Wonderful & Cozy

by Caroldj

If you are looking for a wine tasting experience or want a glass after a long day, Nectar provides the perfect atmosphere. I now want something like this in the Bronx!

The Experience

by twzhr

Once entered and sat at the bar, no welcoming. Male bar staff was rude, poor attitude, who harassed us for a tip.

The panini's were burnt and brought out with expectancy for us to eat. Now this male bar staff stood and watched us as we complained about the food being burned. The panini's were returned to the kitchen and then another male comes from the kitchen with hat tilted to the side with a negative disposition. Now this male is confronting other staff about who and why the food was sent back. We sit there expecting the panini's to be prepared the right way. However, menus were tossed on bar and we were told to order some cheese or something because there were no more panini's. OK, so now we just go with the chicken meatballs that were served COLD!!

We received the bill and only paid the bill. NO TIP WAS GIVEN!

This was supposed to be a NICE girls' night out in the city...never again to the wine bar!

  • Pros: The red wine was FANTABULOUS!
  • Cons: service, food, and attitude

Great spot!

by BlueSkySmiles

I am loving Nectar! It's a great spot for a drink with the girls or a drink with my man. I enjoy the atmosphere, which is chic but not overdone. There is enough space to kick back a little yet the overall vibe is really fun. I'm learning to love wine and I enjoy the selections at Nectar. When I am feeling adventurous, the wait staff gives me suggestions which has really helped to expand my wine pallet. Also, the servings are robust and are poured table side, so you really feel like you are getting a good portion and a nice experience for your money. I've sampled the food as well, which is tasty and nicely presented. Last time I was there I had the chicken meatballs, which had a nice spicy flavor and paired well with the various red wines on the menu. Overall, I recommend Nectar. It's a great spot and it keeps getting better.

  • Pros: Great wine selection, cool atmosphere, friendly and welcoming!

Crude and Incompetent Service

by WalkYellow

After thorough consideration of how we could have offended, it became clear that the unprovoked rudeness of both bartenders at Nectar was a hallmark of nearly all staff that night. Apart from the chef who came from the kitchen to offer us water after an hour untended, our first bartender brought out a NZ pinot noir when asked for wines from the Loire Valley. When we requested a substitute he said "That's not what you said. Now you want me to change them?" as if it were to be some monumental task. This followed by a similarly sloppy female staffer who refused to serve us a 2nd happy hour drink after ordering a first on a 2-for-1 special. We were told that because the tactless bartender "didn't care" she would give us our drink but we shouldn't expect this treatment on our next visit. Hopefully others won't be subjected to these incompetencies and we surely won't be returning. With such an inviting interior and the promise of a new neighborhood hangout, I'm genuinely disappointed to find that Nectar's poorly managed front of the house has proven to be such unprofessional trash.

  • Cons: Completely unprofessional and inappropriate service

Cool Harlem Wine Bar

by knocks

Great wine bar and addition to the Uptown night life. Have been several times for afterwork drinks, weekend drinks with friends and dates. Nectar fits the bill for all of em. Great wine selection and decent bottled beer selection. Vibe is cool with just loud enough music at night. Service is good...not great...but I have never received poor service in my many trips here. If you are looking for a place to meet with friends, take a date, or just chill with your own glass and meet some cool people Nectar is a great pick.

  • Pros: Crowd
  • Cons: Typical NY Pricey

Great addition to Harlem

by stephre

I just wanted to drop a note after I read the last review. I'm sorry and actually surpised she experienced a bad time when she visited. I have visited Nectar a couple of times, and was always pleased with the staff and service.

It's very rare to find substantial hangout spots in Harlem for young professionals, and challenging to find one which provides great service. I also love going to Harlem Vintage which is next door. The staff is bright, and friendly so I was delighted to see the wine bar open. The decor is nice, the staff is good looking, as well as the clientele. Keep up the good work! We need more places like this.

  • Pros: good selection of wines, ambiance and location
  • Cons: gets crowded.

Lovely

by mambobabi

My best friend and I stopped over at Nectar on a Friday at 5:30. We had to be somewhere within the hour and didn?t have much time to spare. It was sweltering out and Nectar was like a little oasis. The decor is lovely; warm and friendly, though still modern and chic. Loved the Viognier - it was a perfect choice for a warm summer evening. The staff seems very knowledgeable, but not pretentious. Because of the time constraint, I didn't have an opportunity to try the charcuterie, but I'm planning on it next time. Harlem definitely needs more places like Nectar.

A sleek, modern and entirely unpretentious wine bar that's worth the trip uptown.

by Lucy Blatter

In Short
This swank Harlem wine bar features about a dozen tables and a large rectangular bar where patrons can sit back and enjoy an array of hand-picked wines and small plates. Each item on the menu comes with a full description--like one wine, which is said to have a "deceptively delicate texture, with layers of strawberries and roses"--and foods are listed with wine-pairing suggestions. If that's not enough, the knowledgeable and friendly staff is always willing to point you to the right taste, glass or bottle of vino.

Hits: Music is loud but not too loud, the decor is clean and modern, and the wine selection is unique.

Misses: Regulars may tire of the food menu, which is limited to charcuterie, "old and new world cheeses," hummus, bread and chocolates.
