Sitting on here now finishing the sausage egg and cheese empanadas. Pretty tasty and not too highly priced. However, the drinks are what eat at your wallet. Water was $2.28. Uh...seriously?
what a great find! delicious, healthy and reasonably priced

I like empanada joes. I had their cheese steak and pulled pork empanada the other day. These empanadas seem to be toasted through this conveyor belt oven while you wait . When I got mine they were hot and flaky, the pulled pork was very tender and flavorful and the chessesteak was really delicious. I don't see how that empanada could be only a 160 calories (oh yeah, they hand you these calorie cards) Anyway I really liked my empanadas and for around 7 bucks I got these two empanadas along with the delicious pasta salad and potato salad plus a pepsi.
If your like me and sick of greasy looking stores selling greasy food check out EJ's.you be glas you did.
Decent Empanadas, Good Snack

First off, these are not the BEST empanadas you will have in New York. But they're by no means BAD! I had the chorizo, beef, and tomato/basil and all were just fine. As for some idiotic comments below... You should know empanadas aren't Mexican (they're made almost everywhere in Latin America) and they also aren't SUPPOSED to be fried, that's just one way of cooking them. For example in Argentina you will have quite a hard time finding any fried empanada, they are all baked (which is healthier for you anyway). Also these aren't SMALL empanadas, they are normal sized. If you want a huge calzone go to an Italian restaurant.
Prices are kind of high, but not crazy considering you're in midtown.
I say try it out!
- Pros: Flavor, Cleanliness
- Cons: Price
Disappointing

You have to be either rich or completely out of your mind to eat at this place. Empanadas are over priced. Not worth it. I don't know what Empanada Joes folks were thinking when they wrote the business plan.
- Pros: Staff is nice, interior is great but the
- Cons: Food is terrible
I enjoyed my empanadas

They were fresh and tasty... why complain. It's still fast food. The place is new and clean, and the people are friendly when serving. I enjoyed my meal and it filled me up.. Nothing to complain about at all.. I'll eat there again when I'm in the mood for a quick emapanada
Not very good

I tried this place out on Tuesday. The service was fine and the place was nice, but the food left something to be desired. One reviewer said that this place was essentially selling "hotpockets", and honestly, I can't disagree with that. They aren't empanadas. Normally, I am very forgiving to fast food places like this because you pay for what you get and I would never expect even 3 star food, but this place charges $4 for one 'hotpocket' that isn't very large. That means I have to shell out about $15 just to get a full meal. Kind of a ripoff for even subpar fast food (Not to mention a box of hot pockets at the grocery store are around $5 for a box).
- Pros: none
- Cons: over priced, little portions
Worst place in the City

One word: Terrible
They give you a Hot Pocket and a cup of Frank's hot sauce. Worst yet, they charge almost $4 for an empanada the size of a grown mans thumb. You have to spend almost $20 to get a full meal. No thanks. That doesn't work for fast food. The worst part is that the empanadas aren't even authentic. They are supposed to be fried. I realize Empanada Joes is trying to be health-conscious, but you technically aren't getting what they claim to sell. Not to mention the food itself is bland and boring (microwavable Hot Pocket).
- Pros: Friendly Staff, Clean Store
- Cons: The Food is terrible and over-priced to the max.
best empanadas in the universe
by EmpanadaExpert
I know that the popular right-wing (some would say fascist) website Food and Pants has done a smear job on this place, but trust me, I have never had empanadas this good. EJ's uses the freshest ingredients sealed into a moistly delicious crescent-shaped shell which is perfect for people on the go. The shell itself is paper thin and toasted to flaky perfection. Fight the fascists, go eat at Empanada Joe's!
- Pros: Everything!
- Cons: None!
empanadas? yes, really!

La Lutin got just about everything wrong. It's Famous Famiglia, not La Famiglia, and it's located next to the newly opened Empanada Joe's, not across the street. More important, Empanada Joe's is a welcome addition to our neighborhood. I find many of their pastries quite tasty, especially the pulled pork and the Argentine beef. But then what do you want from someone who recommends Taco Bell or thinks that empanadas have to be Mexican?
