The Food is decent but the Waitresses rush you out the Restaurant. My Friend and I ordered one appetizer and two entrees. We weren't even halfway done with the appetizer when our entrees arrived. Before we were even done with our entrees, the Busboy had come over at least three times to take our plates. Waitress was unfriendly and had a scowl on her face the entire time (like she'd rather be getting a root canal). From sitting down and ordering to paying the check was a total of 35 minutes. Completely ridiculous!!! Quite an unpleasant dining experience!! I will not be returning any time soon.

  • Pros: Good Food
  • Cons: Rude and Terrible Service

Delicious food, fabulous music and a casual, friendly atmosphere made for a terrific birthday dinner at Chat'N"Chew .My friend, boyfriend and I started the night with a round of margaritas and two appetizers:the onion ribbons and macaroni and cheese. The onion ribbons were addictive and the mac and cheese was just as tasty as my friend Carolyn described. For dinner I enjoyed the bit with sweet potato fries while my boyfriend ordered the TV dinner, which was presented in a ceramic TV tray-very kitchy and kute.I couldn't stop picking at the green bean casserole on his plate .And although we were stuffed,we had to peruse the dessert menu, having heard their cakes and pies were not to be missed. After much deliberation,we all decided to share a slice of Vesuvious and a slice of apple crumb pie-a la mode of course.I don't know which I enjoyed more-the savory dinner or rich ,sweet desserts. However, what is perhaps equally important to me is prompt and friendly service. Our server tended to all our requests with haste and good humor, which has been consistent each sunsequent time i have visited.Satisfied w/such a marvelous experience has me pointing everyone i know in the direction of Chat'n Chew.

I love this place! The food is delicious and perfect for the chilly weather, the ambience is character filled and charming and the servers are great! They are friendly, fun, and entertaining. The prices are excellent, especially for the portions and how delicious the food is. I have tried and loved uncle red's addicition, the delicious mac and cheese, the holy cow burger and the veggoe chili (my favorite). By far one of the best finds for cheap eats and friendly service in NYC. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to feel like they're at a home away from home!

went back last Saturday night with a group of friends; everyone loved it, the pork chops; Uncle Red's addiction (honey fried chicken) the tiny Mac n Cheese and the sweet potato fries and the fried oysters (all recommended); and we took a lot of it home; just too much! great value. down home atmosphere. Sit up front for more prompt service. But overall a fun and tasty time had by all.

  • Pros: very good value; large portions; good food; fun atmosphere
  • Cons: not your elegant, romantic dining experience

We went there today, a party of 4, each ordered something else and none of us particularly cared for their meal. Granted we didn't try the mac & cheese (supposedly that's their "specialty", possibly the only good item on the menu), but we all thought our meals were average-below average. Nothing to write home about. For the life of me I don't get the rave reviews on this site. Sure, this place has character, it's been around for who-knows how long (and accordingly dirty, really), but character alone doesn't maketh a good meal. If you're a starving NYU student who just wants some cheap, crappy, "comfort food" at a late hour, this place is for you. Otherwise, there are better options out there.

  • Pros: Reasonable prices, convenience of location, and atmosphere.
  • Cons: Mediocre food, lackluster service, dirty bathroom and dirtly kitchen.

The Wait staff is very rude...They crowd around like high school kids and gossip. The food is greasy. I do not recommend. I am not sure how they stay in business with such poor customer service. Management needs to wake up and address their customer's complaints. Spend your money elsewhere.

  • Pros: Large space
  • Cons: Horrible service

Been going here for years, feels like a short trip to the country every time. Love the pork chops, mashed potatos; Thanksgiving on a roll, flame grilled burgers and sweet potato fries with chipotle ketchup and chocolate coca-cola cake. Brunch is also great but always a long line. Small bar. not a late night place. sometimes slow service, but fun atmosphere. kid friendly. the chicken fried steak TV dinner looked great but was disappointing. Overall, highly recommend if you are not in a hurry. Also, large portions, no hassle to share.

  • Pros: great value
  • Cons: slow

I last went there a while back with my colleagues. The place is cramped, stuffy and unhealthy inside. Recently they have some outside sitting area in a street that is not particularly appealing.

Anyhow, the food is at best average and unhealthy as hell. The star attraction used to be the white blond waitresses who would give you extra attention if you are a cool white dude and will definitely give you attitude if you have any other appearance. It is very strange to experience this in NY city. I would not be surprised to see that in Georgia or Oklahoma or Ohio.

Therefore, if you are a like-minded white guy, entertain yourself there without any expectation on the food menu. For others, please find another place to save your sanity. They are a shame in our country.

  • Pros: Didn't find one
  • Cons: Almost everything

I've eaten here many times. Sometimes the experience is great, sometimes it's embarrassing. The food tastes great (though sometimes it takes forever), the waiters are fun (the ones who speak English at least), but the place must be owned and managed by morons. In the summer the place is like a sauna, God forbid they shut the front doors so the place can cool down. But if you're in the mood to watch the owner come in and insult the staff in front of customers, making the environment quite uncomfortable for everyone, this is the place to go. Or if you really want a good show, sit next to the kitchen and watch the manager tell them to stop making someone's food, then watch the waitress freak out when her customers start to yell at her 20 minutes later. Real professional. Or if you are waiting at the bar, the manager will try to sell you an Ipod. A very interesting environment. But hey, it's still a great turkey burger!

  • Pros: Fun environment
  • Cons: Slow service, unwanted Ipod
