Another Luger Tribute Restaurant
by Josh Ozersky
This midtown steakhouse, like so many others around town, is a Peter Luger clone, right down to the sliced porterhouse.
Superb Dining Experience
by HardBopper
Went to Benjamin's for Thanksgiving. Opted for regular menu. Had shrimp and crabmeat cocktails which they served to be shared with my companion. She had ceasar salad. I had iceberg wedge with Russian dressing. Even the bread was top notch. Had Porterhouse for 3. My date likes to take home the extra for breakfast and lunch. Peas and onions was the vegetable. Desert was fresh berries which were fresh and excellent. Finished with decaf coffee and decaf cappuchino. Everything was perfect. Service was great. .
- Pros: Excellent Food, ambience, service. Easy on street parking.
- Cons: Wedge of lettuce was okay. But not quite what you'd get say at Wolfgang's.
Perfect Dinner
by chefvanessa
This was my second time at Benjamins. Its one of the best steakhouses in NY. Service is always excellent and the steaks are cooked to perfection to the way u want. First time I went there I had the Rib-Eye medium and was great second time i had "Steak for two" medium rare and was just perfect. I recommend the german potatoes for the side. They have a great wine list. And is worth every single dollar you spend. Thanks to Benjamin and Victor.
- Pros: perfect steak, great wine list, great service
- Cons: none

This was one of the better steakhouses I've been to in NY- hands down. We sat on the balcony for my girlfriend's birthday and it was very romantic. We had the porterhouse for two, which was perfectly charred, tender and just enough for both of us. After being told that the fireplace actually works, I can't wait to go back during the holidays! I've already recommended it to a few friends, and will continue doing so. Well worth every penny
- Pros: Great food, service and setting
- Cons: A little pricey, but worth it
Not So Great
by SydneyMadison
I love trying steakhouses. This one was a bit of a waste of time. The over cooked mid grade tuna came out after the tasteless baked clams. My freind had the steak. Said it was good, but small. The lamb was a bit of a surprise. It was the loin and also tasteless. Priced ok, but the desserts were VERY expensive.
Service was good.
- Cons: tight dining room
Fantastic Service and Great Steak
by c0deblue
Came here for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend and my brother. No wait. I was late and they still seated my party before I came in. Steak was DELICIOUS. Atmosphere was casual and friendly. Room was well-lit, which I love after getting a food coma from ingesting so much steak and red wine. Best part was that they remembered my note on the reservation to bring the dessert out with a candle for the birthday boys. A group of staff sang happy birthday and gave us a super strong complimentary cocktail to top off the meal. I have already recommended the restaurant to other steak lovers. I will come back again and again and again.
- Pros: Great and Quick Service, Delicious Steak, Tasty Desserts
The whole package !

Last night was my 2nd experience at Benjamin's, and it was even better than I remembered. So much so that I figured I would write a brief review. First off, let me just say that the ever looming question of "what's the best steakhouse in NY" will never be answered unanimously; there are too many variables to consider. That said, I've been to what's considered New York?s top steakhouses and Benjamin ranks right up there at the very top. For me, a steakhouse or any restaurant for that matter needs to deliver on ALL fronts, not just the steak. To those who hale Peter Lugers as the mecca of all steakhouses, I won't argue that they are serving some of the best steak around. However, when you factor in the entire experience, hence my ALL comment they come up way short. If sitting next to some tourist from Kansas, wearing a tank-top and jeans is your idea of a great night out, then I can understand the love of Lugers. Benjamin on the other hand serves steak that's as good as Lugers if not better. The porterhouse for 2 was cooked to perfection, it has a great crust and you can tell the meat has been aged, great flavor. The layout is fantastic (slip the hostess a 20 and ask for a corner table next to the fireplace) they know how to take care of people here, unlike the gruff service elsewhere. The bacon is a must; the sides are fantastic, as was desert. My only slight complaint would be their wine-list. It seems to cater to California and can be somewhat limited. It's more than adequate though and I'm sure their sommelier will be adding to it in the future, hint hint.
Overall, it's not cheap, but quality meals in NYC often aren't. However, those who appreciate the whole package will be hard pressed to find a better steakhouse in NYC.
- Pros: Steak, space, ..steak
Hands down
by NinoZerilli
Hands down...Benjamin Steak House is the best place for steak in New York City. The cuts are dry-aged and cooked to perfection and the service is impeccable. I felt like Sinatra in the dining room, which was very Old World. Look no further than Benjamin Steak House for fine cuts and finer service.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Nothing
Superb Steakhouse!
by dmerkin
One of my favorite steakhouses for a few reasons:
1. Incredible porterhouse, as good as Wolfgangs/Peter Luger
2. Great wine selection without emphasis on three-digit prices
3. Awesome host - Benjamin himself will often seat you, hang out with you, and he's a really nice guy
4. Much, much quieter than Wolfgang's and cozier setting.
I go back again and again.
