A gem to be discovered

by rbj221

Dear myny2009,

please get over it and give Allegretti another chance, it sounds like tou walked in already with a negative impression.

This is one of the culinary gems in New York, and each time we go we enjoy it tremendously,

Way to go team Allegretti!

Not worth it

by myny2009

We went for lunch yesterday - the dining room was empty except for a party of two... the owner and chef was sitting/chatting in the back - they GLARED at us as we walked in and sat down (I guess since we walked in at the end of lunch service?). Should have taken the hint and left right then and there - The meal was over salted. Would never dine here again. Especially after getting death-stared by the owners ..Why bother? Drop your money elsewhere where the food and service is better and you feel welcomed as a customer.

Good Food, Good Servers..Not kid/family friendly

by AingeeC

My husband and I wanted to try a new place to celebrate our 9th Wedding Anniversary. We wanted our 2 boys to share the celebration with us, so we brought them along. Everything was going pretty smoothly; appetizers and our kids' orders came quickly, food was good and the servers were attentive and friendly. After the first course, my little one got a little feisty and let out a couple of short shrieks. Because the dining area is quite intimate and pretty quiet, the sudden sound surprised a few. There was one nasty older lady who sat with a male friend in a corner table (I hope you are able to read this) who turned around and made a gesture suggesting that she is annoyed and that she is trying to eat. That was the first shock of my evening. The next thing I know, I see one of the managers/partners in front of our table glaring at us. I was quite upset at that point and decided to step out for some air. As I was leaving the restaurant, I over heard the gentleman manager/partner talking with Sarah (restaurant manager). I saw that Sarah was trying to explain why we were even IN the restaurant!! We are paying customers, trying to enjoy our dinner, that's why! Before this whole incident, we really did enjoy the evening. I can't believe that this had totally ruined my Anniversary. I was so upset, I was unable to eat my entree (the Chatham Cod, which looked delicious) and decided it was time for us to leave. It is too bad that such a great establishment has such discriminating (lonely and sad) diners and staff...

  • Pros: Good Food, Servers were attentive and caters to our needs
  • Cons: Majority of diners are older and nasty

FABULOUS MEDITTERANEAN FARE IN A RELAXING SETTING

by kimikoo

I have dined at Allegretti several times and each time the chef never fails to impress me with his unique flavor combinations. His product is fresh and delicious and the restaurant is earthy yet classy and comfortable. If you have been to the South of France, you need to dine at Allegretti for a trip down memory lane.. Highly recommended.

  • Pros: Fresh unique ingredients
  • Cons: Expensive

An unreconstructed French restaurant from former Le Cirque chef Alain Allegretti.

by Josh Ozersky

In Short
Allegretti makes no concessions, in either decor or food, to current fashions. In fact, it makes no concessions to the current decade. This is very traditional nicoise fare, served in an elegant but somewhat unexciting room reminiscent of any number of midtown restaurants from the 1970s. The food, which centers on standards like provencal fish stew, seared Mediterreanean rouget, and magret of duck, won't surprise anyone with its novelty, but will likely please diners looking for that old-school French approach.
