Serious beer drinkers (and those over 25) relish the calm--and the bevy of international brews--at this subterranean charmer.
A Clean, Clean Bar!
by kierastar
Oh no! Looks like someone has a personal vendetta out on The Rook. Let's grow up, people. I was so surprised to read that ONE negative comment because I've been there 4 times since it opened in August and I find it to be one of the cleanest bars I've been in in the East Village. In fact, the bathrooms are among the best I've used in the area! The bartenders were busy, but fine. I was served quickly and respectfully.
Bottom line: if you are serious about beer, The Rook is the place to be.
- Pros: Young's Double Chocolate Stout on Tap!!!
- Cons: none
Dirty, Dingy and Depressing.

Walked in here and soon afterward walked out....no crowd, expensive and bad attitude from the bartender! Will never go again!
- Pros: none
- Cons: dirty, bad attitude.
Great Vibe on Friday Nights
by tpetruccio
I was haviing dinner with one of my girlfriends when I decided I wanted dessert. She convinced me to skip it; instead, she took me over to The Rook, where the bartender was more than happy to combine Lindeman's Rasberry Framboise with the unbelievable double chocolate stout on tap. It was absolutely amazing. Another bartender at The Rook had recommended this for my friend the week before. The place is great. Too many things to try in one night though!
- Pros: Many beers to try!
- Cons: Many beers to try!
The Rook top notch LES beer joint
by ovmtoday
Stumbled across this LES gem. Had plans to meet up with friends elsewhere but made it homebase on a Wednesday night. My goal was to have one of each of their 50 beers offered but only made it to 19. The bar tender was friendly and our conversation quickly shifted to the English Preimership (soccer). A tape replay was on the tele. The eye candy was on point for a Wednesday and the beats were friendly to my ear. Jukebox included the bravery, the stones, neil young, and wolfmother.
