Great for a special occasion

Yesterday was my boyfriend Mike's birthday. This guy could eat so I wanted to take him somewhere he wouldn't leave hungry. Enter Primehouse in the Flatiron district. When we walked into the main dining room, I was almost taken aback by the decor. The tall marble walls, black and white geometric patterned floors and fabrics and lit-up wine display cases truly make a statement. The food did as well. Mike started with the pork belly appetizer. I know pork belly has been all the rage on menus lately, but I had yet to taste it. I did, and I can't say my life wouldn't be complete without it (I'm not one for lots of fat staring me in the face), but it was tasty. I had the gazpacho with crab meat and it was very refreshing with a poblano pepper kick. We both had the NY Strip Steak entree. Honestly, the best way to make the most out of Restaurant Week is to order a steak. The NY Strip is generally $45 on the regular dinner menu, so you've already got more than your money's worth. For dessert, I ordered the strawberry shortcake (it seems to be a theme) and Mike got this amazing chocolatey/smores/cinnamon creation that I ended up eating half of. Hey, he's lactose intolerant! What I thought was the sweetest though, was when the waitress brought out an additional birthday dessert - warm doughnuts with three squirt bottles of chocolate, strawberry and caramel sauce for dipping, all with a candle. I would definitely recommend this place for birthdays after that.

They had good appetizers...

The service was impeccable. Every whim was attended to expertly. I would have hoped that each course would be wonderful. However, it turned out to be a bit uneven. The appetizers were deliscious. The entrees were not that great. The desserts were hit or miss. I imagine for business meals, the people would be more impressed with how high the bill is versus the quality of the entrees. Passable enough to impress at the office, I guess.

Good Restaurant Week experience

Went for Restaurant Week. Had the mozzarella & red peppers appetizer, aged sirloin, and chocolate napoleon dessert. Overall a great value. All the food was prepared well and with great presentation. Our waiter was no-frills and was very attentive. However, I did notice a change in demeanor when he realized we were there for RW and nothing else.

Overall a great value for RW and somewhere I would probably go back. Nothing to write home about, though.

Great Steak

Came here first time for the Restaurant Week dinner. This Steakhouse has a modern decor and is very spacious. After we ordered our food, they gave us a rod of bagel-looking bread that tastes warm and yummy.

I really like their Pork Belly; it was melting in my mouth; the Mozzarella with Spinach is just fresh and tasteful. I think their strong dish is their Aged Sirloin Steak; it was crispy outside as if it were fried and inside is still rare and tender. I got the Short Rib with Potato. Short rib is well marinated and tender but I think the Potato side is a bit too sweet.

At first sight, the entree doesn't look huge but they sure filled us up. Finally, our desserts came. I really like the Chocolate Moose Cake with a scoop of Banana Ice Cream.

I heard they have great Burgers too. would like to try it sometime!

Genetically Modified Moo

Went in expecting a nice steak dinner, left with a creepy feeling about a cow that was genetically engineered for me to consume. With all the natural, organic food craze, the theme of the steakhouse is unsettling. The space is huge and the decor is nice although the enormity of the space gives it a corporate impersonal feeling. At the end of the meal our server tried to solicit contact information from us for their "reservation system".

Highly Recommend

Excellent all around.Very nice,spacious bar area.Very good food and service.Some different selections than a typical steakhouse,like hangar steak and short ribs.Good side selections.First time eating here(party of 8) and all were very pleased with the place.Good crowd also.Younger and better mix of men and women than some of the old line spots.Will definitely go back again soon.

Love Primehouse

Steve Hanson has done it again. This restaurant is sublime. We went for my then-fiancee's birthday dinner and then decided we had to have a dinner party with our family there. We had 15 guests for the party and it was absolutely perfect. The food is delicious and service is wonderful. Ask for Brian to be your waiter. Favorites on the menu include the Kansas City Sirloin, Grilled Lobster, Parmesean Polenta, Shellfish Tower and White Chocolate or Pumpkin Souffle. We absolutely love Primehouse.

• Cons: being too expensive to eat here every week!

Great Food and Service

Went there with my friends an early dinner before a show. The service was amazing. There was almost always someone at or near our table to respond to requests. They aren't pushy and intrusive though, just attentive and friendly. The waitstaff is also very good about recommendations, and didn't steer us wrong. Although with the menu here I doubt there is anything you could order that would disappoint.

The menu at this place is not just about the featured items but all the thought and care that goes into creating the plates. Of the items that I ordered I was just as excited about the accouterments as I was about the features.

Great for private parties

I recently held a private brunch party at Primehouse NY. Everything from start to finish was really perfect. First, I was shocked at the amount of menu options you can choose from when throwing a private party. You have 3 brunch items AND 3 lunch items. The food was great and everyone in my party was raving about the restaurant. I have been here for dinner on a few occasions, but I would definitely return for brunch. Also, the maitre d and servers were super professional and helpful ensuring everything was to my liking. The private party room is beautiful and the seats are sooooo comfortable! I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant and recommend it for not only dinner, but brunch and private parties.
