Vebo Fitness

by luizinho2

Since Vebo took over Club H,this club went back to what it used to be.A clean and nice club.Towels are back, more classes now available. Finally they keep filling up the water in the men's locker room. The only thing they have to fix are the tv on the treadmills. Some of them are not working. They should re-open the cafe and go back to offer some health food.

Great Gym, No Pool.

by skruppa1

A great gym to work out at.. but no pool! It didn't really matter until recently.. I've been rehabilitating my ankle from a soccer sprain and now I need a pool! This place does have an open feel to it and is pleasantly quiet in the female locker room. I would recommend it for its cleanliness and overall atmosphere. Only downside is the pool, but I still gave it four stars because I knew that going in...

Overpriced, Under-maintained, Went Downhill

by FreidaLei

Do not be fooled by the glowing positive reviews that popped up after two former members revealed Club H is not what it advertises itself as. And it is more than just coincidental that two reviews were written on the same dates (and one by someone billing themselves as Jane Jonies! C'mon! Really?).

Club H *could* be a wonderful club given its size, location, and the class space, HOWEVER, equipment is often broken, the locker rooms have been severely under maintained, and the swanky cafe/juice bar goes largely untended.

I agree with the prior poster's comments about the towels being thin and smelling funky. In the two years I was a member, towels and showering facilities went from luxurious to down-right low budget motel. Walls are banged up. Amenities like blow driers and soaps and even hand towels have become decrepit or non-existent. Seriously, I am afraid of even stepping foot into the sauna - one of the things I most used to enjoy about my visits – and one of the few things that warrants this club charging $139 for a membership (considering there are no swimming facilities).

My gym requirements are relatively modest - working treadmills, a few stationary weights, and someplace clean to lock up my stuff. Most if not all times I visited the club (roughly 4x a week) 25 to 45% of treadmills would be inoperable - I mean wouldn't move, wouldn’t turn on! - and would remain so for at a minimum a week to 10 days. This does not include treadmills with TV's in them which simply didn't tune in a channel - because that was practically 55% of them.

I finally quit this gym because I could run outside and not be impeded by waiting for a working treadmill or repulsion of skanky towels and floors.

I just joined Club H and am very impressed. The classes are great, locker rooms are beautiful and always clean. I'm glad I made the switch! A friend of mine told me that buywithmeNYC is offering a one month membership here for just $49 and one free session with a personal trainer. Check it out here: htt://bit.ly/aidqlA

Going downhill fast

by artfarris

I was psyched to join this fab gym and get in shape. However, in the 2 years I've been there, the staff turnover is nearly 100%, the manager is never there-- sometimes there are only 2 people working, the locker room is never staffed, the towels are thin and smell unclean and the steam room floor looks like they slaughter cows in there after hours. Minor repairs needed to equipment and the workout floor, i.e. a broken railing, take weeks or even months to fix. Complaints are generally ignored. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone.

  • Pros: Lot of gay clientele, close to home
  • Cons: Dirty, poorly managed, repairs neglected

Dishonest Business Practices

KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY TRAINING SESSIONS YOU USE!

I was a member at Club H, and I thought the gym was fantastic at first. I met with a trainer for about eight months, and it was going very well. I purchased a training package that would last me for the rest of the time that I was living in NYC. About two months before I moved away, my trainer started asking me if I knew how many sessions I had left. I wasn't keeping a running total of how many I had used, but I knew that they should last me for a few more months. A few sessions later, after him still suggesting I ask at the front desk, I did that. They told me that I was out of sessions.

I went home and tallied up how many sessions I had used, and figured I should still have 15 left. I tried to meet with my fitness advisor, but she was hard to get in touch with. So I emailed her. She responded by saying that it was her last day, and forwarded my email to the trainer, the training manager, and another fitness advisor (I think she was a fitness advisor).

I contacted the new fitness advisor, and she gave me a printout of the sessions that were logged. The trainer had been logging several sessions on some days, as well as sessions on dates that I was away on vacation. She told me that they could credit some of the sessions back, but that they had to talk to the trainer about how many were actually used. I asked if I could get a refund because I didn't want to do training with that trainer anymore. He was trying to cheat me out of 11 sessions. The other 4 were a computer error, supposedly.

She said that they wouldn't give a refund, so I asked to speak with the manager. The training manager came to meet with me. I explained the situation and explained that I didn't want to meet with a trainer for the sessions because I was moving and would only have about two weeks left in the city. She said that if I was moving they could refund the sessions and it wouldn't be a problem.

She got the training notes from the trainer. He lied about sessions that we had done. He claimed that we had done sessions while I was in Boston and in Maine. I showed travel confirmations to the manager so she could see that I was out of town. He claimed that I cancelled sessions while I was in California on a month long trip. I showed her the confirmation for that, as well as emails between the trainer and me.

She credited the sessions back to my account and told me they would refund my account when I showed proof that I had moved. I went back to NYC to cancel my membership after I had moved, and I emailed her that day to let her know that it should be all set to refund the money. I heard nothing back. A month later, I emailed again, and I got a response from the corporate office saying that they would not refund the money.

I emailed her all the correspondence between the manager and I, and explained that it was not just that I was moving. She contacted the manager, and then refunded me for 8 of the 14 sessions. I asked about the rest of the money, and still have not heard back.

So, after almost three months of correspondence with the gym, I have only received a portion of what they owe me. And, after all of this madness, THE TRAINER STILL WORKS AT THE GYM.

I have been trying to find out how to pursue legal action against the trainer. If anyone has advice about this, let me know.

  • Pros: clean, nice equipment
  • Cons: dishonest, poor customer service

The gym was very clean which is a huge deal to me i like my gyms to be clean. After work it can be a little busy but its not to bad. Other than that its a great place to work out plenty of good machines in good shape.

  • Pros: very clean
