I have found the right salon

by mhanabata

Went to RH for the first time through my friend's recommendation. My hair was done by Reiko. She did not disappoint my expectation. I got a beautiful haircut and color. Everyone at the salon is helping each other, pleasant and professional. I was hesitating to leave my current hairdresser after so many years, but now I feel that I did the right thing. I highly recommend anyone who wants to be happy with your hair!

Wonderful salon!

by dragonfly0110

RH was great! Not having been before, but going on the previous glowing reviews, I went with high hopes -- and they were definitely not diminished! Jun's color job was wonderful; her gentle and thorough shampoo and massage were relaxing and her patience throughout the cut and blow-dry was unexpected -- even though my appt. went long after the salon had closed. The entire staff was very professional and attentive to their individual clients. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend RH!

  • Pros: Excellent attentive service, kind and professional staff

AWESOME!!

by dulce11

Reiko's been my stylist since I was 8yrs. old...

Sometimes I would go to a different stylist, but I always see myself going back to her!

I'm very picky with my hair, but reiko listens to all of my requests and grunts and blah blah. She does a thorough job and is AMAZING at cutting hair. I also got my hair straightened by her a number of times. She's not only a great stylist but is very kind. 5 stars!!

  • Pros: love the view, love the people, love it!
  • Cons: it's kinda hidden in a mall

NO BRAINER

by dodherc

I have tried ALOT of hair stylists and only have had a few who could cut my hair well, since it is so straight and fine. I was becoming desperate, but decided to give RH a try while visiting in NY. It was a smart decision! I had Hachi cut and style my hair and I am thrilled with my cut. He took time to talk about my hair before doing anything to it and took his time while cutting it as well. I never felt rushed the whole time I was in the salon. I highly recommend RH Plus Salon. I will be going back every chance I get.

My search is over

by mina7086

If you're looking for high quality service by friendlly skilled professionals in a beautiful salon, this is the place to go! I love the way the salon is open and bright with natural sunlight- you know, the last thing you want to see while getting your hair done is your own tired face in the dim light, but you don't have to worry about it here. I had my hair cut and permed by Ryuji, who is definitely one of the best hair stylists in NYC. I decided to make an appointment with him after learning about him in a free Japanese newspaper (he was a top hair stylist for a super-famous salon in Tokyo, etc) and he did not dissapoint me at all. He's a genius with his shears and takes pride in his work. He even spent plenty of time teaching me how to style my new look (even asked me if I have any questions in regard to general styling....very impressive!)- think, how many stylists actually do that here in NYC? I also had an excellent shiatsu massage by his assistant, Naoki, who also brought me new magazines and a glass of iced tea (not in a disposable cup..isn't it nice?) while having my hair permed. I love my new look and will definitely go back.

Best haircut experience

by betty800

I've been going to Reiko for almost 5 years - she is the first hairstylist I've come across that I finally feel knows how to cut my hair. Now I know that having great hair isn't EVERYTHING, but it's just so great when I can finally relax in a salon chair. She is really attentive and listens to what I want - and she's just super nice to top it off! The rates are totally reasonable for New York City. I have recommended her to a bunch of my friends and they have all given me positive feedback on her styling. She's versatile too - when my hair was long, when my hair was short - it's just so easy to talk to her about what I want with my hair, and she delivers.

A wonderful, friendly salon!

by mary7845

I have very difficult hair to manage and had always dreaded getting it styled until I started going to RH plus Salon. It has drastically changed the way I feel about my hairstyle in a very positive way! I have wavy, unpredictable hair but my stylist Hachi always knows exactly how to cut it so it feel soft and manageable and it is very easy to style ( Thank god I don't need to spend hours with styling tools anymore!) The salon itself is very airy and bright and sunny from the large windows that frame one half of the salon. The staff is extremely friendly and the minute I walk in I am always greeted with a warm smile. After a consultation with Hachi I am then led to get my hair washed which is a wonderful, soothing experiencing. The Japanese shiatsu head massage is really one of a kind. It is really amazing:)?Then, the exacting process of getting my hair cut begins! Hachi and the other stylists take their time and carefully cut my hair. I appreciate this care because he always checks with me too to make sure I am comfortable with the amount he is cutting, etc. I have my hair straightened here regularly as well and they do a really great job with long-lasting results! I have had my hair straightened before in Japan when I was living there for a short time and the results were not nearly as good or long-lasting. The stylists are also able to recommend some really effective and reasonably-priced styling products as well! As I sit and have my hair styled with the nice assortment of beverages they offer I am always really treating myself to a relaxing, fun, spa experience! I give RH Plus 5 stars and I highly, highly, recommend it to everyone! Enjoy!

  • Pros: Great service, attention to detail, luxurious

TOP NOTCH...period.

by seikodesu23

I have been following one of the owners, Hachi, for 10 years now. I've moved 300 miles away, yet I still come back to NYC JUST to get my hair done by him. I have gone to other Japanese hair stylists in NY, and even when I tried going to a Japanese hair stylist in my city(yes, 300 miles away), they ALL KNOW(or know of) HACHI! He is very well known and famous amongst the Japanese hair stylists. I tried going to these other places, but their skills do not compare to his. In fact, one of the salons I found through here and I went because it was rated the best Japanese Hair Salon in NYC. The owner of that salon knew Hachi, and said that he was somebody she looked up to and called him a perfectionist. And she is right on about that. He never rushes because of of his high pride, and is very detail-oriented which are the very reasons why Japanese Hair Stylists are so good with hair. Outside of RH Plus Salon, he cuts/styles hair for fashion models as well.

The service is very professional and accommodating. Of course, the shampoo & conditioning massage is wonderful...this includes while washing and after the wash. The high windows shed lots of light bringing a nice ambience to the room.

I have been complimented for years on my haircut, and my friends ask me all the time who cuts my hair. My friends in NY, my friends HERE & even THEIR friends have all gotten their hair done by Hachi through me and love the result they get every time.

From experience, and talking with many hairstylists, I've come to the conclusion that Hachi is top notch. If you want the best of the best amongst Japanese Hairstylists, Hachi is the person to go to. I recommend making reservations rather than walk-in's, since he's got quite a following being in the business for so long.

  • Pros: Great natural feeling hair, Ambience, Service, Professional, Location
  • Cons: Absolutely nothing.
