Parents beware - Kudo Beans non kid friendly tea shop

by nydiap

My husband, 10 month old baby girl and I had a terrifying experience at this shop with their 'teapots' for lack of a better term.

I ordered a hot tea and my husband an iced tea, which the attendant told us would be sent to our table. After inspecting our surroundings and making sure that they were baby safe, we got our baby girl out of the carriage and let her stand by us. When the waitress came she brought us two teapot containers with scalding hot tea and placed them on the table right in front and within reach of our daughter without so much as a warning. I immediately did what most parents would instinctively do, which is to find a place that is as far out of reach from our daughter to put the scalding hot teapot contraption on. As I was doing this I instinctively put my hands around the contraption to make sure that the lid did not come off of it. As I lifted the teapot contraption from the table scalding hot water started pouring from the bottom of the contraption straight onto my foot. As the waitress is watching this happen she decides to tell me that their teapots dispense from the bottom as they are placed atop their cups. My only thought at this point is to make sure that none of the water has gotten on my daughter. As we started coming down from what had happened, my husband and I noticed that nowhere on the teapot like contraption was there a warning on how it works or that there could be the possibility of scalding hot water pouring out from the underside of the contraption. I hope that if any of you do decide to visit this shop you keep what I have said in mind so that no one goes through what I went through.

I am still shaking at the thought of what could have happened if the water had poured onto my daughter instead of on my foot. I am also upset that the personnel at this place did not deem it important enough to fill us in on how their equipment works so that people do not wind up burning themselves like I did.

This East Village cafe does it all: Fresh-roasted coffee, a large selection of teas, pastries, sandwiches and wraps, gelato and pay-as-you-go internet service.

The highlight of my morning

by brklynite

I usually pass by Kudo Beans around 7:00am, right after they open and the entire place still smells of freshly-baked muffins. Their raisin bran muffin is honestly the best muffin I've ever had in my life and now I can't buy muffins from anywhere else! Perfectly hardened on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Coffee and atmosphere are also amazing!!

Kudos to you

by ericthered

This place is one of the best coffee houses i have visited in a while.

The staff has always been good, and you're always greeted with a smile =)

They have a variety of sandwiches and salads and their gelatos are soooo yummy, not to mention the freshly baked cookies they pull out of the oven...mmmMMmmm

Too bad they don't have any more outside seating..

Worsened

by madge88

I've been coming here since it opened a few months ago and have seen the overall quality of the food worsen while prices stay the same. The salads and portions are so much smaller since they first opened and the dessert prices are extravagant, and none of them are baked on the premesis. The last time I visited Kudos I asked for a little more lettuce in my salad and the guy making it made an annoyed face, which is ridiculous since the salads are half the size of what they used to be. The lettuce was limp and brown and so were the cucumbers. It's disappointing since this place used to be great.

  • Pros: Good desserts
  • Cons: Cheap owner, Expensive
