I absolutely hate the vibe of this salon but I trust Rita to hire professional colorists so I just deal with the scene. The price is moderate for single process color ($85 is cheapest) in Manhattan but that's without a blow-dry. Which, by the way I think is the biggest rip!! Why wouldn't you want to style your client and make them feel beautiful (and also check to see that the color looks right)? All that aside, the staff is friendly enough, in an "LA, I don't really care how you are but asking to be polite" kind of way. There is definitely cheaper salons out there but this salon uses really good product (shampoo and color) and the sceneyness of it keeps them on their toes for what's happening in the hair trend world.
Pros: Rita is a tough boss and watches everything
Cons: uncomfortable wash stations, blow-dry is additional cost, stylist will keep you waiting, pressure to buy products

I love and adore Carrie & Haruo! Carrie was away and I saw Rita for my single. You are right about having to wait, which I figured would happen. You are right about the way she speaks to her staff. It made me cringe. I know for sure, i am going to stick with Carrie! it was torture when rita called one girl to come on the floor to scream at her in front of everyone about the music. it made me feel even worse because i was really into the song! She said something like if you think this is a good song then you are retarded. it was only a janet jackson song or something. I always think the music is great, but I guess she always hates it. i like the salon, but probably wouldn't see rita again.

Hi, For awhile the only person I saw here was Arsi for my waxing. I had read about her in Allure. She is a lovely person and very thorough. No frills and no pressure to buy products is what I love! Also, never an ingrown hair!! I needed to go to my friends wedding and I normally have other services at other salons. they were kind enough to squeeze me in last minute for a style, makeup application and mani. The stylist available was Eddie who I couldn't understand a great deal, but was very nice. He did a great blowdry with great loose curls. It was so hot out that day so he pinned it into an awesome messy up do. I liked it, it was not too contrived or over done which is my style. I will definitely consider seeing him again for a cut. Next I saw Natasha for nails. She was a little quiet but it has been 6 days and my manicure still looks new! I liked how she also picked out a color for me. Normally I go to the place below my apartment for a mani and pedi for the price of her manicure but it was definitely the best manicure i have had in awhile! Finally, the icing on the cake, was my makeup by Jordi. I have never felt so beautiful in my life! My eyes were amazing and my skin looked flawless. All in all, I was impressed by the workmanship and quality. I didn't get any attitude. I thought the front desk was really nice. The only person I noticed an attitude from was the coat check girl. She was on her phone and looked bothered, but with all due respect, that will not deter me from going back again!
Pros: Jordy, Arsi, Natsha and Eddie
Cons: Haven't really noticed any yet but the AC can be pretty cold so bring a sweater

Ive never written a review, bad or good about any business but had to comment on my experience at the Rita Hazan "salon". I have been going to same colorist at Oscar Blandi but she recently went on maturnity leave and I was recommended to go to Rita. First off Rita was 30 minutes late. That would have been acceptable if she was busy and backed up. Not acceptable when she is getting her hair curled and just talking away. The ironic thing about that was I overheard her complaining about someone being 15 minutes to see her. Talk about glass houses! The color is okay but definitely nothing earth shaking...the highlights seem a little too chunky, and some of them dripped onto non-highlighted hair. BUT even if the color was amazing I would never return because of her attitude. I dont think I have met a more self absorbed colorist before!!!! Its haircolor- not surgery! She seemed very busy so I guess her personality (or the lack thereof) seems to be a non-issue to most. But if you want great color from a personable colorist go to someone else or another salon. If this salon is about decent color then they are spot on. Great color and fantastic customer service? completely lacking.
Pros: Location
Cons: promtness, results, attitude.

Badbetty's review is on point. I also saw Rita getting makeup while clients were waiting. I am posting because I searched online for reviews to let women know the scam that is Rita Hazan Salon. Badgirl posted that the staff lists posts here and she is right. When I was there one day, they were on this site looking at reviews and posting them. The last post about Jennifer Lopez is just a bold lie by an employee. Ms. Lopez hasn't been a client of Rita's since she was at her 65th St location. There is never a celebrity sighting since they moved from the townhouse to the tourist trap on 56th St. All of the regular clients are gone and so are the celebrities they claim to work with(except Jessica Simpson who is barely a celebrity). Their staff is arrogant and rude. I would sit with a stylist and they would talk about other stylists work under their breath saying the work came out tacky, unfinished, and more. They also make you wait to be seen sometimes even if they don't have a client, just to make you wait. I had good color by Rita but there are many other colorists available. In regards to the pricing, I am ok with it since it is comprable for other experienced colorists in Manhattan, if price was your complaint, you should have never went. I have moved on!
Pros: ok color
Cons: service, attitude

I never really write reviews, but I was compelled to today. I don't see Rita, so this is coming from a completely different perspective. Who in their right mind finds a celebrity colorist from a magazine or TV show, then books an appointment with them without asking the price and then complains that the person was too busy, or doing their makeup or that they charged too much or they only cared about the celeb that was there????? When I first called the salon I never even asked to see Rita! I asked for their recomendation. That's like going to Gucci and complaing that you can buy the same wallet at Target for $5. Your paying for status, for a label when you see someone like Rita. Of course she is going to be expensive! I mean come on, If you can't afford her, don't see her. I go to the salon and see Carrie for color. She is young, fresh, and is very talented. Her pricing is reasonable for the city and her work is consistent. I also have seen Sean James and Haruo who are each amazing. Really friendly, personable and both have done a consistent job whether it is a cut or style. Also Arsi has done waxing once and I swear that woman does not have a bad bone in her body. I encourage people to think before they decide to see someone. Don't just trash their name because you weren't happy, go to someone that will make you happy! I personally love Carrie, Sean, Haruo and Arsi. I love to watch the celebrities (I was there when Jennifer Lopez was! Very exciting) I love the action. I love the front desk, they are so nice and hysterical!
Pros: Carrie, Haruo, Sean James and Arsi
Cons: None

I'm a freelance makeup artist who works out of the Rita Hazan Salon. I was hurt by BadBettie's review. I know . when Rita is quiet, she is thinking about correcting hair color. Quiet can seem to be unfriendly. Color correction is a difficult process and she is only trying to give that her full attention. I also do Rita's makeup quit often. We have fun at the salon and try to inspire the clients. I might be the guilty one who was doing the makeup. We both love makeup and hair color.it goes hand- in -hand . Sorry you had such a bad experience and I have taken your critisim to heart since I may have been involved.

I was a client of Rita's for three years and left recently. Why have I moved on? Their service is terrible and their pricing is inconsistent. Do not trust the super positive five star reviews, Anna and Josh posted them! I always liked the color Rita did until three months ago. She was more interested in having her makeup done while we waited, same as another reviewer said. The color was uneven and she had to fix it because the color was off even though she did the same color on me every month. There are always clients who get the color redone when the drying starts because it wasn't what they wanted. Rita is capable of being a great colorist but because of her arrogance, she insists she is right about what looks best on someone even though it turned out like garbage. I have seen them compliment someone over and over even though it looked horrible, she then went to pay and the receptionist asked if she had an appointment, it looked that bad. They don't care about having a regular client base, they thrive off selling to tourists that saw her on Oprah and through PR about Jessica Simpson. Visitors to NY, be careful, they will sell you on every service because they know they can. They also raise prices when they choose, if you go there, make sure you remember what you paid before. Their stylists are amaturish and will drop celebrity names to make their work seem better than it is. Do not waste your money on hype and fake reviews. Also, to the long time client who reviewed below, Joaquin hasn't worked there for almost a year so why are you even mentioning him? He was one of their worst stylists and only wanted to do celebrity hair.
Pros: none
Cons: waste of money

This was a catastrophe in every aspect. Rita isn't friendly at all, I had to sit and wait with other clients while she got her make-up done, and after waiting she wasn't apolagetic at all. She doesn't seem to care about you if you are not an "important person" and she yells at her her staff and talks to them very condescendingly. I was shocked and appalled! The color looked good but nothing spectactular...never again!
Pros: Atmosphere
Cons: Rita Hazan

So I was surprised to not see Carrie or Eddie mentioned at all in the reviews! If you have a problem with Rita but want her talent, see Carrie. Carrie was trained by Rita and does an amazing job! She is very down to earth and sweet. At Carrie's suggestion I tried Eddie for a cut. He is kind of quiet but I really liked him and his assistant Mune! I liked how he has more of a downtown vibe. I hate hair that is too over done so I was pleasnatly surprised! If you want quality, without having to worry about attitudes, they are your best bet!
Pros: Great color, great cut, great music! (I felt like I was at a party! Everyone was having such a great time!)
Cons: The AC was a little too cold!
