Been to many other groomers in my day but since I have been in the downtown area, I have yet to be as happy as I am with The Salty Paw. From their great pet products to the way they make my pooch look to the friendly owners, I really must give them a big pat on the back! I highly reccomend bringing your pet here as they are very trust worthy and time efficient.
Pros: Pet products, grooming skills, ownership
Cons: none

The Salty Paw is one of the best dog spa's in NYC. They are so great that I travel with my pooch from the UES. The service is amazing and I LOVE their merchandise. They have the greatest toys, accessories, sweaters and treats. My dog loves going there and gets so excited in the cab because she knows she's in for a treat!! The additional cab expense is well worth it since their prices are amazing compared to what I have paid for similar items on the UES. Eric, the groomer, is the greatest and genuinely loves animals! Thank goodness for the Paw!!!!!!
Pros: Great staff. Great grooming and spa services. Awesome merchandise!
Cons: Wish it was closer!

I've been a regular customer since The Salty Paw opened their doors and I can tell you from experience that this place is a hidden gem. Grooming is always excellent, on time, reasonably priced and best of all.... they always give me back a happy dog! They also have great merchandise. Stuff I cant find anywhere else. Also, the girls that work there are awesome! Very nice addition to the neighborhood.
Pros: Best grooming! Unique product selection. Amazing staff. Very clean.
Cons: Wish they had one of these places for humans!

I live just north of Peck Slip and I thought the Salty Paw was a cute store with a great selection. Liked their merchandise, but everything seemed really overpriced. I noticed they had grooming. I had my partner take our Maltese in for a basic cut.. When he went to pick her up she was cut way too short and seemed terrified!! I would not recommend getting your dog groomed here.
Pros: Good Selection
Cons: Terrible Dog Grooming, Too Expensive

After reading the many positive reviews here, I took my dog in to get groomed, and they did a very poor job. It took too long and my dog looked awful. I will avoid this place in the future.
Cons: Expensive and Bad Dog Grooming

I've lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and I've got to say that the Salty Paw was a needed addition to the neighborhood. From a retail standpoint? It's a homey, fun alternative to our local, gray & depressing Petland Discount with more interesting merchandise (they make a point to try to find local suppliers and have things made special for the store.) From a social standpoint? It's a destination for neighbors with dogs to get together. The owners are both social dynamos -- they live in the neighborhood and want to get to know you and the animals. It must be said that Amanda is a little dog-crazy -- if she starts rolling around on the floor with your pup and you think she's laying it on a bit thick? I assure you, she's not acting. She's just a freak about dogs. Just look at her giganto Great Dane Tyras that sometimes "helps out" behind the cash register. Also, the events I've been to (a Valentine's Party and a fashion show) have been both well-organized (cocktails & hors d'ouvres) and amusing (dogs in fancy duds) and lucrative (ahem, yes, my bf's dog won a second place gift certificate in a costume contest). And no one went home from either of those events empty-handed...giftbags for everybody. From a grooming standpoint? I have a dog with short hair that doesn't get groomed, but I'm there enough where I've seen Eric do some pretty cool stuff. Do you know what a Komondor is? A Newfie? The big hairy guys come out transformed -- they smell good, and their insane fur coats have been heroically tamed. At the other end of the spectrum I've seen a lot of cute tiny fluffy dogs come out with the fancy, technical 'do's too. If you live in the neighborhood, you should give it a try. The girls spent so much time trying to get this place right and they're constantly working on making it better (products, staffing, etc...) If you're not getting what you need there, it's because you're not asking!
Pros: Outgoing local owners, Cool digs with a casual seaport vibe, Dog-related events, Treats!
Cons: My dog really wants to whiz on the planters by the door. ;)

We used to live in the Financial District and took our collie (loooong hair, tough to groom) to pretty much every groomer in the neighborhood, trying to find a good one for her. She is very skittish and generally comes home depressed. We were PLEASANTLY SHOCKED at how happy she was after her first visit to The Salty Paw! I think she wanted to stay there and hang out, whereas she's usually running for the door. And the grooming job was great, she looked beautiful and wasn't just shaved short like some give-up groomers will do. We have moved to the UWS, but still drive her downtown to go to The Salty Paw, despite a Biscuits & Bath that is right around the corner from us. She is just so happy there, and the groomer is fantastic. It is worth mentioning as well that it is a great value - they definitely don't overcharge. And the shop itself is a great little posh place to pickup treats for your pup. Its like SoHo's Doggie Style at the seaport.
Pros: High-quality grooming at a good value
Cons: None!

I have an older cat, who seriously needed a grooming. He is overweight, and less then pleasant. I thought it would be impossible to have him groomed, but he really does stink and I felt he would just be more comfortable after being cleaned and a trim. The groomers at the salty paw were able to groom hm completely , and were able to control him without trouble. I am so happy to know he is not a troublesome cat, and that I can have him regularly taken care of without having to go to the vet! The employees were super nice, and the store was really cool , it was all and all a pleasant experience.
Pros: Friendly staff, cool products, great services

I just moved to the neighborhood from Brooklyn and am still getting to know the area. I took my dog here for grooming and a sweater for the winter weather and the staff were very helpful and friendly in also referring me to many other businesses in the neighborhood. They are not only great at what they do but very nice to too. Thanks!

We were so happy to find our old groomer--Eric G at The Salty Paw. We have a havenese and a lab mix that use to go to Eric at his previous groom spa. We moved downtown and could not believe so did he. This groomer is the best they come!! I don't know Alexa, but she apparently does not work at the Salty Paw anymore-so not to worry by the bad reviews on her-she is gone. The Store's owners were so friendly and know their stuff. They have some really GREAT things I have never seen before, and there always seems to be new things each visit. We are so happy to find such a great dog store and have been reunited with our groomer. looking forward to the halloween party!!
Pros: Eric is the best groomer in biz!! Alexa is gone!!
Cons: more days of grooming avail (only fri and sat now)
