Ridiculous wait times and rude staff
by NicMc
Despite scathing reviews about wait times and rude staff, I decided to give the office a chance, After one hour (!) in the waiting room with a miserable four year old, we were taken to an exam room. A lady came in the exam room to get something and didnt even acknowledge us (didn't look in our direction). After five more minutes or so, I let my antsy daughter begin drawing on the paper on the exam bench she was sitting on. The lady came back and proceeded to tell me to stop my daughter from drawing on the paper. Her tone and look were extremely hostile. I had no problem with whatever office rules they had about the paper (however I had the idea of drawing on the paper because our primary care physician actually encourages such drawing during appointments to keep the child occupied) but I was really stunned that we had waited over an hour with no apology or explanation and then she came in with no greeting at all but rather went after my sick four year old. So I gently said we had waited over an hour and my daughter was very young. The woman said nothing and didn't look at me. I asked her if she had no comment about the wait time, and she said "everybody's having to wait." I asked her if she didn't want to apologize for the long wait time, and she shrugged and said "its not my fault." She was so rude that we left, and I asked for a refund and the Dr. to call me. I was told I would get a check in the mail. I have received no phone call and no refund. I have never walked out of an appointment (or posted a negative review) before, but it was a ridiculous waste of my time. My daughter missed school for nothing, and I had to pay a babysitter to watch my infant while we were there. And the Dr. had no interest in hearing my complaint, which I think shows an absolute lack of concern for his patients.
Keep on looking!

Today's appointment has left me angry enough to leave a negative review, which normally I do not do. I have seen Dr. Zelaya a few times. The wait is always long (1-2 hours), which is normal for most doctors. They do book several people for the same time, though, so don't be surprised to hear someone walk in saying "I have a 2pm appointment with Dr. Zelaya." when you also have a 2pm appointment with him. I get it, though - if someone does not show up, they lose money and have staff, bills, etc. to pay. However, they book too many people for the same time slot often. And the billing clerk is rude. I wanted to pay with American Express, they do not accept it. Okay, I'll pay with CareCredit - no, they do not accept that as payment for "just" office visits. So I paid with Visa. The billing clerk walks me to the exam room and clearly she is annoyed. She fixes the exam table but leaves without a word. Dr. Zelaya tries to keep the appointment to just 5-10 minutes max (if you're lucky). He recommended a treatment last Fall for an ongoing problem I'm having, said if it continues, let's do it next time. I was there today for the "next time" and he kept telling me to schedule an appointment for the treatment, which is just an allergy test. I kept trying to get it done today, but he would not do it. The technician/nurse is great, and she talked with me more than Dr. Zelaya. He's nice enough, but I would like the problem resolved or treated, not to keep taking different prescriptions. I will not be going back to him again. If you just need a prescription, then maybe he's your man. Otherwise, keep looking.
it's all about you

I have been visiting this doctor for almost a year now, and I never had a chance to comment on his service. After yesterdays treament , no matter how horrible my day to day went, It seems being there at skinworks makes me forget how bad my day is. I always leave happy from this doctor. I look great, I feel great, and everyone agrees.
Best Eyebrow Shaping/Waxing in NYC by Maria Sierra
by mpcooper
I've been to several places to get my eyebrows waxed from the neighborhood nail salon's to high end spas, but nowhere compares to Maria's skills at skinworks. She is both personable and gentle and really knows how to shape eyebrows to make them look there best. I highly recommend her!!!
Worst doctor ever, UNfriendly staff
by longq
This doctor is a scam!! Worst experience i ever had. I didn't visited this doctor just once i went there about 5 times! Every time i come in 5-10 min earlier my appointment time, and never been taken on time! Had to wait at least an hour every single time. The receptionist was always rude, as well as doctors assistant. When i get to the room another 15 minutes of wait and then 5 min with doctor who seem like been rushing somewhere and not giving me enough attention.
On my last appointment i told doctor all this and guess what? he didn't even care, he said "Yep, Don't Like it find another doctor" WHAT?!
WORST DOCTOR EVER!!
Ill never go anywhere else!

I have been going to Dr Z for a while now and he never ever disappoints. He takes such good care of my needs each and everytime and always welcomes questions and never rushes me.
I recommend Dr z to literally ANYONE who has any skin concerns.
Friendly staff, amazing esthetician ( Maria is the BEST! ) and my skin has never looked better.
I really dont understand the negative reviews on here... i feel they may be written by competitors! I can imagine anyone having a negative experience when surrounded by genuine intelligent and caring staff.
the greatest aesthetician in the world
by sgordy
I have written a review on the wonderful services of Dr Zelaya being my dermatologist for the past couple of years, but I need to write a separate review for Maria, the aesthetician. She is the most wonderful person in this world. She is very honest, soooo easy to talk to and gives great advice. I started seeing her and Dr Zelaya around the same time couple years ago and they have helped me maintain some of my sanity. My skin is the worst kind where things that normally don't occur with doing certain things, occur with my skin. My acne looks better than t ever had in the more than a decade of having it, and now I'm having other new problems and Maria and Dr Z are working with me to fix it, like they always have. Maria takes care of my skin as if it's her own and she understand the emotional impacts of what it takes to deal with problem skin like mine. I tell her all the time if she ever moves away I am moving too because I just cannot allow anyone else to touch my skin.
thanks Dr Zelaya

sucks starting 40's with a newly dx cancer. But Dr Z was more than helpful. On routine visit for my acne, he did a body exam .This small 'wart" on my back that was trivialized by me and my primary doctor turned out to be a skin cancer. He called me over the weekend to inform me of the biopsy results and by the following week I was having an inoffice surgery to remove it completely. I am now a true sunblock guru and a commited pt. Highest praise.
- Pros: all in one doc
- Cons: insurance nonsense
Very happy patient

Dr. Zelaya is a friendly and highly intelligent doctor. Any doctor you go to, expect the same amount of waiting time. An hour or so is acceptable, you have to realize he is a SKIN doctor and there is not much to look at. Any doctors office you will be waiting hours on end and be seen for about 5 mins. Not just Dr. Zelayas office. He looks, diagnoses and perscribes medications. I was in the office for a rash, they fit me in and he told me exactly what it is. He seen me for 5 mins and that's all I expected. His products are great and inexpensive, especially since many insurances do not cover medications. I appreciate his professionalism and will return to his office and do not mind waiting. Obviously an office that is packed means he's a great doctor.
Disappointed
by Elchelsea
I booked a recent visit to this office and was disappointed by my over one hour wait and not so friendly staff. The doctor (who obviously was seeing over 10 patients an hour) was running room to room as I patiently waited in his cramped waiting area. I was lured in by the slick outside advertising but unfortunately was not impressed by the time I left. I did not have a good experience.
- Cons: Long wait, rude staff, uncomfortable waiting area,
