What's this? I forgot what we ordered. Who cares-It's amazin
by slinki
The food is fantastic!!! My only regret about this place is that it will become too popular and harder to get a table, or that the chef will take off soon. But they already have a very good pace for seating/reservation staggering, so as long as the chef sticks around, this will be my new favorite place in the W Village for a while. Love the decor. My cocktail was also wonderful. Again, not into sweets, and the Perilla 75 has JUST the right mix of sweet, sour and zing. Wasn't crazy about the dessert we shared (peanut butter something or other), but I'm not a big dessert person. It could be bigger, but then it might lose some of its uniqueness.
- Pros: food, service, design
- Cons: a bit small, a bit noisy
Fantastic New American
by tmhessel
I don't usually take time to review but Perilla was so good that I will. 9:45 res for two. Seated right away. Space bet tables was tight, but not more so than many Manhattan places. Noise loud, but place was packed, and noise probably a function of place size (small, but not tiny as described in some reviews). Shared app: roasted maine sardines w/ black hummus, piquillo peppers & oregano vinaigrette. Entrees: dorado (special) w/ chickpeas & water chestnuts; roasted local game hen w/ orzo, summer vegetables, pea greens & poultry jus. Desserts: rhubarb sorbet cake w/ creme fraiche parfait & peanut butter chantilly; vanilla scented doughnuts w/ key lime custard & coconut refresher. Donuts highly recommended. Service impeccable, food delicious.
- Pros: All food and service
- Cons: Noise level
Really nice dining experience
by exeunt
Wife and I went to Perilla for our anniversary. Warmly lit dining room that wasn't too bright provided a really romantic atmosphere. The food was really something special. Duck meatballs, crispy pork belly, branzino and lamb, and vanilla scented doughnuts were all wonderful. A very indulgent meal that left us feeling very satisfied. Friendly and knowledgeable staff made it all the more enjoyable. Great place for a special occasion. Well worth the price. Can't wait to go back and try brunch.
- Pros: food, atmosphere, staff
- Cons: none really
Fantastic Food & Great Service
by NYCKiwi
The perfect combination of great food and good service in a nice intimate restaurant atmosphere. Came here with a large group of New Yorkers, and visiting Australians & New Zealanders and every single person was satisfied. Impressive! Go Harold!
- Pros: Delicious Food & Great Service
Exquisite food
by chic9chica
We had Summer Truffle & Sheep's Milk Ricotta Ravioli, Scallops, Pork Belly and doughnuts. Everything was delicious. The ravioli was extremely yummy and light, scallops were beautifully seasoned with a perfect crispiness on the outside, the same delicious crispiness in the pork belly dish. We have eaten in the most fabulous restaurants and this one is up there with the best. The service is excellent our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommend this restaurant; we plan on coming back for more.
- Pros: Fabolous Food
- Cons: Small Portions

Great brunch
by pil2001
I've been here twice for brunch and the place has been great both times. The omelets are a perfect texture. Make sure to order sides--the main course comes unaccompanied. The fruit is especially fresh and diverse and the toast is fancier than you'll find for most brunches. Nice, attentive service too.
High-quality food and service without the high drama
by NYCCaro
My friend and I went to Perilla on a Friday night--early--as reservations can be hard to get. We were greated warmly and seated immediately upon arrival. We ordered glasses of rose wine to start, after our server offered us a sample. The wine was perfect for a warm summer evening. The menu isn't extensive, but since this is a relatively new restaurant, perhaps it shouldn't be. I had the pork belly appetizer, which was outstanding--crispy on the outside and juicy and tasty on the inside--and the special pappardelle carbonara, which our server offered to bring as either an appetizer or entree. My friend had the duck, which was perfectly cooked. We moved on to dessert--individual carrot cake and ginger ice cream for me and a trio of sorbet for my friend. The desserts weren't extremely inventive but they were tasty. Both dishes were light enough to send us out into the evening without the food coma that can come with super-sweet desserts. Both of us were very happy with what we ordered.
Overall, the experience was very good: high-quality food and attentive service without high drama or attitude. The atmosphere and decor at Perilla are understated, taking a definite backseat to the food. Chef Dieterle could have made this place into a spectacle, having won Top Chef, but he seems to have consciously chosen to focus on the right things. Smart choice.
[BTW, we went early so we didn't have problems with the noise level.]
- Pros: food, service, wine, location

this place was great! went here for an anniversary with my boyfriend because i am a huge top chef fan. we had the duck meatballs (great) the bison loin tataki (great) for apps. next we had the duckling, ravioli, and faro risotto all three were great (esp. the risotto). for dessert we had the doughnuts (they were good, somewhat forgettable, but good). the wine and service was excellent. i would highly recommend this place to anyone. the noise may be an issue but it's expected for such a popular place. please go here!
- Pros: wine, food, service
- Cons: maybe the noise
