Great sound, great space, great music
by AWongTime
I have been here 5 times over the last few months and seen some of the best shows I've seen in awhile. (Particularly Sebastien Tellier) The sound is great, the staff is friendly, and they have really great taste in music.
I was also here for a friend's birthday in the cool bar next door and they treated us great (she got a free bottle for her friends to enjoy.)
I highly recommend this spot. Nice yo have great live music back in the Village
- Pros: great music, great drinks
- Cons: crowded
awesome sound, good drinks, amazing bands

i went to le poisson rouge for the first time ever to see school of seven bells and fujiya and miyagi awhile back, and have to say, it was one of the best shows i've seen in a long time. i showed up early to buy a ticket because i knew it would sell out and while we waited for the doors to open we sat in the bar and had some of the best cocktails i've had in a music venue. despite looking like a williamsburg hipster who could care less, the bartender was friendly and attentive. the show itself was great, and even though it was packed, the security staff were polite and organized. we had to wait a while to get drinks at the bar because the show was sold out, but the waitstaff wasn't frazzled at all and served us with a smile. the sound was amazing, school of seven bells sounded perfect and almost outdid fujiya and miyagi. finally, there's a new club that puts on great shows with awesome indie bands that doesn't serve flat beer or crappy shot-and-a-PBR combos.
- Pros: great concerts, friendly staff, accessible neighborhood
- Cons: crowded bar
AVOID THIS PLACE IT *UCKS & *LOWS
by aaaapcasper
This place *LOWS they are so unorganized you would believe they never ran a club before. the guest list is a joke!!! on a napkin and scratching off names with a crayon!!! what idiot hired these dummies!!! and that idiot oriental chick i think she's a promoter or manager think her name JANICE or JUSTINE holy #rap what an idiot instead of running or promoting anything she should be riding in the back seat of a little yellow bus with a helment. dont waste your time with this place spend your money somewhere else!!!!! you will definitely enjoy yourself some where else. and this is for the club owner get a new staff and definitely fire that oriental chick she is a real *umbass and a *itch.
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: MANAGER/PROMOTER JANICE/JUSTINE
something NEW and REFRESHING in NYC!
by livingtheGOODlife
this place is awesome!!! i have been going to bars and clubs for years now and i am constantly bored and unimpressed. NOT with this place! there is nothing else like it that i know of... anywhere. it is sophisticated, alluring, inspired.... and not to mention.... they have amazing art (chuck close!). the staff is wonderful & friendly and the concert calendar continues to impress me! i don't know personally, but i've heard the food is delicious, too. if you are living here or just visiting and looking for something totally OUT OF THE ORDINARY... this is the place to be! i will definitely be back!
- Pros: events, staff, decor
- Cons: sometimes overcrowded
WORST VENUE EVER! HATE THIS PLACE!!
by blahblah106
THIS IS THE WORST VENUE EVER!!!
Bought reasonably priced tix to see SEBASTIEN TELLIER there, the site said doors open at 10:30PM. Got there at 10:45 only to wait outside on line in the cold rain for over an hour!!! The line was not even moving, the bouncers were just letting all the VIP trust fund babies in first! By 11:50 I was soaked and had frostbite and could not take it and went home.
NEVER AGAIN - DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!
- Pros: Cheap Tickets
- Cons: PRETENTIOUS, unorganized, makes patrons wait online outside in rain for 2 hours
Great Club on Bleecker Street
by scatone
Great club on Bleecker street! I had a great time with 3 of my friends that I brought with me this past Saturday. The music was off the hook, the drinks and bartenders were great, and the staff was cool. Even though you know how clubs can be with bouncers, they were fine. I will be coming back, fun spot to meet people, dance, and drink! Did I mention the music was really good? It was awesome.
- Pros: Music, Atmosphere
- Cons: None really, my experience was great
lame management, act 2hrs late!
by genreless
came for sia and jd sampson tonight to go on 11pm. paid cover...and then at 1:30am we were tired of waiting. totally willing to absolve establishment from resposibility and decide that the girls had some real roadblocks. WELL, le poisson...still in their freshman impressionistic period, DIDN'T GIVE A TEENIE DOO DOO. when we decided to go after the ridiculous wait, and wanted the $10 refund. Nope, they were not willing and also quite rude.
BTW, kindess flowed from us in the refund request., but an unfortunate bad scene resulted because of their response. too bad- so much opportunity for new artists to grow there.
- Cons: disrespectful management
Musicologists rejoice, as this Noho performance venue and art space brings the renaissance of revelry to the 'hood.
by Laura Norkin
In Short
Black and red may be an overused motif at this sprawling live music venue/ art gallery/ bar--from the tattoo-style ceiling stencils to the baroque throne-like seats to the church pews--but somehow it works. Elements of kitsch keep it relatable (think foam tables and fake flickering candles), while bowls of peanuts invoke a neighborhood feel. The owners urge that (L)PR isn't a nightclub; it's a classical music-focused venue meant to bring the spontaneity back to art and the substance back to nightlife. Tag-team bookers ensure a mix of musical genres grace the stage on any given night, be it classical or jazz, indie rock or hip-hop.
Hits: (L)PR is all about accessibility. Concerts cost, but there's no cover to get into the side carriage bar, which is also uber-cool, pumping out eclectic jams from Manu Chao to Nirvana.
Misses: Seating arrangements vary in the listening room; sometimes 200 chairs are set up in rows, at other times it's standing-room only, causing some patrons to awkwardly squat on the floor pre-show.
