Fantastic Halloween Party...

by Emilythecutiepie

ok...wow. I usually don't go to places I haven't heard anything about before, but we decided to take up a friend on his invite to a halloween party and wasn't expecting anything like this. Literally, from the moment we walked in, it looked like people were having the best time of their lives. There was full-on bacchanalian madness, the likes of which hasn't been seen since Dionysius himself staged his famous orgies and tore young maidens limb from limb in a wine induced frenzy! I've never seen so many people dancing and just having a great time. I had to check to make sure there wasn't a maenad working her ethereal charms on us! The music was superb and the drinks strong, and what was supposed to be a stopover on the way to a loft party turned into us dancing on the couches and drinking tequila like bandeleros until 4am. I will totally be back to this place. Anchor, you guys rock!!! A marvelous little spot, just off the beaten path...love it!

  • Pros: HOT crowd, really great DJs, cool staff and party
  • Cons: None!

Love this place!

by thegoodlife2010

Really, really, really cool place! Loved the nautical theme, and the music was some of the most fun I've heard in awhile. One of my friends told me later that this place is known for their DJs, and I could see why- the girl spinning rocked it all night and kept the whole place moving- I mean, how often to you see a whole bar dancing and getting wild? And I mean the ENTIRE place! I genuinely had a blast, and I plan on coming back very soon. One thing to note: This place is not for the uptight. People come here to party and have fun and it gets crazy as hell! Don't be suprised if a complete (hot) stranger climbs onto your banquet and starts dancing. Amazing little lounge.

  • Pros: FANTASTIC music, wonderful crowd, friendly staff, cocktails!
  • Cons: none that I could see

Great Happy Hour Party

by mereditheats

Anchor has become our happy hour spot for working functions. It is a chill little spot that always has good music and of course the work paid for open bar does not hurt. We were there for our fourth party last week and everyone had a great time. DJ was spinning great tunes, it was not too too crowded, bartenders were pouring pretty heavy...absolutely a great place for meeting friends and throwing back a few. I am sure that we will be there for round number five.

  • Pros: fun times!

Out to take your money

by KDizzle

I went here on a Sat night for a friend's birthday and this place was dark and crowded. The bar staff was rude and failed to explain the limit for using a credit card was a stiff $40.00! I ordered 1 beer and they refused to give me my card without charging me the amount. I attempted to dispute the charge and dealt with the GM, however, he put me off for 2 weeks claiming to be working on it, but never gave me a resolution. Most spots in the city charge $20 minimum and they are actually worth it. This place is a dumb and the bathrooms are gross. BEWARE of the charge because they won't tell you and there are no signs!!!

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: Rude bar staff; $40 minimum

Pre-Fashion week madness!

by fashionista79

I came here for a pre-fashion week party for General Idea, having only heard tales of legendary debauchery that supposedly take place beneath the antler chandeliers and nautical stripes. I wasn't disappointed. The music was simply amazing, and the crowd was great- the ladies were all rocking chanel and balenciaga purses and I was amazed at the shoes (LV, YSL, Ferragamo) that were being soaked in tequila as the DJ had his way with us (on the dancefloor of course, although he was oozing sexuality) The staff was cool, and although this was a private event, I will totally check this place when they are normally open. Anchor rocks.

  • Pros: Great decor, beautiful crowd, tequila!!!
  • Cons: I don't live nearby

WOW!

by PartyAnimal12345

I went to this bar last Thursday with some co-workers (we work at Viacom on Varrick) after being told of a mythical 2-hour open bar that starts at 7- well, suffice to say, it was no myth- we drank for free until 9, expecting to skip out after- UNTIL, the sickest DJs came on and all of a sudden the place was packed with a very good looking crowd- we stayed unitl around 1, gathering our stuff to leave when who walks in? Rashida Jones (from my favorite tv show, the office) and Kid Cudi!!! Kid Cudi sang some of his song Day and Night, which was cool- and I ended up staying and dancing until 4 and missing work, which wasn't cool. These guys throw a party!

  • Pros: Best Bar Ever
  • Cons: I don't live upstairs

BEST PLACE FOR A PARTY IN NYC PERIOD

by CondyNasty81

First off, I never write reviews online, but I felt I owed it to these guys after making the party I threw for my boyfriend a SPECTACULAR SUCCESS!!! I read several good reviews and figured I'd give them a try, and I was not disappointed- from the minute I arrived i was greeted by a funny (and hot) doorman, who immediately ushered us inside and sat us at a table on the dancefloor by the DJ- they didn't even try and force a minimum tab or bottles on us! The music was wonderful- they played a little bit of everything in a styloe that kept us dancing way past 3am. I HIGHLY recommend this place and will be back every weekend for the rest of my life! keep up the great work Anchor!

  • Pros: great staff, great drinks, GREAT music, FUN!!!
  • Cons: gets crowded late nite on Saturday, lines for bathroom
