In This Economy Are You Kidding???

by jake

If you are into a wine list with most bottles over $1000.00, thats right over a grand good luck. If you want to wait until you order for the server to just bring some bread , good luck. If you want to just sit and relax and have some apps then decide upon your entree, good luck. You have to order everything all at once, otherwise the chef will not oblige, and until you order everything you are not allowed bread or water. OH! and if you do not order bottled water forget any kind of decent service.

IN THIS ECONOMY ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Pros: Tough to Find a Pro In Here

it is what it is

by speakyourmind

this is what you make it, good food and atmosphere, wouldnt bother coming for a drink, far too expensive and they dont carry most things, but the food is different gravy, never had any trouble with tables, superb place.

mac and cheese overrated

  • Pros: tuna tar tar
  • Cons: bar far too small and unfriendly

Don't listen to the negative reviews.

by jonlikesit

This is a really great hotel and one of my favorites in town. Of course the negative reviews are probably those of somebody that couldn't get a table and definitely not a hotel reservation even if they paid for it! This place is definitely all about the see and be seen. It's unlike any other place for a reason. You get what you pay for.

  • Pros: Best hotel.
  • Cons: None.

$5 for the mac n cheese $50 for the atmosphere

by winendine25

My friend and I went to Waverly Inn last night. We were walk-ins but did not wait too long for a table.. approximately 10 minutes. We were seated in the very back room, which was a bit out of the main dining room but still not awful. The portions, while small, are not horrible but are far from delicious. We opted to split the mac n cheese with the black truffles which was good but not quite worth the exorbitant price. The mousse we had for dessert was very good.. All the food came out very quick, which made it difficult to linger at the table and take in the atmosphere and of course do the occasional celebrity search. Overall, we enjoyed the experience?isn't that what we all go there for anyway?

  • Pros: People watching, ambiance
  • Cons: average food

Up his own behind bartender

by swampbex

My boyfriend and I called in here on New Year's Eve for a drink on our way to dinner elsewhere. I have to say, this place is totally phoney - it pretends to be English and 'exclusive' but honestly, take it from me - someone who actually *lives* in England - English people would never ever be as rude as the bartender in that place! We paid an eye-watering amount for two disgusting glasses of wine which the bartender practically threw at us in his distaste at having to serve two non-New York, non-social climbers. A lovely place which is totally spoilt by its nasty, rude staff. Avoid it! Try Freeman's on Freeman's Alley (LES) for somewhere with a similar atmosphere but with friendly and welcoming staff and wonderful food.

good first impression...wound up awful

by hezbot

my husband and i went to the waverly this past saturday night . we have both been in the restaurant business for 15 years plus. we were warmly greeted at the door and were told to have a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. the bartender was gracious and quick an the cocktails were delicious. the bar area got a bit crowded with icky high maintenance chicks and dudes, but hey. we were led to our table a half hour later...all the way in the very back against a door with a serious draft. OK...someone has to sit there i suppose. everything went downhill from here. not sure if we were written off for ordering a $115 bottle of wine (the list was crazy expensive)....but we ordered and then i hear our server telling the table behind me the specials. oh, i should mention we were not told the specials, and i would have totally ordered some of them. we were essentially ignored for the remainder of the evening and THE FOOD IS NOT GOOD. the country salad was overdressed, the tuna tartar was like boring wet cat food. my berkshire pork chop was totally overcooked. i just wanted outta there and didn't have dessert (and i NEVER don't order dessert)....suppose it's still a celebrity hangout (keifer sutherland was there that night)....but what started as a potentially great dinner ended up awful. don't bother. go to the spotted pig. the food is better, drinks are cheaper and you could still maybe see beyonce here as well. the waverly is ALL HYPE.

Rude Bartender

by mylila

My husband and I went to the Waverly on a Saturday early evening and I BEGGED him to stop in for a drink...WHAT A MISTAKE!! I was sooo excited to get in and sit at the bar. The drinks I have to say were really good..the bartender was ok UNTIL he decided to kick us out of our seats at the bar so a couple of young girls could sit down...not asking just my husband to give up his seat but literally told us to "get up" so these two girls could sit down..we had not been there long, and we were spending GOOD money..I asked for our bill which he threw at me and I have to say even the two girls were shocked and did not want us to give up our seats..the bartender went on to tell them that we were from Chicago and just visiting so we needed to leave..actually, we visit NYC frequently as we were living in CT at the time...I took the bill, paid with my American Black Card and left and will NEVER GO BACK!!!! We are business owners and would IMMEDIATELY dismiss an employee who treated a patron like this. There are too many GREAT places to eat or just hang out in NYC...this place STUFFY, PRETENGIOUS, OVERPRICED AND YES, THE BARTENDER WAS A CHUBBY, RUDE, OBNOXIOUS WANT A BE..also looked like he hadn't showered in quite a while too. What a worthless, waste of our time and money!!

OK

by TJ7

I am a very rare poster but I had to comment on the girl in her late twenties that has had 15 years "experience" as a restaurant goer. That provided cocktail party fodder for me for at least a year, thank you.

As far as the review goes, perhaps you and your gal pals expected more than a drink for your dime; I found the place exactly as expected given it's origins..
