DMANBURGER "L'ARTUSI"

by DMANBURGER , Citysearch Contributor

Owner Joe Campanale’s staff welcome's you with smiles and ambitious excitement that you are about to dine at L’Artusi. You're swept through the bar into the dining room, subtlety decorated with multi colored banquettes and blank white wooden chairs. A choice of low or high perched stool seating is available which, it seems, is strategically placed to catch all the action of a bustling cucina. Chef Gabriel Thompson rewards diners with a simple, yet rustic menu-with highlights consisting of Crudo [Fluke with Kumquats, Frisee and Argumato; a myriad of inventive pasta selections; and a magnificent succulent Roast Chicken-with Hen of the Woods [wild mushrooms] sopping in its own lovely juices. This tender breast covered with a crusty bark of caramelization, goes perfectly with the crisp buttery potatoes [offered on the Contorni], that are generously dolloped with an earthy Salsa Verde.-“I can’t imagine any other roast chicken in the city tasting better”, I gasped to my fellow diners. An encyclopedia of varietals impresses even the expert vino cognoscente.

  • Pros: Roast Chicken
  • Cons: can be busy

Terrific!

by reneewhite

My fiance and I snagged this reservation from a colleague. It completely exceeded our expectations. The venison carpacchio, farfalle, and boar were phenomenal. The service was at least 4 stars. We really couldn't believe how outstanding this restaurant was.....We will be back!!!!!!

  • Pros: Fabulous food, reasonable prices, and amazing service

by timotheespitzer

please charge me $26 for a monkfish dish but not $18 for a sample!! Your MC sizes are absurd. Nice cheese selection and knowledgeable staff.

  • Pros: design and atmosphere
  • Cons: way over priced!

Tasty Dining with Nice Wine

by gripdxd

My friend learned of this place in an ad in the elevator at her job. Nice hostess and average prices. The waiters were friendly, helpful and patient as well as my friend was a few minutes late. The wine list is all italian so you need a sommelier for guidance, which we requested. He didn't steer us wrong and we loved our wine choice. We sat upstairs which was noisy, but we quickly forgot about it. It was also packed & jumping for a Wed. night. They do offer cheese, but I don't think it's a good value $6 for 1oz? I also hear they change their menu reguarly, so it offers variety. For dessert I had Gelati & Sorbet it was delicious and the perfect ending. Overall it was a very nice evening.

  • Pros: Sommelier, Wine List & Service
  • Cons: Noisy

Delicious food, loved the cheese bar and open kitchen!

by charlesnyc

Went to L'artusi last weekend and was very happy with my meal. We live a few blocks away so I'm always happy when something good opens up in the neighborhood. The pasta dish with chestnuts was delicious!

The hostess was very nice as was the waiter and they also had a separate wine sommelier type waiter come around. The prices are moderate and the dishes arent too big but filling.

Most of all I loved the downstairs area which included a cheese bar and open kitchen. We were seated upstairs which was a little better for private parties I think. Next time I'd request to sit downstairs. Definitely a worthwhile restaurant to try out.

  • Pros: food, excellent service, interesting menu for italian food
  • Cons: crowded bar area

The owners of beloved West Village trattoria Dell'Anima move to a bigger space on West 10th Street.

by Josh Ozersky

For diners who loved the often cramped, overheated confines of Dell' Anima, this spacious sequel will come as a happy surprise. One with a big open kitchen, a raw bar, a cheese counter and many more seats. The food is seasonal, rustic, casual Italian food with an emphasis on pastas and medium-sized plates for sharing. And the scope of the menu is wide, ranging from throwbacks like spaghetti and meatballs and fritto misto to out-there dishes like Wagyu beef tongue and tripe bruschetta. Everything is complimented by a superior wine list devoted to small-producer, regional varietal wines selected by partner Joe Campanale.
