The Bartenders and the Music make the Shadow!

by blackgoddess74

Shadow is one of those places that you really can't see why you keep going week after week, but you somehow end up back their, lol. I have been going to the Shadow for a few years now and I realized that I don't go for the men or to dress up, but I really go for the 1) Great Music and 2) The bartenders. Sugar Diddy is always great, always. What I enjoy about the music the most is that yes the do play ole school, but they are also up to date on all the new songs, I mean songs that haven't even come out on the radio. I also appreciate that the DJ is not on the mic screaming out a bunch of profanities that make the clients feel uncomfortable. The bartenders are also wonderful! I only go to three of the clubs bartenders, the tall dred with the carriebean accent Brendon, Princess and Iris, the "Duo". Its not even their drink making abilities that keep me coming back to them but their personalities always smiling, laughing and dancing. I go out to clubs often and I have to say that many bartenders out there are not half as entertaing as the Shadow bar staff. To me, those are the only two consistent things in the club. Another pro of the club is that it is afforadable, im not worried about breaking the bank on an entry fee and the price of a drink. Another reveiwer mentioned the safety of the club. I can count on one hand how many fights I have seen in that club, meaning I havent seen many. The great thing about Shadow is the costmers are not Bougie and snooty, so you feel perfectly fine going by yourself. People inside need to dress up more, please!

  • Pros: Music and bartenders.
  • Cons: The clothing attire.

Drama Free

by lilly2500

I started going there summer of '07 and always have a good time. Everyone there is different and they hate on no one, unlike all these other clubs with ther carbon cut out hoochies alawys starting something.

All the prices are reasonable and the music keeps you on your toes. As for the complaint of the oldies music and the caliber of the people, I'd just like to let you know not to worry about us and our two stepping jams we'll still be having a good time while your in your shoot out or getting your head "accidently" smashed with a cheap champaigne bottle that was paid triple for.

  • Pros: nice crowd, good music, safe.
  • Cons: none that i know of.

A Real Old Head....

by roslyn brown

Horray for the old heads, they know how to party. Unlike these young clowns who don't know how party. All they do is save up their money from the week, waste it on popping bottles, get drunk and then have to be carried out by security. Thanks but no thanks, I'm sticking to the shadow...

  • Pros: Great Crowd

The Shadow Spring/Summer 2009

by davy1378

I was at The Shadow 6/11/09 and also 6/13/09 I had a great time as usual, the music started out real slow on (Thursday Night) and after 10:30 PM the music was fast and furious,Kevin did his thing Thursday Night so I stayed for a couple of hours because I had to work the next morning. I was at The Shadow 6/13/09 (Saturday Night) It was a lot of new faces that were in the building last night, the music was awesome, but what I don't like is ,I noticed there was a man in front of the line bothering every lady that was coming up the ramp,he has a very loud mouth, and he acts very immature, and very Rude to the ladies! And another thing Ladies when you go out to The Club, always look your best, and stop with these Nasty Jeans going out to the Club to look for a Man! And the same thing to the Men that attend The Shadow,Dress to impress and stop touching on every woman you see, some Men please make sure to take a shower before you come to the club, and have some class! Ladies can you go back to the old days and please put on a Dress and some Heels? And Men can we go back to the days when men wore Suits, and some hard bottom shoes?

  • Pros: Great Club!
  • Cons: It Needs Renovation!

The Most Unprofessional, Unorganized Shabby Nightclub in NYC

by KBX1234

Let me make myself very clear...THE SHADOW HAD A REPUTATION OF BEING THE BEST NIGHTCLUB IN NYC FOR IT'S DECENCY, IT'S PROFESSIONALISM AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE AMBIANCE FOR SOMEONE'S NIGHTLIFE EXPERIENCE. These qualities that make a nightclub great do not belong to the shadow anymore! I went there this past Saturday night to celebrate my good friend's and mother's birthday. When we got there we were greeted by the kindest security ever, but, boy did it take a turn for the worse. The interior of the club is unattractive, the music put my party to sleep (if you can believe that for a night club)----it's fine to listen to old school....but, NOT FOR THE WHOLE BLOODY NIGHT!!!! I was so embarrassed that we came to this club to celebrate their birthdays. I was even more embarrassed of the quality of people that I saw there that night. The bartenders there that night, made what was otherwise a nightmare a tolerable experience. They were kind and professional and I feel that their talents and hospitality are wasted at Club Shadow. The security, which I have to hand it to, were very gracious, polite and most importantly, cared about everybody's safety. They too deserve a great credit, but, in my opinion their professional qualities are wasted at the Shadow as well. I can't believe that the Shadow is being advertised as this "end all, be all" club; I am so disappointed, because the Shadow WAS a great club. I will never go back to this place again and I WARN PEOPLE after they read this review to heed my advice and go to McDonald's....you'll have a greater time there than at the Shadow. This establishment had the potential of being one of the best clubs in Manhattan. Unfortunately, the Shadow has descended as being a little "hole in the wall nightclub" that lacks character and great nightlife experience. The competition in Manhattan far surpasses the Shadow in every way. I would never want to be caught dead in this place, however, if I was I'd blend right in. Please, steer clear.

  • Pros: The Security, The Bartenders & Coat Check Lady
  • Cons: MUSIC & Atmosphere

What more can I say??

by thatdood

Let's be clear...I always have a pretty decent time whenever I go to shadow but damn sometimes it can be a whole lot of grandmas up in there LOL. And there is no denying that there's usually a bunch of older ladies in there (35 & over) who are pretty much trying to get their with groove with the young dudes that be there. I should know...I'm one of those young dudes LOL.

  • Pros: Good dancing atmosphere
  • Cons: Long & slow azz lines

Shadow Is Great! Great Music, Drama Free Atmosphere and It's Safe To Party There!

by UrbanRokkstar

I have been going to Shadow for about 3 years now. I am 34 years old (but act like I am 20 so no old woman here *LOL!*) and I go with my husband all the time. We ALWAYS have a great time.

Shadow security is tight. Unlike some clubs we don't worry about little ganxtah youngins trying to wreak havoc up in there. I feel safe.

The music is great. Thurs is the best night in my opinion because Sugar Daddy plays the best music. Old school, the very latest, etc. An excellent mix. He is great! Chuck Chillout is cool too. Just sometimes he gets a bit stuck too much in the old school and need to mix it up better as far as playing the most recent and hottest music to cater more to the younger crowd that do be there.

The club does cater to a more MATURE crowd. To me, that's a perk. Everyone acts grown and mature and is just there to party, have fun and a great time. No drama. Even though the club crowd is more mature and grown there are still younger people who are there as well. Especially on Thurs.

I will admit that there are lots of BBW's in there. And men that are "hard-up". But hey you are in a club and you have to expect that. There are pretty and handsome people at Shadow too. Everyone is not tore up. LOL!

The bartenders are great. Drinks aren't pricey. Shadow is just a place to party and have fun and get your drink on and feel safe at the same time.

And about the owner. People love to hate on her but she is AWESOME. Always pleasant and professional. Respect her and she respects you. And security is the same.

I say if you don't like Shadow club, don't go. You surely won't be missed. LOL! The club stays packed and the line that leads all the way down the block Thur - Sat night proves that many people still love Shadow and I don't see the place going out of business anytime soon. The good reviews far outweigh the bad.

Plenty of new clubs I have tried out and only have gone to them once and end up right back at the Shadow. It's great! ;-)

  • Pros: Great music, you can truly get your dance and party on, drinks aren't pricey, tight security
  • Cons: dress code requirements sometimes not up to par, pathetic and desperate men just looking for any and all booty to grind up on (losers! LOL)
