I went with a group of 8 and we all enjoyed ourselves and the food was great. Once our order was taken, the dishes came out hot and fast. i suggest reservations if you are going with a group because the dining room filled up fast. The price was very good for what we ordered too. Try the spicy vermicelli dish! My only negative was that we were not asked if we wanted dessert but were just handed the check at the end of the meal. Large menu and more convenient for me than china town.

Pros: midtown location, cute decor, spotless tablewear etc.

Cons: wait staff may be overwhelmed when full.

Great service, great food!! I definitely recommend this restaurant. They even have karaoke til 2 a.m!! Great price too! It was only $10 per person...not HOURLY but for the whole time from 12-2 which includes food. Drinks are separate. Make sure you call and set up an appointment. I will definitely come back next time I'm in NYC!

I have had several meals here - both large ones for 30+ people and smaller ones of 2 - 6 people, and each time the food was delicious, beautifully prepared, fresh and interesting. Friendly service and a casual attractive atmosphere as well. The Butterfly Shrimp, Penking Duck, and Crysal Shrimp Dumplings are fanastic.

Pros: Delicious specialities, comfortable dining room, friendly service

I have been to this place several times and enjoyed the great selection and variety of Chinese dishes. They recently added a sushi bar and serve fresh sashimi and sushi as well. They even have creme brulee now, which is as good as what I have tasted in some French restaurants. There is also plenty of beers to choose from, and during happy hour 2-7pm it's only $2.50 a bottle. Given the price range and convenient location this is probably as good as you can get, if you want to have it all. Funny though, today I went back and even found a palm reading stand right at the entrance. That is not part of the restaurant, but if you want to check out your luck...

Pros: value,variety,service,location

I often eat take out at home because I don't like the cramped, rushed environment of many New York restaurants. Heavenly Bamboo is spacious and unrushed. It has more the feel of a French Cafe where you can sit as long as you want. My partner is Chinese and knows Chinese cuisine well and rates the food as both excellent and authentic. We've both traveled in China and the food reminds me of great meals in China and Hong Kong. Shanghai style dried bean curd makes a healthy, unique appetizer and Sezchuan Chili Chicken is great for people with a taste for spicey food. The owner is happy to make recommendations and the kitchen accomodates special requests. Good Chinese food in a relaxing environment--just what I've been looking for!

Pros: unrushed, relaxed spacious, authentic cuisine

My first time to NYC. I have heard that people are generally cold in New York and country fellows like me can't expect too much here. But I met the warmest people here in this restaurant. I am not an expert but I found the Chinese food here very delicious, and different from my home town's, where one really doesn't have much to choose from. The owner gave me a free red bean cake after meal and some postcards designed by a well-known painter as souvenir. The cake was warm and so was my heart, and the drawings on the cards made me smile again and again after I left the place. Surely there are some kind fellows in New York!

A friend of mine who works in the neighborhood swore to me that this place was THE BEST chinese in the city and told me to give it a try if I doubted her opinion. Well, after being a doubter, I am now convinced that Heavenly Bamboo might actually be the very BEST. The food was hot and delicious. The menu had a ton of variety, but the most impressive part was the affable and friendly service. I would definitely recommend this place!

Pros: service, food, menu selection

Cons: none
