We were a walk-in party of 3 at 9pm on a Thursday night. It was rather ironic that on our way to Bobo we were talking about how rudely so many great restaurants treat walk-ins. The hostess at Bobo couldn't have been nicer, greeted us with a smile, brought us to the bar, chatted with us, etc. The bar and restaurant are beautiful. We were at the bar for about a half hour and were seated downstairs where the walk-ins are placed. Let me preface my next comments by saying that I've been to hundreds of restaurants in the city, I'm a foodie and appreciate great service. It is without hesitation that I say that Derrick was the best waiter I have ever had in New York. Per Se? no. Le Cirque? not even close. Towards the end of the meal, he even sat down with us and tasted a little wine. Anyways, on to the food. The butternut squash soup was great, the chestnut soup was good, but a little grainy. For mains we had the truffle butter pasta which was an absolute joke, the shrimp risotto-- shrimp was amazing, meyer lemon risotto was undercooked, not creamy, and tasteless and the paperdelle with bacon, etc was an amazing attempt at a new-world carbonara (5 stars). The wine list was well thought out and very well priced. We had two bottles of white ($36 & $38) that were 92+ points. In all, the restaurant has some kinks to figure out with the food, but service is so unlike New York that you have to take a step back to really appreciate it. Make sure to make a reservation though, the upstairs is absolutely stunning.

Pros: SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE

Cons: Some of the dishes were weak attempts, portions are small (can be a pro or con I guess)

Insider Tips

What to Drink

Northern Italy makes an appearance on the reasonably priced wine list, but France is the real star. Or try house cocktails like Bobo's Mead ($16), a mix of Plymouth gin, lime and lavender-infused honey.
