Amsterdam Billiards-Union Sq

I recently had a surprise bday party for my fiancé here and over all my guests and fiancé had a good time. The location is good and the atmosphere here is nice. However, being the one planning the party is a whole other story. The manager Greg Hunt was extremely unprofessional and not accommodating whatsoever. If I wasn't in crunch time to find a location I would have NEVER given him my business. His event coordinator Luciene was very pleasant. Dan (I believe was his name) at the front desk was also pretty unpleasant. You'd think spending over $1K (not including what we spent on alcoholic drinks) the staff would be a little nicer. The price of the tables was reasonable however the cost of food there was astronomical and the quality was TERRIBLE. I ordered mini-burger sliders, pizza, quesadillas and buffalo wings for a group of 25. The bread on the burgers was stale, the meat over cooked/dry, the pizza was dry with no flavor, the quesadillas were cold and the wings were boneless, not what I ordered.
The area they set up for our party was spacious and again overall my guests enjoyed themselves. If I had to rate purely on professionalism and quality of customer service I received, they'd get ZERO stars from me.
- Pros: Good Location - Spacious for a party
- Cons: Unprofessional Management, Staff - Terrible Food
prominent place for playing pool
by Sofie
Amsterdam is a superior pool hall with great service and selection. Even though there are over 25 pool tables, there are other fun things to do. They have pinball machines, darts, foosball and a newly added beer pong table. Amsterdam has a full bar with some pretty interesting drinks that include unique ingredients such as lemongrass, ginger, mint, guava, watermelon and lychee. Overall, great place to become a regular!
- Pros: great priced pool; free darts, beer pong and darts
Awesome drinks & Pool Pros!

Had a great time @ Amsterdam Billiards last week
...Jeanette 'Black Widow' Lee was hanging out on the front table as was the guy from 'GoodFellas' Paul Sorvino and the "I see dead people" kid from 'The Sixth Sense' movie playing ping pong in the back!
I usually only drink Beam bourbon but the new Watson cocktail was pretty damn tasty i must admit!
Nice setup of tables and seemingly always chock full 'o players...#1 player Mika Immonen is seen here frequently...maybe i'll play him next time...lol.
- Pros: Hott Bartenders and cocktail servers!
- Cons: none unless you're used to hustler dive bars...
Great place for lots of drinking and fun!

Great deals for pool. Lots to do: ping pong, pin ball, foosball table, darts, etc... Great bartenders, friendly waitresses. Overall great experience. Will definitely be back!
- Pros: Lots of entertainment. Lots of drinks. Lots of fun.
Killer hang-out
by Blondie11
The service used to be dissapointing here. The bartenders used to take my drink before I was finished and never seemed to be in a good mood. They've gotten new staff and now the service is awsome. There's lots of games to entertain yourself with while you wait for a table too. My personal fav. is the fusbol and darts. Did I happen to mention the bartenders are hot too!
- Pros: Friendly service
- Cons: No Draft specials
My Home Pool Hall
by robinmahfuz666
Love this Place. After the construction, it looks better. Always had a table available. Maximum wait time was 10 minutes in a busy night. Always waitress staff available. Waitress(es) never failed to smile. It's just 1 day I was forced to show ID when I wasn't going to drink. B/c they do allow guests under 21. But all other problems were fixed. Looking forward to have a ball. "The 8 all is mine".
- Pros: Great place Great Rate
- Cons: Showing ID @ entrance
Best D**n Pool Hall, Period
by SeaHorse138
Every time my friends and I go to Amsterdam Billiards (which is pretty often), they make us feel right at home. The staff are lovely, lively and engaging, and they know how to make good customers feel welcome. It's almost as much fun to watch their lineup of resident professional world-class pool players as it is to play on one of their many well-conditioned full-size tables. As a pool player, I would not consider going anywhere else in the city.
- Pros: Best pool players, upscale atmosphere, friendly environment
- Cons: Choice of background music
Best Tables in NYC!
by CHicks
Amsterdam has the best tables in the city, by far. This is why you can go there ans see some of the best players in the world. Their staff is always helpful and they have a great ambience. I have taken clients, gone with large groups for birthdays and on laidback nights out with my boyfriend. We always have a great time. They just started to a ladies night on Wednesday with 2-for-1 drinks. Can't beat it!
- Pros: Ladies night & $29 a table for the whole night
Overpriced and arrogant!!!!!
by banjogravy99
I played at their previous location and thought it was ok. Now it is extremely pricey and very poorly run unless you are one of their "favorites". i was playing by myself and had a person come up and tell me I had to get off the table without any previous warning. i then proceeded to check out and found out i was being charged for TWO people and was never told this!!!!! Unbelievable. I later found out that the person who kicked me off was the owner, Greg. I have taken my business elsewhere since and won't return. Also, the tables are not in that great of shape, need some t.l.c.
- Pros: good players
- Cons: bad management, prices
Sour Bartender Service
by Seya99
Amsterdam Billiards is a beautiful place, but the service is the worst I've ever encountered in NYC. The bartender was was rude & incompetent. Although there were only 6 people at the bar she was overwhelmed and very hissy towards us. We merely wanted to place a drink order, to go along with the food order that she just took from us (that she never placed to the kitchen). We were supposed to meet other people here but opted to walk out.
This bartender, working the Saturday night shift at 8:30pm might be happier at a job euthanizing shelter dogs. If this is their Saturday night staff line up, I can't imagine how they run this place. We're never going back.
