I love Mercat

Always one of my favs. I have spent a few birthdays, anniversaries and great nights out here! I love the food, every time and it's always worth the money!
Do not go here!!!!!! Stole wedding gift from bride and groom!!!

I've been to Mercat once this past February on a date with my then fiance and loved the food, so we decided to choose this location for the reception dinner of our wedding. We wed this past august 8th and had a dinner of about 13 in their basement. The service/food wasn't as great as I had remembered, but I figured it was forgivable being that I was pretty happy that day. Maybe 20 minutes after we left, I realized that I had left a folder with my marraige license and tucked inside was also an envelope with our wedding gift of about $500 cash from our family. We immedietly returned to a folder without the cash inside. The whole restaurant crew, manager included claims to know nothing of it. I am in disbelief of the whole thing still. We never filed a police report that night only because my husband refused to end our weddding day calling the police. I recommend never to go to this place!
Amazing evening

This restuarant is worth it. I recently flew to New York from Miami on a business trip. This last tuesday I went in to Mercat for a business dinner and was blown away. The food was great, and the service was even better. Anyone who wants an evening of pure bliss should head to this tapas joint
good food & ambiance, extremely crowded

great food and a fun Spanish wine list, very trendy crowd, high prices - but the food is good, portions are generous for tapas, and the neighborhood is trendy and expensive anyway; this place is very very crowded - i was there on a Monday night and had to wait ages just for a seat at the bar, where i was bumped by everyone who passed by; service is great - very prompt and friendly
- Pros: great location, good food, service
- Cons: very crowded
best spanish food in new york
by ricky2244
I went to mercat this evening and I had a wonderful time. My girlfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary, and I was blown away. I guess right now they have two chefs from spain in the kitchen that are from really renowned restaurants in spain. Whatever they are doing is amazing. The veal cheeks are awesome and the lamb is the best I have had in a long while. My server was top notch and the wine suggestions were great. Any one who likes spanish food will be blown away.
Great service, Delicious food
by dzoto
Service was spectaculor. Even the manager took some personal time assisting me with finding a night club to visit afterwards. Ambience was very comfortable and cozy. Absolute best striped bass I've ever tasted anywhere. Portion size was exactly as wanted. Prices where a bit above par, but all the other factors helped make up for that. Would highly recommend.
Still Very Good!

I've eaten here a number of times since last summer. Just went back last Friday and although the food wasn't as good as it was a few months ago, it is still pretty phenomenal and very good. Also ate at Boqueria this weekend and Mercat is a lot better. The food has more flavor and is more exciting than Boqueria. I would still recommend Mercat!
Downhill since the summer
by jlubert
I live in the neighborghood and this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. While the service has always been poor, the quality of the food really began to deteriorate after the summer. Moreover, the menu is stale and some of the items they have added such as collared greens really made me wonder what is going on at this place. After several very disappointing meals here I no longer recommend this place. For good Spanish food check out Casa Mono, Degustation, Tia Pol, Boqueria or Pipa.
- Pros: Cool space
- Cons: Deteriorating food
Not that great any more
by pouper1
I used to go this summer and the staff was friendly, the food decent, and the wine list pretty good. This time, the hostess didn't even let us in (Most tables were empty and the bar was pretty empty too, but she said that we needed to wait over an hour to get a table!! And she didn't even let us go downstairs, pretending that there was no downstairs bar!) ridiculous attitude and not customer friendly - they lost a customer that was pretty loyal until then.
Great atomosphere, worst "tortilla espa?ola"
by crispilina
This is the first time I write a review, why now? because I'm from Spain and I always look forward to go to new spanish places. Mercat had a great atmosphere, we were seated right away (we had a reservation) and the service was excellent. But....the food was way to expensive for its quality, specially the spanish omelete, it had nothing to do with the real one in Spain. It tasted really bad and It had no potatos in it (which is a main ingredient). I didn't feel good after eating it and the next day I still had stomach ache. If you go don't order tortilla espa?ola!
