Worst experience in NYC

by nycplanner

If you are looking to have your birthday party at a fun place in NYC where you won't run into problems with the bouncers and management then this IS NOT the place!

I held my birthday party here on a Saturday and it was the worst experience I have ever had at a club in NYC. First, I was told that I could have 175 plus guest at the party, but when I arrived they wanted to cap it at 150. After talking with management I got it capped at 170. Second, I was suppose to have the upstairs area available only to my guest from 10:00 PM - 4:00 AM, but they started letting people into our area at 1:00 AM. Third, the bouncers were EXTREMELY rude with me and all my guests, even make some of my male guests wait outside for more females to arrive before they were let in! Fourth, all my guests were supposed to get in free all night, but they started charging them $25 after midnight. The bouncers are rude and management is sketchy. I will never go back to D'Or again, nor would I recommend it as a place to hold any private party.

Rude Security

by kathleenpember

I decided to plan my 28th birthday at D'or after a few friends recommended it. For the most part I would say every thing ran smoothly. But I would like to make the comment on how rude the security staff outside were. Not only did they get loud at my friends for no reason. They were giving attitude to me and my friends when we arrived there. It was really unprofessional and turned me off from going back there again. It's a shame cause D'or is such a nice place.

Not bad, not great... just OK

by callmezo

I was there on the Saturday for Valentines Day. The DJ was great, playing good music (good to me anyways) but most people were dancing around. it was way crowded around the bar/dj area, but the second room/space was quite empty. Younger mid/late 20s crowd. I would go back if I had to, but wouldn't be a first choice, but wouldn't be upset either.

  • Pros: good DJ, friendly bartenders

The place stinks of sewer

by DavidElev

Nice decor but the place smells like a sewer.

The staff told me it is a recurring issue.

A friend was having a party and all were going to meet there.

Once there it was clear there was a sewer leak into this basement club.

Rather then closing the place, the staff sprayed deodorizer and burt incence which made it worse.

Imagine the bacteria in the ice and glasses. Gross.

I would't go back if they paid me to.

Service With a Kick

by lasmrldjk

We went to D'or Sat night for my boyfirends birthday. We had reservaions for a table of 10 people and we told to be there by 10:00. We arrived at 10:30 and where we had to wait at the bar of the restaurant upstairs because of a private party running late. After a half hour we finally got service only because we got tired of waiting and complained. Finally we were escorted downstaris to our table. The night was great, DJ awesome, but the bus boys were like vultures. Every chance they got to get near our table they were trying to take full drinks and dump them. Late into the night after our second bottle one of the vulutres decided it was time to clean up and took our half full bottle of Grey Goose and throw it away, right into the grabage. After complaining to bouncers in the club, our waitress, and the manager, nothing was done to compensate us. Deciding to leave only because of this bottle drama, we got our coats and began to exit the club throguh restuarant. My boyfriend was leading us out. When we got to the front door a bouncer with an attitude problem opened the door and began to yell at us to "Clear my f****** space" several times. My boyfriend explained that he was just holding the door for the rest of our friends. With that that bouncer pushed my boyfriend almost knocking him to the ground and pushed my sister to the floor leaving her with a black and blue. When the cops were called, the bouncer ran inside the club and not one person there knew his name. It was all a joke to them, the cops did nothing and the club did nothing not even an appoligy. If you wanna have a good time but get you liquor thrown out and assaulted on your way out the door go to D'or.

AWFUL - NOT WORTH YOUR TIME/BOUNCERS AND HEAD BOUNCER VERY RUDE DESPITE OUR PARTY HAVING A RESERVATION CAUSED PROBLEMS!

by briecohen

TERRIBLE PLACE - My friend called to book this place for her birthday 2 weeks in advance, she made a reservation for 10pm and was told to ask for 'spencer' upon arrival. When we arrived at 10pm there was a private event going on and we were not allowed in initially despite having a reservation! When they finally did let us in they would not let all our guests in so people had to wait in a long line in the freezing cold despite having a reservation and despite the fact that the place was empty at 10pm! Eventually when we did get in we were told that if we wanted to sit down we had to order bottle service of $500/2 bottles per 1 small table. Finally when some of us decided to stay there were SO MANY people downstairs that you literally could not breathe let alone move around - ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! DJ was the only relatively good thing. Spencer was unbeliveably rude and arrogant to my poor friend despite the fact she had made a firm reservation weeks ago. When she was harsh with him he finally resolved it a little but still some of our friends did not get in and the door people were plain nasty. We do not recommend D'Or unless you want a sweaty night of near suffocation with a nasty reception from the door people who may or may not let you in - VERY DISAPPOINTING!

A downtown vibe makes its way to midtown at the Dream Hotel's swanky, subterranean lounge.

by Lucy Blatter

In Short
Set in a former carriage house, original distressed brick and stone walls give this underground hot spot a cavernous feel. But a lot has changed since the 1800s: Today, a crystal chandelier hangs from the site of a former coal shoot, a floating staircase covered in Italian tiles descends into the main room, and 20-somethings in stilettos occupy a space once reserved for equines. Chocolate-colored leather banquettes seat the young, rich and beautiful clientele that comes to dance to the DJ's popular tunes and sip high-priced cocktails. Looking around, you'd swear you were downtown.

Hits: To his credit, owner Greg Brier has eschewed minimalism in favor of fusing more textured and interesting European and American design aesthetics.

Misses: .You may find yourself hard-pressed for a place to sit unless you're willing to cough up some serious cash--especially on the weekends, when banquettes are reserved exclusively for the bottle-buying set.

Always happening

by likuid144

I've been coming to D'Or since it opened. The crowd is great, drinks are decently priced, space is beautiful and it's a great alternative for (what has become the awful) 27th st area. Bottles are really well priced, but there isn't a ton of dancing room. It's also fun to head up to the rooftop of the Dream late night.
