Since that first time I've never once felt the love. Not sure who the bartenders were trying to please. It was a completely off vibe.
Now there is a new guy. He wants to make it a neighborhood place again. His name is Mike and anyone who noticed a change at The Mercury Bar will know that it had a lot to do with Mike.
Sports. Friends having a good time. Simpler menu with really great stuff. It's all going to be there.
If you live in Hell's Kitchen-give Dalton's a second chance....it's on its way to being the new favorite neighborhood hang.
- Pros: Good Food, Good Bar
- Cons: It's History
OVERCHARGE YOU & SCAM by other patrons
by foodienyc917
Do not go here. I went here on 2 different occasions after work and both times we were over charged. I dont drink beer & there were 2 different kinds on my bill, which I had to ask for a detailed bill 2 times! The next time I went here, 2 guys at the bar ordered my co-worker & I shots (Which we really didn't want & only drank one) We offered to buy back a round(common courtesy), of which they got one beer & one soda. Our bill, AGAIN, I had to insist on an itemized one, had the shots they bought us!! and 2 more! When I mentioned this to the female bartender, she couldn't understand what the problem was. One of the guys whipped out some cash quickly as he saw I was about to make as stink of this. Then, Today, I find out another female co-worker had been overcharged as well and there were 2 guys who "Bought" a round. Do these guys know the bartender? Not sure - either way - dont go back. If you absoluty must - make sure you get an itemized bill and check it!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Overcharge you - dont go!
A good time for anyone!!

If youre ever wandering through midtown and are undecided on a place to eat/get drinks, look no further than Daltons Bar and Grill. I was never much for sports bars, having never truly cared about the outcome of the game, but Daltons has got me hooked! (not on sports, on the scene) The intimate lighting, cool outside dining and many flat screens set the mood for a very casual and yet totally satisfying evening. Also, the food is MUCH better than typical bar food. Its nothing like it, not by a long shot. (try the ranch dressing, its better than most) Whether you want to share a cold beer with your buddies and watch the game, or sip on a martini with your girlfriends, Daltons is the best of both worlds. The bartenders and servers are exactly what youd expect to see in New York City. Fun-loving people with energetic personalities work the bar and the tables, and never fail to make you laugh. (which is important to me) So if youre walking the streets with an empty stomach and want to catch the score of the game, stroll over to Daltons and get your drink on. They always make you feel welcome! And its not expensive!!
- Pros: clean, consistent
- Cons: cant think of any
New Manager will Run This Thing Into the Ground - Don't Go!
by surfguido
I've been to this bar several times before and it was always great, although it isn't HD TV as advertised. The food is above average bar fare, and they do have all the games on many big flat screens. I went today and probably had the most negative experience I've had so far in New York, and it centers around what seems to be a new manager (Irish guy named Paul). First, Paul starts yelling at the bartenders for not doing something - very unpleasant, but fine. Then, a patron points out a sign that says "We show all college and football games - free wings at halftime". When a patron asks about that, Paul rudely says that is only Monday nights, and then leaves the sign up! The patron then mumbled to me he is never coming here again. Then, I get my bill and they have overcharged me for something that was free the first week - coke refills. Then, they said I had 5 when I at most had 3 - this amounts to $14 in coke. I spoke with the Bartender (new girl) and she refused to do anything - then I spoke to the manager, and he said since I wasn't charged the first week, the fact that I was overcharged is justified. I can tolerate so many aspects of bad service, except overcharging, and being completely rude about it. This is not some hot club - there are a million places in New York that do what you do and better - I will never go here again and I advise you to do the same, particularly if you see a short bald man named Paul.
- Pros: Many Flat screen (Not HD) TVs with all the games on, and they will try to show your game
- Cons: Scam you to make money - Manager is unkind to customers and employees
Everything was great, but......that is not HD!

I had a great time at Dalton's last night watching game 1 of the NBA Finals. But while it's true there are 15 50 inch plasmas, don't be misled. Dalton's does not receive HD broadcasts. Repeat. NO HD! How you can spend that kind of money to put that many plasmas in a place, and not subscribe to HD service is beyond me, but that's what they do (I think the equivalent is getting a Lexus with cloth interior).
Anyway, other than the HD issue, everything else about the place was great. Friendly, helpful staff. Friendly patrons. Not too crowded. And the drink prices were very reasonable. I would recommend it to everyone who doesn't care about HD. For those (like me) who do, I will probably go back at some point; but with no HD it can't be my go to place for sports.
- Pros: Friendly staff. Fun music. 15 50 inch plasmas
- Cons: The plasmas are not in HD.
