JUMPING JOYFUL JAVA

super coffee experience . i was not expecting one as original, these beans coudn't be any fresher.. my suggestion is to try the new store in the west village as they roast their beans there first and found out that they then get them to the orchard street location -- but just until their new javabot arrives. i was impressed especially after reading the two recent reviews as i had heard from friends it was a roast to boast about.!
Definitely not the place to go.

I went by it today and there wasn't a roaster. Turns out, they no longer roast their own coffee. Don't go there, not worth the effort.
What a disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything about this place is wrong. I heard from a friend that it was good, but then I went there. What a disaster. I asked for the "roasting plant blend". It turns out the big company in Jersey that owns this place hadn't delivered it yet. They claim that they "roast their own coffee". Nonsense. The girl behind the counter complained that they didn't have a roaster so they couldn't roast there own coffee. This is a good place to miss. What a disaster.
A gem in a sea of crud

I can't get over how fantastic this coffee is! I never write reviews and this coffee moved me to the point of actually writing one (maybe cause I was so hopped up on caffeine! ;)! I went in there and the staff was so helpful and knowledgeable - you could just tell they have a passion for the brew. I come from a long line of coffee lovers - my family in the US only drink espresso sent by my other relatives from Italy. They have tried coffee from the US and have always been disappointed until I hooked them up with a cup from this place. I purchased the coffee beans at this spot and now make it every morning and my snobbish coffee relatives always ask for this "Roasting Plant" coffee whenever they come over! Thanks so much - you guys have provided me with the smoothest cup of joe and a nice alternative to my daily espresso love affair! :D
- Pros: everything but the seating situation
- Cons: no where to sit
Good espresso, fun shop

Great place for a fresh, strong cup of java. The 2001 like modular design and pneumatic tube coffee bean distribution (go see it!) are cool, but I do wish it were ever so slightly more easy to hang out there.
- Pros: Good, strong espresso. Good service and cool, space age design.
- Cons: Spartan space age design, not a comfy hangout! (Not what they're there for, accepted.)
Better coffee through science is the order of the day at this high-tech Lower East Side coffee shop.

In Short
Mike Caswell, a former engineer and Starbucks executive, is the inventor of the café's unique Javabot system. It basically works like this: An employee presses all of the factors (type of bean, serving size, etc.) into a touchscreen, which prompts beans to be sucked from their containers through a system of pneumatic tubes to the grinder, where they are automatically turned into a fresh cup of coffee or espresso. The advantage of all of this Jetsons-esque technology is a consistent brew, no wasted beans and fresher coffee.
