Bait and Switch Restaurant! Beware!
by BCGraphix
I have been to Dukes with my gf multiple times and have taken friends there. The food has always been fairly standard BBQ fair, but one of the reasons we keep coming back is that they host some pretty decent "special deals" where you can get cheaper meals or deals on the meals... Of course, following an email blast I get from them, I check out their website to see what they have as a special deal and I find that they offer a free pitcher of beer for every 2 combo meals you order... So since I was with a group of 4 we decide this is a great deal... I even print out the website page offering this deal as proof... We go to the restaurant, I specifically tell the waitress we plan to do the combo/beer deal, she's on board, we order the pitchers, and sure enough when the bill comes it doesnt discount for the pitchers... so i show her the print out, she gives it to the manager, and the manager (a very inconsiderate woman at best) explains that this is an old deal and that it does not apply anymore... ok, maybe it is but i printed it off your own website TODAY! maybe you should honor your deals! I go to talk to her and she is unbudging and shoo's me away and offers me scratch off coupons for a next visit. personally, if you want a cheaper BBQ meal, go to Dallas BBQ, and if you want a more upbeat and nicer experience go to Blue Smoke... Duke's is a bait and switch all the way.
Good time!

My girlfriends and I went here last weekend and had a great time! The staff was very friendly and the food was great. Watch out for the Hurricanes!
- Pros: Fun Time!
- Cons: Hangover!

One m**se upstairs running across a pipe, one m**se outside of the restrooms downstairs and a huge r**ch next to our booth, not to mention a dirty fork. I couldn't eat my meal i was so grossed out. I wont return.
Worst chicken fried steak
by kookoo
I have not eaten at this location but my office ordered lunch from Duke's today. I had the chicken fried steak, but it should really be called batter fried steak with a hint of steak. I have never seen such a think slice of steak on this dish. The amount of batter was at least 5 times thicker. And for a cost of $15, it is a rip off.
Maybe other dishes are great, I only speak from my experience today with this one dish.
Duke's has no aristocratic pretension

I understand the vibe they were trying for is casual/rustic but it came accross as poorly furnished and lacking any sense of ambience in it's decor. The crowd tends to be just people stopping in for a quick meal in groups. Not a place to linger or mingle. The menu choice was not varied enough and the food was just tasty enough to be edible but barely enjoyed.
Skip It!

Poor service. The waiters don't make rounds to refill water, even when I asked for water to be refilled, the pitcher didn't have enough water for a full glass. The person I later asked to refill my glass didn't speak English. For some reason my table wasn't given a basket of bread, although all the other tables were. The music was only radio and interfered with the atmosphere. Skip it.
Bad service, good food.

While the staff are semi-friendly, they are also extremely lazy. It took forever to get my waitress' attention last night since she was sitting with the rest of the staff at a booth talking and paying no attention to her tables. The food was pretty good but I probably wouldn't return because of the service.
- Pros: tasty food
- Cons: Bad service
Slow, indifferent brunch service
by haqdiesel
We stopped in for brunch on a pretty crowded afternoon because the brunch prices were better than most in the neighborhood. While we waited for a table to open up, I ordered two bloody marys. The bartender said "I'm not sure how much that is," did something on the register screen, and said "that's 16.25." I said "so they're 8 dollars and 12 and a half cents apiece?" "Yep!" She clearly added something we didn't order, but since she didn't understand math, it seemed perfectly reasonable to her.
Our omelet plates only cost 75 cents more than our drinks, but they took forever to come out. In the meantime, the waitress didn't bring the included biscuits and strawberry jam. When our omelets came and still no biscuits, I asked her if we could get the biscuits, and she said "sure" as if I had just asked for ketchup. She brought out little blueberry muffins, sans jam, and said without apology that they were out of the biscuits.
Then the bill took forever and we left... forever.
- Pros: The food was fine, if not always what we ordered.
- Cons: Indifferent service, overcharged for drinks, didn't tell us they didn't have something we ordered until we asked about it.
Not Impressed

Yes, the decor is kind of cute and kitschy (especially the Trivial Pursuit cards on your table to play with), but only the very best BBQ can convince me to sit and eat in this kind of place. Brother Jimmy's is a good example. This is not. Anyone who knows me will tell you I am not a picky eater, but the crabcake sandwich I was served tasted absolutely bizarre. I ended up eating the fries and about half of my husband's beef brisket (which was also subpar- think Dallas BBQ, not Jimmy's or Virgil's). Don't bother.
