Strongly Disagree

by sevenrivera

I have to disagree with Matt222. I have always been notoriously difficult to fit (short, thick neck, broad chest, narrow waist, uneven sloped shoulders and short t-rex arms) and I can't even attempt to get anything off the rack and tailored, even at the high end retailers. I have tried various custom tailors around the city to mixed results at best, but then some friends recommended Izzy and LS and I am completely sold. My suit looks amazing and fits perfectly after only the second fitting and the shirts are tremendous. And unlike some of the other shops I have tried, the turnaround time is remarkably fast.

I fully expect Izzy to fill the rest of my wardrobe this year.

Custom??

by Matt222

I wondered how these guys could make "made-to-measure" suits so cheaply, and I soon found out.

The suits are not made-to-measure. They have you try on pre-fabricated, standard-sized jackets and pants to figure out your size, then they sort of pretend to do some measuring, briefly. The suit is made in the pre-fab size with the fabric you chose. I'm certain that the only number that goes to the actual suitmaker is a one number size. Since the suit is made for you, technically, they somehow rationalize calling them "custom made." They are not custom made in the sense that designation is usually used in suitmaking.

The product, predictably, fits poorly and looks worse. Alterations after one more fitting didn't much help.

This place is a pain to get to and positively not worth it. Do not go.

New Yorks best custom suits

by ASASASAS

I have gone to a few places for a made to measure suit. Ls mens was by far the best. Quick (only went twice had my suit in less than 3 weeks), Helpful (Had a young women sit with me and help me choose the best material for my needs), fit was perfect (I have sloped shoulders and a bit of a hunched back so I am not the easiest fit and it looks great couldnt ask for a better fit). Once I saw how well the suits came out I ordered about 10 new shirts. What impressed me was that Izzy recommended I order one shirt first, see how I like it and then he would place the rest of my order, this way I was able to make sure it was perfect. The price of the shirts were cheaper than me going to a regular store and buying them off the rack and believe me they looked much nicer.

My .02

by Michael95

Having been an LS customer for a few years now, any issues that I've historically had with custom clothing have been corrected by Izzy even if he disagreed with my personal preferences.

I also recently tore one pair of pants that I purchased from LS a few years back and instead of just suggesting that I buy a new pair (which I was willing to do) he used the excess material to fix it at no charge.

In my opinion, the allure of the store is not the aesthetics of the shop, it is the quality of the product which is something I have never had a problem with. The only issue I have ever had were the 20-25 minutes wait to get Izzy's opinion based on his increased clientele and based on the fact that he treats the customers who spend $100 with the same dilligence as the ones who spend thousands.

Although I can't speak for everyone's experience I can attest to the fact that I'm not on Izzy's payroll. I'm just a loyal patron.

LS Men's Clothing: Outstanding

by TweedGuy

I have been an LS Men's Clothing customer for years, so I speak from experience. That experience has been overwhelmingly positive! I have bought several suits and sport jackets, and they all turned out great. I could not be more pleased with the service and final (made-to-measure) product.

I mentioned the suits and sport jackets. Well, I've also purchased made-to-measure shirts and custom-made trousers. Fantastic.

To the amazement of some, there are (still, after all these years) men who prefer the classic American ("Ivy League") style--natural shoulder, no darts, center (hooked) vent, lapped seams, etc. I can say without hesitation that LS Men's Clothing is the place to go if you continue to prefer this style. From the fabric selection to the tailors, the finished product is spot on.

Izzy pays close attention to requests, and has an eye for detail. It is no wonder that so many men remain devoted customers of LS Men's Clothing.

A five star rating from me because it is deserved.

Forget other tailors, I'm bespoken for

by David Lunzer

I have been an LS customer for more than 30 years, and for the last 25 years, a completely satisfied customer of their bespoke suits, blazers, overcoats, trousers, and shirts.

My sons are now customers for their "more pedestrian" off-the-rack choices (if you can call Hickey Freeman, H. Freeman, & Burberry pedestrian) and look forward to graduating to bespoke (in time).

Izzy Zuber continues to bend over backwards to satisfy my needs, which include an erratic travel schedule, and personal tastes which don't always conform to current fashion trends.

For those who take no pleasure from the shopping experience, LS is the antidote.

A typical phone call from me to Izzy goes something like this:

"I need a few pair of chinos, light weight gray slacks, a dark gay suit and a new tuxedo." (this was a most recent call a few weeks ago).

Izzy will then ask, "Have you had any recent weight changes?"

The answer this time was no, so we were able to proceed.

We then discuss colours (What shade of grey scale from 5-10) and how light (150s, 180s, ...)

Finally he'll ask by when I need it, or when am I planning to be in New York next.

That's it, and shirts are just as easy (which reminds me that I need to call him for some).

It doesn't get any better than this, except if he could clone himself and set up shop in LA as well.

  • Pros: Great service, value, fabrics, fit & compliments galore
  • Cons: I now live in LA so I must fly to NY for final measurements

Simply the Best

by Fisher76

I've been to a ton of tailors in Manhattan over the years. I didn't believe the hype at first (particularly based on the amount of overwhelming positive feedback he received on this site) and then I went to LS. This guy Izzy is excellent. I had sport coats, suits and shirts made there in the last few months. You will not get better pricing on any of the aforementioned products particularly for the quality of materials this guy has in house...Here is why he stands out...he spotted a smudge on one of my sport coats and wouldn't let me leave without getting it out. He talked me out of buying a more expensive suit because he was relucant about the quality of the material. He made alterations more than 4 times to get the fit that I was in search of. He was willing to talk to his vendors to drive down the cost if I liked a certain material that was outside of my price range. He is patient, knowledgeable, and opinionated (which is an attribute for a tailor). Trust me...Try this guy out...you will not be disappointed.

More Praise for LS

by DW5

I've lived in Manhattan for quite a few years and only wish I had found LS Men's Clothing earlier. They recently made a Hickey Freeman suit for me and I love it. LS is a quality place, with great prices and service. I know of no other place in NYC that equals it.

I went there because of the positive reviews I read and am happy now to add my own.

  • Pros: quality, price, service
  • Cons: none that I've seen

Amazing

by erika1952

My internet luck still holds: I found the VERY BEST (I’m convinced) place in New York City to buy my son a great suit for my upcoming wedding at a reasonable price.

LS Mens Clothing is on the 3rd floor of a nondescript office building on 45th St. Big open room with a concrete floor and racks and racks of suits, jackets and pants. It’s been there for many years, run by a funny, hugely knowledgeable guy named Izzy.

They carry both very nice hand-tailored off-the-rack suits, and custom-made suits and shirts. I had budgeted $700, and was doubtful I could get something good – even on sale – at Saks or Bloomie’s for that.

I got him two (count ‘em, TWO) suits at LS for $700, both just beautiful! One for the wedding, and one for him to have another nice suit to wear. My son was in heaven – he loved the place, the guy, the suits.

I plan on encouraging my fiance to go and get a wonderful custom-made suit for the wedding - their custom-tailored suits start at around $650, I'm told, which is just astonishing to me, given the quality.

All in all, an amazing find.

  • Pros: great quality, service, prices
  • Cons: none that I can see
