Rita is amazing
by badhairdays
Rita saved my hair. I went to two salons near my office that I'd never been to before and had two terrible highlight jobs in one week. (The second was supposed fix it but only made it worse). I went to Rita for a color correction for my over -bleached, blotchy hair. She was very sweet and made it all better. My hair looks great and feels great too. She is worth the money. Now I just need to find someone I like to cut my hair....
- Pros: Rita's coloring skills; Nice boy who answers the phone
- Cons: none
Rita is Awesome
by npel09
I have been seeing Rita since her last location. All I have to say is that she is always accommodating and willing to fit you into her schedule. The quality of the work is excellent. I've had color done at several high end salons and no place comes romotely close to Rita's. Her demeanor is professional. She communicates and works with you on the desired look. She's very suggestive and knows exactly what will work with your skin tone, hair, lifestyle.
Of course it is expensive (but not for the quality) but you don't need to be in her chair every month. She looks at the integrity of your hair and will not perform a service if your hair is damaged but will recommend a treatment, shampoo, conditioner, etc. until your hair is in ready condition to receive color.
Although she is one of the most in demand colorists, she definitely does not carry the attitude. She's serious about her work and wants to give you her best attention. Therefore, some reviews may perceive her personality as being rude, but far from it. :)
If you want a customized look, look no further.
- Pros: Excellent service, Beautiful/Natural Color/Highlights
- Cons: Pricey but worth every penny
Life savers!!!
by Carla03
These guys are last minute life savers! I'm from New Mexico and was in New York City for the most important interview of my life!!! My hair had been fired by to many coloring and flat ironing and all that stuff and it NEEDED to look good. I wanted extensions and to look like the girls from the hills. (Ya know, thick curls, tons of hair... etc) In under 2 hours, my hair went from short and fried to down my back long amazing curls!!! I also got a spray tan while I was there and it looked awesome not orange! I was amazed that they could do everything I wanted in such short notice. I wish I had before and after pictures it was a true makeover! Thank you guys soooooooo much! Life savers! xx
- Pros: Friendly phone people, Friendly and calming staff!
- Cons: NONE!!!
WTF????
by nycgal420
I thought citysearch was to help people make educated decisions about where to go.
It seems that there are very few helpful reviews for the Rita Hazan Salon (who really cares what Rita wears to work???) and that this is a place for some disgruntled ex employee to be nasty.
I just an appointment to see for myself. They were very helpful and kind on the phone, I'll keep you posted.
WORST SALON EVER
by inezbk
horrible service, Rita is the worst colorist ever! she does the same thing on every highlight client! she charges a ridiculous amount for ordinary color. never will i go back. had to wait so that Rita could get her hair and makeup done. she was wearing a baggy gym sweater with jeans that showed the stretch marks on her behind and nike tennis shoes. so unprofessional. she's also very rude to her staff. i don't see how this salon is going to last much longer-
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: RITA, salon, staff, pressure to buy products, stuffy atmosphere, and EVERYTHING ELSE
Best Salon in the City! Young, hip and chic!
by BeauSky
This is my all time favorite salon in the city. Being in the fashion industry I need to make sure I look my best at all times so a good salon is a necessary splurge. Some of the other high-end salons I've tried were kind of stuffy and uptight. (Which I'm sure some people like) However, I prefer the laid-back almost party-like atmosphere at this salon. I pay money for the fashion forward expertise, not the white glove attitude. I love that everyone in the salon is around my age. It makes it more fun because I feel they can relate to me more and I trust that my look will be kept modern.
My personal favs! are John for Color (he's the only one that can do my red right!!) and Josh for my cut and blowout. Go to Natasha for manicures, I've NEVER had a mani last this long. <3!
- Pros: fun Music, fun staff, fun fun fun <3!
- Cons: Maybe not for older customers??
I'm a fan forever.....
by barbiebrains
I recently had a baby and I loved what Rita did to J Lo's hair after she had hers so I begged my husband to let me go! Here is what I think, and I never go to NYC salons.
When i called to book the appointment I spoke to an absolutely lovely person who was super helpful. I explained that I could not afford Rita, so he took the time to talk me through it & made a referral. i think his name was Stass, super nice!!
i came in for my appointment & I was floored!! You expect NYC salons to be super pretentious and sterile but this was not the case. The front desk were smiling and acknowledged me right away. The manager Erin, was super sweet and offered a mimosa, which I thought was so cool!
I have to admit, once I was walked back I was a little intimidated for a second. It was a very busy saturday and Madonna was bumping. I felt like I was at a night club. Everyone around seemed so cool to me, being a new mom from the midwest it was pretty cool
I saw Adrian for color he made me feel totally at ease and really listened to what I wanted. He took the time to ask questions like how often will you be able to maintain this, do you wear your hair up alot, etc. He was so professional and genuinely interested in making me not only look my best, but in making it work for me. I still love the color.
After color was finished Adrian's assistant brought me over to Ryan for a blowdry. He was very funny and sweet. My blowdry lasted for a few days. All in all, it was not what i expected! Even just looking around the salon, the level of expertise is astounding. There is a totally cool NYC vibe and instead of making you feel like an outsider, they welcome you right in. Definitely see Adrian and Ryan! I absolutely love the Rita Hazan Salon and will be fan forever (even if my husband doesn't let me come back) :)
- Pros: Their staff! Adrian & Ryan!
- Cons: None
DON"T BUY INTO THE HYPE
by hungryhitter
Do NOT recomend this salon AT ALL! I am very picky about my color and blonde is hard to maintain. I tried one of the stylist and he had no idea what he was doing. I brought it to his attention that the result was NOTHING like I explained or showed in a pic. He agreed and did it again. This time he BURNT my hair in the front and pieces broke off. I could sense something was wrong and they were covering it by ignoring the problem. I then went back to the head colorist and they put on a color which lasted 3 weeks and they said just keep coming back!!! Once again a nightmare experience in the city....
Sincereley Frustrated
4hrs for cute cut, bad service, dirty combs and bloody fingers!
by CuteCut
DON'T BOTHER... I went for a "training session" and he hair cut took over 4 hours to complete. The comb that they were using on my head was dropped on the floor over 3+ times by both instructor/assistant WITHOUT being sanitized, and was also SHARED between me and the other hair model. He also was very disrespectful by storing his scissors in his jean pocket while he worked between models.
After about 3 hours the instructor realized how long it was taking and stepped in to finish the cut. He seemed a bit hurried and panicked to finish leading to the instructor accidentally CUT himself with his scissors. I almost died seeing that he did NOT wash his hands and was going to continue to work on my hair which is not only dangerous, disgusting, but also unlawful... I offered him one of my own Band-Aids.
They boast that styling classes are "overseen by the best in the industry, allow for the full, luxurious salon experience without the price tag" and I feel that I was completely undervalued as potential client.
- Pros: Cute cut
- Cons: sub-par treatment
