The rudest staff ever
by josephanthonym at Citysearch
The RUDE HIDE is very close to home & I have been going there for years.
Never have I seen so many customers treated badly, refused service, barred from coming back & thrown out of a bar.
I am not talking isolated instances, I am talking like 3 times a week!
Talk about BAD attitudes: especially the nite staff as a group can be real picky, rude, nasty, paranoid, & downright MEAN.
When their stimulants are wearing off & they get edgy this "us versus them" mentality kicks in toward the customers.( the place has been closed dowm in the past for selling OVER the bar.)
My most memorable experience came when they threw this guy out for being REALLY drunk.
He went to hail a cab & feel down in the street on 8th ave, right in front of the place.
They left him there, LYING IN THE STREET!!!
He could easily have been run over.
I got him into a cab & safely to his destinaion.
This is the sort distane for other human beings that they are capable of.
I too have witnessed racism & sexism toward customers MANY times.
I was recently barred over a misunderstanding involving a tip & the notion that I expected a free glass of beer.HA!
I tend bar myself & NEVER do I not tip nor expect buy-backs.
Well the bitter queen bartender involved refuses to listen to reason, CASE CLOSED.
I'll be happy to never see the inside of that DUMP again.
When they've driven all of us away & the place goes under-I will give a GOOD RIDDENS party!
In the meantime I'll be taking my business to bars where they don't resent their customers.
- Pros: close to home
- Cons: rude staff
Drunk Rude Doormen
by DaveinNewYork at Citysearch
The drunk doorman did not want to let me in because "some black guy" went in to use the bathroom before, and did not have a drink. He said "there are not too many big black guys around ... it was you." Nice. I had been here a couple of times before, and thought of not patronizing anymore ... now that I know they hate black people, I won't go again.
Strong drinks, Hot staff

Love the place! Seedy- Cruisy- And Cheap! The edgy bouncer dds to the asthetic. I thouroughly enjoyed myself and the go-go boys and let me just finish by saying it hasnt been there for 39 years for nothing.
- Pros: John the Bouncer
Great time AGAIN!
by bigcitytraveler at Citysearch
I was back at the Rawhide again on Thursday while on business and had another great time with my friends. Unlike the last review, I had no problems with the bouncer, had a great time with the bartender who made us good shots and we played pool while the dancers (who are hot) danced on the bar...good music too. Always a fun time at the Rawhide. To the last reviewer (nobody is perfect in a bar...get over it and lighten up!) My last review is gone too....hmmm. Oh well, posted this one.
- Pros: cheap strong drinks, good music, hot dancers, good service
- Cons: a bit too dark and the music is a bit too loud
Thumps down
by dje07 at Citysearch
Despite the cheap drinks and go go boys, Rawhide is probably the less frequented bar in Chelsea. The place is smelly, the service is poor, the crowd is less than perfect. The bouncers are rude, especially the middle age guy, who is known for being very agressive at times. It's tiny and cruisy but not worth visiting.
- Pros: cheap and strong drinks
- Cons: poor customer service, rude bouncer
