Citysearch Editorial Review

A miniscule lounge opens into a wide bar, which rests next to the dining area. Exposed brick and gleaming white chairs complete the narrow space’s tight-but-trendy look, befitting the Soho meets Holland Tunnel location. The food is similarly hip, with enough small plates on offer to make a diverse meal, including fried artichokes with rosemary aioli and truffled mac and cheese. Mains like the short rib burger (sourced from famed meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda) served on a Portuguese muffin and housemade “nudi” (naked ravioli with sauce and greens) appeal to neighborhood regulars looking for something more substantial to eat.
Great Night with Drunken Friends
by adroberts
Called about a week ago and reserved a super large table for 9pm a Sat night and they somehow accommodated us, and the waitress was hilarious and made jokes about us taking over, etc.. When we got there they had our pre-set menu and they sent out appetizers right away, all were quite good but I really loved the octopus, calamari, and Brazilian croquettes the chef made special for us to try (so they said). Cocktails were great, bartender was on top of things for our drink thirsty party and no BS.
All in all, fun night! I don't understand any bad reviews about these guys because the food/everything was great. Maybe the guy below me thought the restaurant was empty because they were holding our table? Will be back when I find myself in the area again.
- Pros: Food, Cocktails, Funny, Knowlegeable waitstaff
- Cons: West Side (I am east)
HUGELY DISAPOINTING
by barefootcount2
FLAVORLESS FOOD, ACROSS THE BOARD...
o CALAMARI & SHRIMP MISO...OVERFRIED AND BLAH. o LONG RIB -- DRIED OUT -- FLAVORLESS
o LAMB RAGU PASTA -- AGAIN, BLAH.
SERVICE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE BARTENDER, WAS FLAT, MECHANICAL, AND UNINSPIRIED. THE 'LOVELY' RECEPTIONIST ASHLEY, WHOM I MADE THE RESERVATION WITH, NEVER APPEARED TO INTRODUCED HERSELF WHEN WE ARRIVED. FULLY, 50% OF THE TABLES WERE EMPTY AND THEY MADE IT APPEAR AS THIGHT THEY DID US A FAVOR BY SEATING US. HA. OVERALL A REALLY BAD CHOICE. WOULD NOT RECEOMEND IT.
- Cons: SERVICE AND FOOD -- ONE STAR IS BEING KIND
Exquisite experience
by kelly1971
From the moment you step into 508 you feel welcome. The ambiance allows you to relax and enjoy the décor. The owners gracefully glide through the restaurant, offering personal attention to everyone with out being pushy. And Fredrick Hill has extensive knowledge on the collection of wines available, pairing them perfectly with the food.
There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout, even in the kitchen! Not too crowded and not too loud even for romantic dates. The food is surprisingly well priced and the taste and presentation is a testament to the chef’s love of creating perfection!
- Pros: A wonderful collection of fine wines and a delectable food m
Great Time Great Food
by Reedstickets
Me and my GF had a great time at this place. I was going back for a great night in the city after a little time off. Did not expect to get a table and did expect to wait an hour for a seat on a Sat evening without a Res.
They went out of their way to get us a seat. Both of us really enjoyed the food a lot, one of the best meals I have had in a long time but I am not a Manhattan foodie. A real unique taste to the food and a good job by the chef who you can clearly see and taste takes pride in his/her work.
The bartender was awesome and brought a true sense of what it means to be living and loving NYC and that is really what I loved about the entire experience. Maybe a bit off the lower Manhattan path for some but well worth the venture.
- Pros: Great Staff And Really Good Food
- Cons: Realy None
a nice evening
by trainakr
Our server (Grant?) was great and the food was very good. The croquettes and octopus were awesome, though the fettuccini with meatballs I wouldn't order again, it was average. The hostess though took a long time to seat us, despite the fact that it was early and the place was not nearly full. She was a bit offputting.
- Pros: food, wait staff
- Cons: hostess
awful delivery service
by marklemerise
the RUDEST delivery people. i went from ordering EVERY day and taking my entire team to business lunches and status meetings here, to never again stepping foot in. i do NOT need a pretentious host giving me attitude on the phone when i am ordering a 12 dollar salad. ruined the entire experience for me.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Best fries in city
by stefbour
This place has the best fries in the city - hands down - and is also good place to hang and eat small bites. We found it the other night. The food is like tapas, but we also had a lamb ragu with ricotta and mint that was perfect. Started with some fries and ended up eating our way through croquettes and then the ragu. The wine list is mostly Spanish and they have a lot of wines by the glass. We will be back!
- Pros: excellent food
- Cons: did not know it was there
508 is a MUST TRY...
by cmdavidson
I was lucky enough to get to try many of the dishes as I shared with others and tasted a lot of different things on the menu ? which was great because if I had to pick one dish on the menu that would have been hard. I loved the creative combination of flavors that truly came together perfectly. Blackened hanger steak with horseradish sauce (I am still craving), scallops over white beans with pancetta (holla) and miso glaze cod, round ravioli (nodi)? delish. And for dessert I had Spanish Churros dipped in hot chocolate sauce yum?and the music and atmosphere made it a great night for the group ? I will definitely go back or bring clients here!
- Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Private dining in a wine cellar (for parties/meetings),Service, location...
Great New Place to go for dinner with friends!
by TamaraCaavene
I just happened to walk by with my husband and see that the old Giorgione was newly reopened and is now called 508. It has new owners now, and the food was just fabulous when we went on thursday. We shared the octopus and the most tender pork belly, soooo good!! Then we tried the ravioli pasta (nudie??) and my husband splurged for the steak and it was gigantic and delicious! For dessert we had brownie and an interesting ice cream, I think it had rosemary in it, very different and I keep thinking about it. I recommend this place!
Next I would try the lunch!
