What a great studio! This is by far the best and most professional Pilates Studio I've been to on the upper east and west side. Love the instructors and all the staff. I'ts a beautiful environment too! A great workout and many options to choose from.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

Center for Movement is a great studio, with a flexible schedule, and warm knowledgeable instructors. I do no live in the city, but I work there and I try and squeeze in a session whenever I can. The studio has been more than accommodating and I have never had a problem finding a class that fits into my tight schedule. The classes are challenging but well worth the time and the instructors work hard to help each client reach their full potential. The personable atmosphere is one of the best features at Center for Movement. The instructors are very kind and give each client personal attention and the owners are always around the studios and show a true passion for their work. Center for Movement is a business that was created with love and commitment to people’s well being and it has stayed true to its roots since day one.
Pros: Personable, challenging classes
Cons: Can't think of any

Wow! To think one can be patronized for such a low price! Cold atmosphere. Fluorescent lights?! No time for questions or talking after a session. Owners seem like they couldn't be bothered... Very apparent, this place is about the money, not different bodies' needs. Crammed clients and instructors look like they're handling more than a bit of stress. Thanks for the boutique in my face while I'm working out. This phony place looks ill conceived at the core. Hard to break an honest sweat and feel human about it in this cookie cutter den designed, not for honing warm genuine body-mind connection - but for prying the cash from you still-grasping paw. Expect nothing real to hold on to here. Good thing they take plastic. It's what they're made of!
Pros: not much choice
Cons: bad

Response from this business

Owned and actively managed by two highly qualified, educated, professional, competent and certified instructors who studied with Joseph Pilates’ premier student – Romana Kryzanowska – The Center for Movement’s (CFM) 2nd Avenue (at 77th Street) location is their third since 1998, indicating their growing popularity. Their facilities are remarkable – new equipment, constantly clean and well-lit environment, friendly and helpful staff and a group of qualified, certified, caring and friendly instructors who always explain what they’re doing with, to and for your body – with sincerity and expertise. You get out what you put into any workout – and CFM’s instructors help you work out hard, always – always – with the Pilates focus on core strengthening and breathing. I vary my sessions with different instructors as each one emphasizes different facets of the Pilates exercises, providing me a deeper appreciation of the techniques. Groups are small, and sessions vary from beginner to advanced, with enough variety and flexibility for anyone to attend their own level of workout. CFM’s equipment – Mats, Reformers and Towers, are all Pilates-based. Privates are available, but I prefer the Group Tower Power sessions most, as they combine the best of both Mat- and Equipment-based instruction and workout, and I learn from the instructors’ comments to others as well as to me. Males and females of varying ages – even other Pilates instructors – show up at any given session, and my experience is that attention is always given to those with special needs. I did a lot of homework (and visits) when I decided to attend a professional studio after practicing on my own for several years. CFM impressed me more than any other in the area. I’ve been attending CFM now for a few months, and expect to continue for as long as I’m able. Their prices are very competitive, their schedules are all day and most evenings, and I’m getting what I want: consistently excellent Pilates instruction.
Pros: Always clean, friendly, competent, convenient, adaptable to skill levels, good equipment
Cons: Give me time: I'll find one.

I went to center for movement because I am a student and received a discount rate. I had a great experience and will return many more times! This was my first time doing pilates and the instructor made me feel extremely comfortable and was very patient. Class size was small. It was also very clean, bright and happy! Go and bring a friend.

While searching for local Pilates in NYC I came across Center For Movement. I was interested in a studio to expand my knowledge of Pilates (having a background in Dance and previous experience). The studio is welcoming, the instructors are well informed and the class sizes are a perfect size. There is enough individual attentention that one does not feel lost in the crowd. In a convenient location (close to bus and subway) this a a great studio and highly recommend it.

I was a little nervous taking a pilates class for the first time in such an intimate setting, but the staff at Center for Movement eased my fears on the phone and I'm so glad I tried it!! The staff is excellent, the prices are very reasonable for such a small class size, and the workout was fabulous. We used the Tower, which is very intimidating at first, but my instructor was very helpful in teaching me how to use it correctly. I'm definitely going to start a pilates routine here and hopefully go beyond "Beginner" status! The class times are perfect also - it's so hard to find classes early in the morning, but Center for Movement opens at 6:45am with the first class at 7! I really enjoyed myself and am looking forward to continuing classes here and seeing results.
Pros: class times, instructors, setting, tower mat classes, front desk staff
Cons: none

This studio is a great compliment to the lexington ave. studio! Now I get to have great instructors, a beautiful studio, and the energy of a mat class. This is my beginnings, this is was got me hooked on pilates! I forgot how challenging a mat class can be. But even though it can be hard it can be done by everyone. Now we have the best of both worlds on the upper east side! The instructors are great, the set up of the studio is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, but best of all are the results! You not only look better you feel fantastic! You walk out of class 2 inches taller! I recommend this studio to everyone!

I came to pilates with very little knowledge and experience, and as a male I thought it would have very little to offer me. While I always associated pilates and yoga together, taking classes here has opened my eyes to the many physical benefits pilates has too offer. While I still enjoy practicing yoga, pilates has proven itself to give faster results and increase lean muscle mass, as well as maintain fluidity and flexibility. The classes are not only dynamic and fun, but all of the instructors are helpful and encouraging. The desk staff is also extremely helpful and the studio is very well-kept. I would thoroughly recommend anyone looking to get in shape, increase strength, or even maintain muscle mass and flexibility to take a pilates class at Center For Movement.

Center for Movement on 2nd Avenue is truly an oasis of serenity where you can go for the ultimate workout! Aesthetically, this place is gorgeous. As soon as I walked through the door I felt the stresses of my daily life melt away. The lighting, colors, and just overall soothing ambience make it highly conducive to a great workout. All of the teachers are trained in the Authentic Classical Pilates method and really catered to my needs. From the very beginning my experience has been terrific. The front desk manager was so knowledgeable in informing me about Pilates and the studio even before I came in; my instructors since I have been there have been patient, insightful and have provided me with a sore tummy over and over again. The owner’s are truly passionate as well as extremely knowledgeable in what they do and that shows by the way they show such respect and care for each of their client's needs. This studio if phenomenal and I recommend it to everyone, especially those who are looking to shed their post –holiday tummies; I am ecstatic with my results!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: Professionally trained staff, great brand new equipment, clean and inviting
