Sakae Sushi - Bad Singapore 'Japanese' restaurant

by SNY

They ran out of business has nothing to do with the economy. The food at Sakae Sushi is horrible. They didn't do anything right for the New York market... weird menu, bad service etc. I heard they do well in Singapore. I think Singaporeans don't know how Japanese food taste like... sad.

Good serene enviroment and affordable meal

by pastaaroma

I went there to have lunch fortnight ago and was delighted and surprised to see Japanese food price at such reasonable price. There were many varieties of sushi and I have tried the mayo crabstick, salmon, avocado wraps, belly tuna, etc....The salmon pieces was not stingy ,it came in thick slices and fresh too!.

The interactive computer menus was a breeze and easy to use.food arrives pretty quick . I have a serene afternoon and enjoyable meal there. Will certainly come back for more!!!

So much fun

by nygirl243

If you're really looking for the best sushi in manhattan, this is not the place to go. However, having been to plenty of sushi places, I'm not always looking for the best-- this place was definitely the funnest! My little brother is a fan of "sushi-go-round" on miniclip so he asked me to find conveyor belt sushi and it was the cutest place honestly for a fun lunch. Happy hour is mon-fri 4-7pm and the $1.90 pates are only a $1! So no, it's not going to be the best sushi you ever had but there are a lot of good rolls! The screen was also a fun concept and we ordered plenty.

The address is slightly misleading though, that's the address for the Chrysler building and if you enter it you won't get anywhere fast-- it's actually ON 43rd street, crossing with Lex.

Anyhow, it's very futuristic and fun. A nice change for sure.

  • Pros: FUN conveyor belt, Can order from a screen, Futuristic Atmosphere
  • Cons: Hard to find, Not the best sushi ever but good enough for a fun lunch

Good For What it is!

by boyacasha

This is a decent Sushi spot. It's not the nbets in the city, but hey it's cheap. And worth every penny. The atmosphere is totally futuristic and cool. Your crazy to not at least try it. I like the tea too. Shoot. Like all other sushi eat wasabi!

DON'T GO!!!

by WiParker

The sushi at Sakae sushi is small and disgusting. The rolls were not original at all. They didn't have any flavor at all. The place did not even have sweetener for their bland green tea. DO NOT GO HERE. Down the street here are plenty of other nice places. STAY AWAY FROM SAKAE SUSHI!!!!

Willy Wonka would approve of this Midtown Japanese chain that rolls out sushi on conveyor belts.

Subpar

by mr_meursault

From the outside this place looks similar to sushi conveyer places in Japan, but don't be fooled. The food on the conveyer rides around for hours and is utterly unappetizing. The space is uncomfortable. The computer order system is a good idea, but it took a very long time to get our food, even though the place was empty. Many of the rolls weren't made with the proper ingredients. The wasabi was stale. You name it, and it went wrong. Even the tea was lukewarm at best. I have to say that on the plus side, the tuna and salmon nigiri were fresh, if not particularly tasty. I would say that while some pieces of sushi tasted bad, others were slightly above average. Overall, though, given the number of good sushi places in the city, this place was a waste of time and money. It is a novelty act ? nothing more.
