Closed - no longer open.

This restaurant is closed and has been for quite some time. So has the Casablanca Tea Room.......too bad though since I enjoyed the atmospheres at both restaurants and their food was delicious.

Cute place....but experience wes not exceptional

by meldaking

The restaurant has its highs and its lows. For starters on a Friday night I expected there to be more of a vibe and crowd....but it was quiet and pretty much empty. When I asked to be seated in a great table the waitress told me it was for four people. Although there were only three other tables filled up at the restaurant she said "you never know when four people will want to come in and eat". To her disappointment that never happened. In fact the table stayed empty the whole night. Anyway after about 20 minutes of being seated in various spots that were either in the VERY HOT upstairs dining room or a table by the elevator....I finally wrangled myself into the little tent area where the ambiance was allot better. However I will say that my guest was over 6 ft tall and had a hard time on the low seats. Anyway, the service was good and so was the food. The drinks were not that great, but were VERY strong. The plus is that they were only $5! Overall it was a lack luster evening that I could do without. Most likely they will not be seeing me again. Not sure if I would reccomend especially for the quality compared to the high prices.

I went to Babouche sunday night and had the best time. I went with my date and had no reservation. We were seated right away and i was in awe of the atmoshphere. Since we've never had this type of food befor our watier (Matt) led us though the menu of some of the best and or traditional dishes, and we were wowed!!

This French Moroccan restaurant will give your night the touch of flavor your looking for!

A great place to take a date, great place if you wanna try diverse fushion cuizine, and great place during the week to sit a relax and expirience great service. From the very helpful staff and waiters to the the mint tea and rose water expirience you will love this place and want to go back....

BEST Place in Soho!!!! Hands Down!

by tjacye

I have been a repeat customer at Babouche many times and out of all the restaurants I frequent in Soho, it is by far the best place to go for food, ambience and service! Every time I dine there, I am never disappointed with the food, and you just cannot beat the atmosphere. Even in the heart of Soho, there is absolutely no attitude at all from the people who work there; unlike many restaurants in the area, you can dine there and feel welcome, at home and very well taken care of!

The restaurant has only been open for few months, but I have been there many times and love it and am compelled to write a rebuttal to other reviews. In fact, I was witness to a great example of the hospitality and accomodating nature of the staff at Babouche. I was a customer last night, sitting near the front of the house when a group of four entered and started a commotion. It seemed like they had a reservation and overhearing the conversation going on between them and the manager or owner, the group had apparently shown up late. WHO SHOWS UP LATE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT IN SOHO FOR A RESERVATION?! Hello!!! They were giving the staff a hard time, totally disrupting our meal, and the staff was going out of their way to work with them and find a solution that would work for everyone. I was very impressed by the way they handled the situation, and this is just one example of the warmth and accomodating nature of the staff at Babouche.

Not only that, but they always make me feel at home! They remember me when I go there and have even offered me mint tea and cookies on the house. In short, you cannot find such generosity and sincerity anywhere else in Soho!

LOVE IT!!

The Terrible Service (Manager) Ruined my 30th Birthday!

by tsedey

I reserved the lounge at this place to celelbrate my 30th birthday 3.5 weeks in advance. The week of my birthday, they called me to say that the manager that made my reservations didn't know what he was doing, and was fired. They said I had to garuntee a minnimum of $3000 for my dinner and that they could only do a prix fixe menu of $55- literally 3 days before my birthday, after I had invited 20 people and given them a complete different impression! This is wrong. Their compromise was to bring the minnimum garuntee to 1,000- but that was b.s. b/c if each person is forced to do a $55 prix fixe, the total would be the same, but they wouldn't budget on this point. plus, they were very snooty (even thought they were the ones in the wrong), like they were doing me a favor and very unorganized. it took me calling several times after i made my reservation to have a menu sent to me so i could pick some apps for my guests. each time i called for the menu, they had to make my reservation all over b/c they couldn't find it in their system!! in the end, i took my party to cedrillon (in the neighborhood) and had a great time.

WORST SERVICE/MANAGEMENT EVERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by jojo278

My friends and I found this place after shopping and we thought it looked cool, so we went in. The decor was so unique, it was like a movie set or something. The food was OK. The drinks were great, albeit pricey. BUT the service was about the worst I've had in NYC. The manager was CRAZY. She was incredibly RUDE, unwelcoming, and she acted like we were inconveniencing her by being there!! We spent a lot of money in there too - so we couldn't figure out what the hell her problem was. We literally thought she must have been high or something. We finished our dinner, went to Angelika theater. After the movie, we decided to go back for few drinks. The door was closed but people were still inside. The WACKO manager came out saying "closed for staff party". I've read the other reviews on here and they all say the same thing - everything about the place is great except the service and management. That's too bad, because it's a place I'd like to frequent.

Simply...Great.

by emtekd

We (a group of 6) decided to check this newer SOHO place out on a recommendation from a friend. Babouche didn't disappoint . The decor was spectacular and the low chairs/couches filled with pillows were surprisingly comfortable. The staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly (not to mention plentiful). The one thing that exceeded all the rest, however, was the food. We opted to start with several appetizers and share them. The tuna tartar was our collective favorite, but the hummus ranks among the best I've had. The cigares de crevette were very good and the salad with octopus (which was VERY tender) pleasantly surprised those who hadn't had octopus before. We ordered the Pastilla au poulet as an app - the cinnamon and sweet flavor probably ranked as our group's second favorite.

We decided to share the entrees as well and ordered a variety for the table. Ordinarily, I'd save the best for last, but the lamb shank was so good it deserves to be front and center. The lamb melted in your mouth with a rich flavor that harmonized well with the spices in the sauce. Also worthy as a favorite was the Couscous Royale. The couscous was light, fluffy and flavorful - and the meat and vegetables were equally good.

We didn't have much room for dessert, but the goat cheesecake was unique twist to an old favorite and the rich chocolate brownies were very popular with the ladies. I highly recommend the moroccan mint tea. It is light, sweet, minty and a refreshing way to end a great meal. The rose water splash for your hands is also a refreshing way to end the evening.

We highly recommend arriving early or on time for your reservation - as this place is becoming very popular and fills quickly. It is spacious enough not to feel cramped though. This is one place you can feel confident about recommending to anyone who can appreciate different cultures and cuisines. Book reservations early though because there is about a week lead time.

Hottest moroccan get away in NYC

by ninasky

i have just finished reading the reviews for this restaurant and decided to visit this place. i took a few friends with me and we were aw'ed by the decor. it was beautiful. the hostess was friendly and quickly showed us to our seats. we decided to go upstairs and look down onto soho while we ate.our waiter was pleasant and eager answer our questions.which we had plenty of since we didnt really know to much about moroccan cuisine. we decided to order couscous ,tagines and mediterrean salads...the found was incredible...although at times it did get loud and hectic it was a fun place to eat in. the staff was friendly , the decor was out of this world ...great place for the weekends...or a first date...or a group of friends to meet up and have a good time like we did...i totally recommend this place if ur looking for a good tiime with ur food
