Worst Hotel I've been to

by carohere

Can't we give a ZERO star rating?????

I understand that New York hotels are supposed to be small, but this was ridiculous. The hotel's website should be banned for false advertisement.

The room smelled like sewage, the windows didn't close properly (my stay was during a snow storm!), the room was quite old, and the front desk was TERRIBLE! The hotel's employees are unfriendly and they seem quite depressed (somewhat how the room made us feel).

Also, the website had a special of free breakfast at the restaurant next door and the front desk girl (named Daniela) did not fix the problem and was rude on top of it all.

Don't be fooled. The room/hotel is NOT worth it.

  • Pros: Nothing
  • Cons: Front desk, Room size, not clean, just about everything.

Shady Employees

by rl80

I was extremely disappointed with my stay. First of all the hostesses behaved as if they are doing you a favor when checking you in. My husband and I stayed at Thirty Thirty on our way out of the country for a 3-week vacation. We had three very large suitcases, which none of the staff offered to assist us with. We saw several bellmen standing around, but no one helped us. We have stayed at the W, Westin and other upscale hotels in the city as well as Best Westerns and midlevel hotels so I understand you get what you pay for. To be fair it is clean and good enough if you don?t intend to spend much time in your room. However I will never stay there again. One of the bellmen offered to arrange a car to take us to the airport and took a $10 "deposit" from us in order to secure a car, he told us it would be $60. He also accepted a tip from my husband for arranging the service. The car that came would have been fine if the driver didn't show up with his young child. My husband and I had to squeeze in the back seat with a huge suitcase leaning on top of us. Once we got to the airport the driver told us we owed him $60. We told him about the $10 deposit and he said he knew nothing about a deposit. I was very irritated. They have a bunch of shady, dishonest people working there. This is the type of experience you'd expect in some third world country. Not in New York City. If you are looking to save some money but don?t want to get cheated keep looking.

Horrible hotel, waste of money!

by acg580

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The price is not good compared to what little you are getting. The rooms are very small and most dont have A/C. The day I checked in I saw a rodent run from underneath one room door, across the hall, and right into the next room. The service was terrible. Management does not care and is just as rude as the rest of the employees.

Don't Count on internet or preferences!

by misscrf

I booked with expedia. They claimed that they faxed my preferences twice, and the hotel claims that they didn't get them. I was moved to three different rooms, as the internet did not work in the second room. The third room had a shaky cat 5 cable, and I kept getting disconnected from the internet. Not good when trying to complete time sensitive work on a trip. Good thing there was a close startbucks.

Anyway, they made up for the internet by not charging me, but after repeated requests to have the bad cable changed, it never was. Only one person working the desk during check, with a line of tourists wanting help with tourist activities. Not exactly business travel friendly.

  • Pros: nice room, faces emp st building, good location
  • Cons: internet lousy, bad rspns to rqsts, small rooms

Great value in Mid-Manhattan

by jelger

I love this place. Been here twice. It is rather sparse decorated, but doesnt feel cheap - Quality materials. Modern. Great service, really [well, to me it was ~ once a free upgrade]. Flexible. and best of all, great Deli's around the corner and perfect location for Asian [korean/japan] food, and entertainment. times square, macy's in walking distance if you dont mind a mile. I'd recommend it. few can beat this place for 100 bucks range.

  • Pros: Service, Location, Price (for Manhattan)
  • Cons: Std Rooms are small, No (art)decoration rm

Great for holidays

by jess2002

Though not nearly as luxurious as it claims to be on its website, Thirty Thirty is a great option for a holiday traveller to NY who doesn't want to blow all their cash on a hotel room. Clean, cheap, friendly, very comfortable beds and all in a great location.

I'll make it "my hotel"

by dearborn76

The clerk was friendly and helpfull, they led me on how to enjoy the city. Althoug the room was "weird" (sink next to the bed) was perfect for what I needed (just some hours of rest). The location is the best you'll save a lot in transportation because tours, buses and/or metro are steps away. I really enjoyed it, and I'll enjoy it again.

  • Pros: inexpensive, well located, clean

Room not ready, but fine for the money.

by nycgirl2002

We requested early check-in and when we called to confirm reservation, we were told they'd do their best to accomodate us and that rooms would be ready no later than 3pm. When we arrived at 3:30pm, the room was not ready (of course), but at least they agreed to hold our bags while we wandered around the sweltering city, waiting for our room to be cleaned so that a cool shower could be had. There was renovation work still being done on our floor, but we did not have a single noise issue, from within OR outside the hotel. The hotel itself is sparse -- basic and no-frills (few staff at the front desk, no bar or restaurant, no hairdryer). As long as all you need is a room (10 x 10), working AC and a shower, this place is clean and perfectly servicable. At $100/night, a good budget-range option.
