Very comfortable place to have a few drinks
by Mike 10009
It's getting more and more difficult to find a place where ten bucks can get you a couple of drinks incl. tip. Here, a generous shot of Evan Williams & a can of Genesee sets you back the mighty sum of $ 4.00. I prefer going in the afternoon or early evening, as the daytime crowd is a bit more mature, in age...anyway. There's always the possibility of participating in some lively conversations. The eclectic music mix is never overpowering, and the bartenders are cool with you bringing in food from the outside.
Good For A Laugh
by James79
If you want a good laugh go to this place when "Mollie" the drag queen is behind the bar. He'll treat you to hot tempered right wing political lecture in a voice than can only be described as "E.T."
Otherwise avoid this claustrophobic bar that features loud conversation and drowned out music.
A venerable East Village dive is revived as a cozy neighborhood hangout serving couple-buck beers with a side of sass.
by Joshua M Bernstein
In Short
When good-'n-grimy International Bar shuttered in 2005, liver-hardened lushes and crusty punks shed tears in their beer. But now they're celebrating, as East Village locals Shawn Dahl and Molly Mulholland Fitch have restored the saloon to its former inebriating glory. Though the bricks and graffiti have been scrubbed clean, the booze remains dangerously affordable: A motley mix of artists, activists and old-school downtowners toss back Yuengling pints ($4), house cocktails ($4) and $2 Schaefer cans like it's water.
Hits: You'll be pleased as punch to spend just $10 to drink for hours, listen to righteous rock tunes and converse with an assortment of East Village characters.
Misses: The bartenders tend to operate at a glacial pace. Also, curb your classy cocktail urges, because drinks here don't get much fancier than whiskey on the rocks.
