I have always called ahead to ask about a nail clip and have been told sure bring him in. This is now the second time I have walked down there and been told oh sorry the groomer is busy you will have to wait 45min to an hour. This is why I call ahead. To be fair this has never happened when the owner is there. But it should not happen at all. I have a busy schedule and to walk there and be told too bad come back is unacceptable!

Cons: Don't honor walk ins for nail clippings

One evening after work about a year ago I met Taz the owner of Petropolis. I was walking home and spotted a baby pigeon that was barely breathing. After placing my bags down and making a call to a local vets office who warned me not to touch the bird I did not know what to do. It still had life in it and was in the middle of a parking garage. A man at the garage mentioned to me that there was a woman who came by who had a pet store and perhaps she could help. He went down the street and returned with Taz and within a short time Taz came back with a friend, a ladder and container to place the baby bird in. She located a nest from which the baby fell and climbed the ladder to greatness!!! She was able to place the bird in the container by the nest and save this birds life. Yes she did of course go back up the ladder to make sure the bird was free to continue and happily climbed down the ladder with an empty container. And yes during the 40 minutes plus of this experience the birds breathing improved! Wonderful I thought what a special person this woman is. Taz as well as the rest of the staff are knowledgeable and have a sincere love for our furry friends. The store has a variety of nutritious food and supplements. My two cats are healthier and happier after following dietary changes advised by Taz. Petropolis also has grooming services. Angie is a fantastic groomer and also has a special way with the animals. I highly recommend Petropolis ..you too will be impressed!

Pros: A knowledgeable staff of animal lovers

Cons: some scaffolding and construction around the store which makes it a little hard to find.

Angie's the best groomer ever and Taz knows everything about every product in there. I moved to New Jersey and I STILL go there.

Pros: Lots to choose from, great staff

Cons: You do have to find your way through the construction (totally worth it tho)

You definitely want to go to Petropolis. The store is very inviting and well planned. Tazz, the owner, knows everything about nutrition and health for all animals. On her advice, I changed the food I was giving my dog. We no longer have to worry about tummy aches and running outside at 3am. He is healthy and happy. His coat is shinier and he is acting like a puppy again. He races for the food bowl at dinner time - and I think he is in love with Tazz. While my dog has short hair and doesn't need to be trimmed I still take him there to get a bath from Angie (the groomer). She loves all of the animals who come into her grooming area. My dog gets a bath and a strong blower. I can't tell you how great it is during shedding season. Normally I would have piles of hair everywhere in the house. But with the blower there is very little around. It lasts about two weeks, then we are back in the store. It is wonderful. I am sure that my vacuum loves it as well. Additionally, the selection of toys is great, as are the homeopathic treatments that are available. If Tazz doesn't have what you need then you probably don't need it! Occasionally Tazz also holds classes in her store. I have learned about everything from CPR for dogs to wound care. It is a great resource and I feel much better knowing that I can help my dog, while getting him to the hospital, if (god forbid) anything happens. Definitely go to this store (the prices are excellent) but be prepared to carry out some big bags - there is such a great selection!

Petropolis is a gem of a pet shop in downtown NYC. They have a great selection of food, toys, treats, etc. and the owner Taz is a warm, wonderful source of info for pet owners. I've also had my dog groomed here and they did a fabulous job (and he's not easy to deal with). I'd definitely recommend stopping in if you have a dog or cat and live or work in the neighborhood.

If you are looking for the best nutritional diet for your dog or cat....this store has the best organic and natural foods in the entire city. The owner and staff are very knowledgeable and can advise you of what type of diet your pet should follow based on any number of health issues, internal and external. They also supply a bevy of holistic remedies to aid your pet from itchy skin to a bad tummy ache!! Looking for a groomer that will not shave your Pomeranian bald or give your Maltese a poodle cut...then see Angie!. The best groomer is at Pertropolis. She also has a knack for trimming your pooches nails and cleaning his ears without a peep. That's talent! In additional to nutrition and grooming, they offer a great selection of walking tools, toys, clothes, beds, carriers...and much more. Is your little boy pulling you down the block to chase a leaf....then ask them to fit your pup to the appropriate harness to eliminate your daily shoulder aches and pains. Did i mention their LARGE selection of heathy treats? YUMM....My little dude can't wait to see what tasty morsel i bring home from there, but he prefers to sniff around and pick one out for himself. This store has it ALL. Everything you need to keep your pet healthy and happy! what more do you want from them....to pick up poo too? maybe not them, but they will provide you with local dog walkers for that. Put down that pupperoni stick and get down there now for an all natural treat for your pet now.
