Best Pilates in NYC
by craiginnyc at Citysearch
Katherine and Kimberly are fabulous, both as people and as business operators. The atmosphere at the studio is very positive and comfortable and the staff is well trained. It is a pleasure to work out here.
- Pros: Great atmosphere, great staff
- Cons: Pricey
Identical twins (and former Rockettes) team up to provide personal training and small group classes.

The Scene
Katherine and Kimberly Corp pooled their combined savings from shared stints on the Radio City kick line to found this site for the teaching of Pilates. The dancers' dual endeavor incorporates developments in biomechanics--an advancement you'll see with equipment that's markedly sleeker, safer and less akin to mini-torture chambers.
The Workout
Although the staff is eager to devise an exercise routine for groups of up to five, more than 60 percent of customers opt for one-on-one instruction. The use of props--especially foam blocks, therabands and a halved physioball called a bosus--is key to retraining muscles in terms of range of motion and flexibility. Similar to the old-school ways, however, you'll be continually reminded to pay attention to posture, pelvic placement and abdominal contraction.

The ambiance is amazing and the teaching very professional. The owner is well known in the industry having written the seminal books about Pilates. She is also well versed in body mechanics and was instructed as a physical therapist.
My favorite pilates

A great relaxed atmosphere with professional teachers and adults. You can absolutely get desired results in your body. Excellent teachers some of the ones I have worked with include: Matt and Abbey. I also got turned on to gyrotonics in this studio which is hard but fun. I would highly recommend it.

I have been coming to Pilates on Fifth for a while to tone up and lose weight. The instructors are knowledgable, nice and willing to work with you to customize a workout routine. Recently I've been taking the Cardiolates class and it's so much fun!! I recommend this class for anyone looking for group or private lessons.
- Pros: Instructors, friendly staff, modern equipment, clean
Do you want to get toned and feel great - try this place

After my son was born I needed to go back to an exercise program to tone up and feel better. I was a diehard Bikram Yoga person but found that when I returned after my pregnancy the yoga didn't help me loose weight or tone up. I decided to try Pilates on Fifth. I've never felt better! I no longer have back pain and my posture has improved. I actually feel taller. I have learned to engage my abs and strengthen my core, which was a challenge after having a very difficult cesarean section surgery to deliver my son. All of the instructors are fantastic and cater your workout to your needs and challenges. My favorite is Ron - he is motivating, challenging and knowledgeable along with being very charismatic. The hour workout flies by and I feel rejuvenated and every part of my body feels stronger and leaner> THANKS RON!!!!!!!

I tried Pilates on Fifth when a friend recommended it to me. As a former gymnast/athlete, I was determined to lose all of the weight I had gained during my pregnancy while at the same time toning and strengthening muscle. The results were immediate! I never felt better or have been so toned even after trying all of the other forms of exercising. I toned muscles I never knew I had! I get bored working out but not here! Every day is something new. To make it even better, Kimberly and Katherine and all of the trainers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They always do their best to work around my schedule and baby sitting issues. The facility is comfortable, noncompetitive, relaxing, etc. I cannot say enough. I highly recommend Pilates on Fifth!
- Pros: very knowlegable, friendly, relaxing atmosphere
- Cons: NONE
the best pilates studio EVER!!!!
by nataliah at Citysearch
I have beent to many studios around the country and this is by far the best one.
What makes them soooo different from the rest of the studios, is the knowledge that the instructors have.
The also have new classes and new ways of exercising all the time so you never get bored.
They have a new program called CARDIOLATIES the I highly recommend to everyone. Its a great and fun way to add cardio to your pilates workouts.
- Pros: perfect
- Cons: only one location

The instructors are knowledgeable, motivating and judging from the variety of people there, very skilled at catering to many different clients. The atmosphere is friendly and non-intimidating. The first time I tried Pilates, I hated it, but at Pilates on Fifth, the instructors made it accessible to me and my weight lifting background.
