Great food and even better drinks!

by lcamilleri

Mojave has great food and an awesome outdoor space in the back. The bar is small but the cocktails are great...especially the prickly pear mojitos...powerful! Love the place!

  • Pros: Ambiance, Outdoor Space, Drinks

Great food, service and happy hour drinks don't hurt either

by MrsJen

I recently visited my best friend who lives in Astoria. After long hours of shopping on Steinway and walking around in Astoria Park we decided to stop at Mojave for a quick bite. Now, it was mid afternoon on a Wednesday but the place had a few people there. The service was prompt and our waiter was very attentive. We ordered a caesar salad and nachos to share and loved it. We also ordered two quesadillas and they were delicious. Overall, great place which I highly recommend!

  • Pros: Mojitos, Service, Taste, Outdoor Garden

Enjoyable, but best for a relaxed meal

by suzieq82

I've been here for drinks/light dinner with a coworker several times and also once for brunch and most of the time, I have a pretty good time. The service in inconsistent - I've never had horrible service, but sometimes they can be a little slow. The food is pretty good - I especially like the shrimp crisps. It's definitely more upscale than most Mexican food that I've had and it's generally a lighter feel than most of the heavy, greasy food you usually find in Mexican restaurants. They use a lot of seafood, so it seems almost like Cuban or Puerto Rican cuisine.

The terrace outside is very nice during the spring/summer months and I've never had to wait for a table.

The brunch menu is different from lunch/dinner menu and I probably would not recommend Mojave for brunch--menu is rather limited and doesn't have much in the way of more "brunch-y" fare, but it is great for relaxed drinks with friends. It's also a larger restaurant, so I imagine they could handle a large group fairly easily.

  • Pros: drinks, relaxed ambience
  • Cons: service can be a little slow

Best brunch around

by beppeG

We walked into this restaurant on sunday brunch not really expecting much but came out with the best dining experience we had ever had. Since we only had a party of three we decided to sit at the bar and were greeted by a very nice guy bartender. The bartender over heard us talking about tequilas and recommended the infused tequila on their drink menu. It was not that expensive and the taste of the triple-berry tequila was worth every penny. Not too long after, our order of the hamburger and fries as well as the salmon taco came. The burger was EXCELLENT and the fries were the best all of us had ever tasted. Although the portions of tacos could have been larger (my boyfriends eats like a pig) it was really filling. We all walked away with the best dining experience we had ever had and although there have been some bad reviews, look forward to going back. Mojave really did an excellent job.

  • Pros: friendly service
  • Cons: bar is hidden

This is NOT a place to go for mexican food.

by parisgreen04

Horrible, slow, incompetent service. The chips on the table were limp, the salsa beyond mild. The food was undercooked and under flavored. Way to pricey for the area. If you are looking for good Mexican...keep walking, don't waste your money or time here.

  • Pros: Lovely decorations, Not busy and could seat us right away.
  • Cons: Bad food, poor service.

Good but not Great...

by astorianewbee

I feel like I want to like this place more than I actually do. I've been here 3x & had more or less the same experience every time. Food is okay, but nothing spectacular. I've been to the West Village location (Agave) a couple of times as well & would say it's about the same, but the menus are slightly different. So far my favorite thing here is the queso fundido & the fried goat cheese salad. The quesadillas are pretty bland :( The one area where they do have most places beat is the frozen margarita selection...probably the best I've ever had. Oh, & the service is pretty good too.

  • Pros: interesting variety of frozen margaritas
  • Cons: bland food

The ambience was great but the food not so much

by xodas130

We went on a Thursday evening because they advertise "complimentary margarita with meal". However, the prices are a bit steep and the food not so great (which makes the free margarita not worth it). We just opted for appetizers and beer.

There was live music and the place was packed. It is an ok place

  • Pros: ambience and live music
  • Cons: expensive and bad food

Great food Great service

by James11105

I've been walking by this place for about a 3 months since i've moved to this neighborhood and i thought it looked a little to trendy for me so i finally gave it a shot this weekend. The food was terrific the service was great . The staff was so attentive The tequila section even better. the only thing i didnt like was the crabmeat rolls they were a little on the lite side. The fajitas were more than i can eat i ended up taking it home and having it for lunch and went back there for dinner. One of the best burgers i've evr had and the spice they put on the fries I will definately be back for more

  • Pros: Food , service
  • Cons: None that i can see
