A new but old-fashioned Jewish deli on the Upper West Side.

by Josh Ozersky

There may be fewer classic New York delis every year, but the model isn't dead yet, at least if Lansky's has any say. A modern restaurant with an old soul, the place is slavishly dedicated to recreating the traditional flavors: piquant, moist pastrami on rye, big hot dogs, briny corned beef, chicken soup with matzo balls and even a whole Reuben menu. The place looks right, too, with tin ceilings, depression-era stained glass and an open kitchen where you can see your sandwich being sliced. Will it make anyone forget Katz's or the Carnegie Deli? Probably not. But so what? That's like saying that only Washington or Lincoln should be president.

Very delicious!

by supersol

I had dinner there this past weekend.....service, food and decor was great. Everything on the menu that my group tried was delicious. I especially enjoyed the dessert (my group had an animated argument over which dessert was the yummiest....they are all great but I particularly enjoyed the bread pudding).

The wait staff is charming, and the restaurant has been tastefully designed to exude an old world charm. I look forward to returning soon with my husband!

Best Deli In new York

by sharonwest999

I think that years ago the famed deli's in New York were great, but I also think that for the most part that they rest on their laurels. Well they better watch out because Lansky's has arrived on the scene, and this place in a few short months has surpassed the food in all the rest. I found the sandwiches to be oversized, juicy and delicious. Where Lansky's far surpasses the rest is with the food from the kitchen. The burger is the best in New York, and at under 6 buck, best bargin. The matzoh ball soup is great, thick with noodles, vegetables, chicken meat and two light, fluffy matzoh ball. The do a hot dog like no other, it is a foot long and deep fried. They offer it with a large variety of toppings, I tried jalapeno, chili, and cheddar, delicious and not for the faint of heart. I just love their macaroni and cheese, creamy and full of real cheese flavor. Save room for dessert, banana pudding is to die for. Last but not least, they actually have a really nice selection of wines by the glass, and unlike other deli's, the wines are really good and very fairly priced. Love Lansky's.

Its Cold Outside...And I found the Best Soup in Town!!!

by bettyz414

Its 16 degrees outside, and I am in serious need of hot soup to warm my bones. I headed over to Lansky's, a new "Jewish" style deli and picked up a quart of theri "Jewish penicilin", their matzoh ball soup is the best soup in the city, with no peers. It is thick with noodles, vegetables, chicken mear ( yes I said real chiciken meat!) and two large matzho ball. This soup really wamrs the heart, and the tummy too.

Everything I have tried here is great. The brunch has become the best on the Upper West Side. The burgers are as good as any in the city.

the best unsung dessert on the menu is the banana pudding, scrumptious!!!!

This place is warm and welcoming, and the prices are the best in the city, come to Lansky's....its like coming home.

  • Pros: Best Matzoh Ball in the City
  • Cons: Big...Big portions

UWS gem-place is great-had to say it!

by arisock

I'm embarrased to say, I go there 3-4 times a week. I had to write a review, my 1st ever-they are that good

The sandwiches are huge-juicy and cheap. You can make 2 sandwiches from one sandwich-ask for extra bread, they don't care if you share.

The burgers and hot dogs-their standouts. Again huge-10 oz burgers and foot long dogs-you have to get them both with cheese and pastrami bits (genius idea)

But I have to say, the shining star of the menu are the specials. The chicken potpie, meatloaf, short ribs, and chicken inapot are really really great.

The banana pudding, matzo crunch sundae and cheesecake standout as far as dessert goes-again-huge.

What makes this place my fave, combined with the great food, and location, is the attentive service. Everyone, host, manager, server, busboy, asked me how my meal is. Got me more coleslaw, napkins, water was always full...whatever I needed!

I hope they make it in this economy-really spectacular!

The Devil Dog!!!!

by mp4932

Love this place for many reasons; best matzoh ball soup in the city, great burger, but I had a dish the past evening they call a "Devil Dog". This a foot long hot dog that is deepfried. They offer many different toppings, i had it with sauteed jalapenos, chili and cheddar, wow!! This is sinful and delicious.

If you have room, try the strawberry cheesecake, finish with a cup of coffee, it is like going to heaven.

  • Pros: Great Hot Dog, Great Cheesecake

New Neighborhood Staple

by randywesq

The UWS has a new favorite, one that will feed you for all meals. I have had all three meals here and it is the best. In fact the weekend brunch has become the place to be and seen. It seems that everyone knows each other, great fun. The regular menu offer the best burger in the city. The matzo ball soup makes all other look sick. The pastrami on rye is huge and under 10 buck a great bargin. The rice pudding is very tasty. The epresso is as good as any Italian joint. Dont feel like going out, they offer very good delivery. Where have you been all my life Mr. Lansky?

  • Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive Prices

Genuine Food...Genuine Prices

by maryred198

I have made this new deli my favorite watering hole. Food is great, the portions are very large, so I love that they have added a half sandwich and soup, love it. Burger is one of the best in the city, and for under 6 bucks, just ridiculous. Soups come in giant bowls, heart warming and delicious. The hot dog is foot long and deep fried, they call it a "devil dog", they come with many topping< bring all your friends to see this one! You can takeout items at the deli counter, the whole rotisserie chicken with a pound of side is 12.95, best bargin in the city. They recommend the banana pudding, great choice, but dont miss the cheesecake, wow!

Great New Neighborhood Secret

by mrothstein454

This deli opened in my neighborhood a few weeks ago, and unlike many new openings, there was no pre-press, no hype, and boy did the press miss a good one. This place is great. The decor is fabulous, the staff is very friendly and accomodating. The place is downright cheap!! And best of all the food is terrific. I read alot of press about Shake Shack and like many other people, waited on line for above decent burger, much hype. Here I had a burger that rivals any in the city. Huge, juicy and delicious. And for under 6 bucks unreal. The matzo ball soup is terrific, full of noodles, vegetables, matzo ball and real chicken meat! The sandwiches are huge and terrific. Don't miss the free cole slaw.I have been back several times, and taken food out twice, everything was great. I am reluctant to tell everyone about this, I want to keep it all to my self.

  • Pros: Great Burger, Best Matzo Ball Soup, Great Takeout
  • Cons: Really Big Portions!!

Wish This was in My Neighborhood

by rosiemom

I met a freind in a new restaurant that was around the corner from her apartment. It was so good that I thinking about moving. Everything I had was delicious, and soooo cheap!!! It is cheaper to eat here than to cook at home. The matzoh ball soup (a deli must) was amazing. I had a burger, I know, that's not real deli, but it was just the best. Huge, juicy and wonderful. The true test of a burger is if you need more than one napkin, I needed four!!! Leave room for dessert, so many choices. I never write reviews, but I had to tell everyone about this place.

  • Pros: Wonderful, Cheap, Huge Portions
  • Cons: Huge Portions, Bad for my waistline
