NEVER STAY AT CANDY HOSTEL!

by bbrazial

This hotel is now open again and it is TERRIBLE!

I was in NY in september 2009 and had a terrible experience at Candy Hostel, 315 West 94th Street .

Terrible service, dirty rooms, no towels and we were even threatened by the manager when we decided to leave the next morning and asked for our money back.

Even though me and my wife had a reservation and was there in time for the check in (I got in at midnight, but called two times ealier to confirm I was coming at that the time was ok), when I got to the reception, they said we would have to move rooms in the morning. Being late, we only asked if that meant we were going to either sleep one night on a worse room or the other way around. They said both rooms would be the same. We paid in advance for the nights we would stay in, as demanded, and went to the room. Getting there it looked nothing like what they did in the website pictures. It was dirty, dodgy looking and smelly. Not only that, the lock on the door was broken and they didn't have towell for us. I went down to try to fix this, but the man said there was nothing they could do to help, as they were out of towells anda that I should wait until the morning to solve all this Without any other option, we did. In the next morning, the manager wasn't there as promised to solve this. They recomended that we left the luggage in the luggage room, go out, and they would deliver it to our new room when we arrived. We didn't agree with that. It was enough hassle as it was to have to move instead of going out and enjoy the city and that we demanded the problem to be solved. Better yet, after this, we decided wanted our money back for the other nights and would leave the hotel. They said they couldnt do that, only the manager (who, remember, they promised would be there in the morning), could deal with that. For obvious reasons, after a long flight, a terrible night of sleep and all this troubles, I was starting to get agitated. Funny enought, the moment I got agitated, the manager showed up. Rude, he started the conversation by saying that I was too nervous, that now I would have to convince him he could help me. Having explained the whole situation, he refused to admit the problem the hotel put as through and give our money back. He claimed you cannot get cancel a reservation without a 48h notice (forgetting to aknoledge all the hotel failed to deliver), but wouldn't give us the money back for the next night or the one after that either. I told him it was very easy to judge things from the other side of the balcony, pretending he was the only one who had a say. The guy then left the reception and came on to me, as if I had challenged him for a fight. I said I would call the cops and he said he didn't care, that they wouldn't do anything. Seeing my wife crying and being in NYC to enjoy ourselves, I decided that 200 dollars wouldn't be worth my trip. We just left, lost our money and went to another hotel. It is a long email, I know, but I think everyone should know. Thanks, Bruno.
