My friends invited me to meet them for a meal here and I really enjoyed myself. The menu was diverse including unique meat, seafood & chicken dishes. I actually opted for a burger which was fantastic. The ambiance was very good as was the service. Oh yeah, nice beer list.
Pros: Menu diversity, Beer list, Service

I absolutely love the setting and service but I have yet to have a good meal. I keep going back hoping that it was just a bad night but 3 out of 3 times my entrees was so oversalted that I couldn't eat it (Steak frites, veal stroganoff and fish and chips). I really liked the grilled scallops and once had the paella but found the seafood to be cooked right but the rice to be undercooked (still hard). On my 1st visit they noted that I was displeased with my dish and offered to replace it but I wasn't hungry anymore. Since the service was so great on my 1st visit and everyone raves about this place, I chalked it up to a bad night but I haven't had a good meal yet. I really want to like this place because I've always had a great time aside from the food.
Pros: Setting - intimate for dates or small groups, great service and wine
Cons: Oversalted food

I live in the neighborhood and love casual dining. But I've been in the biz for years and understand what you should receive for your money. For $150, two of us sat down to split 3 apps, and the lamb steak and 4 glasses of wine. Reasonable, but for the bill we could have picked haunts that are a little more classic. To cut to the chase, the place was dead (9:00 on a Thursday) and the waitress could care less. The first 3 plates came all at once, then we waited for almost 40 minutes for a mid-rare steak. No one checked on us, but the bus boys hovered to collect the plates (they needed something to do). Thirsty and hungry, a previous employee sits next to us and screams 50 feet into the open kitchen. Lots of convo with our waitress while our food was waiting. No one else working there seemed to notice. It's all in the details. For the money, there are 15 other places I would rather go where the service is better, atmosphere matches and food is better prepared. To give credit, the lamb steak was delicious, but I was so over the experience, it cancelled all redeeming qualities of the meal. Been an east villager for 6 years, but it seems the better scores are still in the West Village for this type of dining.
Pros: Good atmosphere, great host
Cons: Common food, negligent service

Went here a few weeks ago, walked in and was seated immediately. Good variety of European influenced dishes. My recollections of the pork special were that it was mouthwateringly juicy and outstanding. Service was good and nothing less than desired. My only pickle with the place was its level of noise, it was very, very loud; one almost had to shout to be heard. Popular and crowded late at night, good atmosphere if you like that scene.
Pros: Drink menu, beers
Cons: loud

Went with a large group and had a good time on a Saturday afternoon. The space is nice and less crowded than your typical E Vill restaurant. The food was good and they had a great beer selection.

I really liked The E.U.. mostly because the food selection was not the same old, same old you find everywhere else. Check out their menu at their website and you'll see. Also, they had a really nice beer selection which is always a plus. It was crwoded the night we went but it had a great vibe to it. The service was good as well. All in all, a very good time and it reminded me of one of the European restaurants while I was on a recent trip
Pros: Eclectic Food selection, Beer Choices, Service

We live in the neighborhood and finally decided to take a trip over here tonight. The service was great - the host, our waitress, and the runners were all very amiable. For appetizers we began with the tapas of fried bacalao and the jamon iberico which were delicious. The bacalao was dense, meaty and creamy. It was $8 for two tiny fritters but it was very tasty so we didn't mind. For the main course we ordered the Steak Onglet and the Porcetto (suckling pig). It took quite a while for our entrees to arrive and when they got there the food was COLD. And really, I am just not okay with that. The flavors were sort of there but the meals were just terribly executed. A suckling pig cooked the right way should have golden crisp skin, super moist and tender meat after having been basted in that layer of fat lies beneath the skin. The meat was on the dry side, the skin almost glowing fluorescent in its unappetizing pallor and all you got was chewy - cold chewy skin, cold chewy meat, and cold chewy fat. Then to top it all off as I finished my last bit of wine I choked on about a 1/2 Tbsp. of sediment that was lying at the bottom of the glass. I gave it a shot but it The E.U. just didn't do it for me. It seemed promising but maybe I came on an off night. I hope your experience is a lot better than mine.

I turned up at The EU last night with 3 guests from out of town, having made a reservation a week ago. When I checked in with the host/maitre'd they informed my they'd tried to call and having received no answer, just cancelled my reservation. I had no call, no voicemail message and having booked through OpenTable, no cancellation notice. (To add insult to injury, I just got a 'no-show' notice from OpenTable). The English guy seating people told me it would be about half and hour wait for a table - there was no room to wait at the bar and several other customers were becoming annoyed at having to wait over 30 minutes for their (reserved) tables. Overall, he couldn't care less that we were inconvenienced. Couldn't tell you what the food was like! Don't need that kind of attitude from any idiot restaurant in NYC.
Pros: None
Cons: Attitude, Service, whole experience

I went here with one of my best friends on a weekday night and was very pleased with my decision. The service was amazing, we had barely finished ou flight of beer before our entrees arrived and our waitress was always nearby to help us when needed. The beer and food selection is great, as the restaurant offers a variety of tapas with various European flavorings. My friend had the hake and I had the short ribs, both I highly recommend. Overall, a very warm and comfortable place with a variety of tapas and entrees for everyone, great beer selection, and fast and friendly service.
Pros: Great selection of beer and tapas
Cons: None. Bring your wallet is a stupid cliche. Its New York. Deal with the prices if you want good food

the food was really inventive and excellent. a little pricy, but it's worth it. the waitress and bartender were great, but the hosts sucked. we got there a early for our 9:30pm friday night reservation, and though there were open tables, they asked us to wait at the bar. i checked in again a few minutes before 9:30, and had to wait for one of the hosts to come out of the kitchen to speak to me, though they clearly saw me standing there. then they said that they would come get us at the bar at 9:30, though there were still plenty of open tables. at 9:48, my fiance went over to them, and they finally sat us. the food made up for it, and i would go again, but next time i won't take any attitude from the hosts.
Pros: great food
Cons: rude hosts
