My wife and I have some experience both in the US and Europe with trendy, high-end restaurants. Gordon Ramsay's New York restaurant is excellent and rates with the very best we have dined at. The food was inventive, very well presented and prepared perfectly. We sat for lunch and each tried a different fixed menu, this past week (December 24, 2006). Both the fixed four and six course menu's featured a variety of dishes and covered seafood, vegetables, meat and desert. Out of ten dishes, there were two that were merely good, the rest were excellent and enough to guarantee my return. The staff was efficient and very professional, save for one server not setting plates from the correct side. Once we had engaged the staff in conversation they all turned out to be friendly and conversation with them made our lunch even nicer. We were very happy with the service and they met the high expectations we had set for a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The sommelier's recomendations were excellent and we were particularly impressed that the suggested wines, which were perfect for our tastes and food, were not the most expensive. One particularly great Pinot Noir was actually one of the cheapest glasses on the wine list. I give high marks to a restaurant of this caliber and cost, when you give customers great advice without making them feel they need to spend. Overall, I cannot wait to return to dine there again. I highly recomend this restaurant and would encourage anyone who likes modern, gourmet food to visit. Since we are in America, I feel I should warn people that, as is usual with restaurants and chefs/menus at this level, that the portions are not big (I often see reviews with complaints about portion size) . The ingredients and preparation are top-notch however and that is what you should expect. Run, do not walk, to Gordon Ramsay at the London.
