Great dining experience!

by CBW Travel

Seriously. This was one of my favorite dining experiences worldwide. I think because I like good food but not stuffy places, this was a perfect match for me. We sat in the front room within the buzz of the lively bar scene and enjoyed 4 courses all of which were delicious. Our server couldn't have been more down to earth and friendly even bringing a complimentary "desert bite" for me when my friend ordered and I didn't. Kudos to Danny Meyer for creating restaurants with great food without the "snobbery"!

  • Pros: Celery Root Soup, Smoked Trout, Seabass and Perfect Service
  • Cons: It's 2000 miles from my house!

A temple of seasonal small-farm cooking at its best.

by Josh Ozersky

Gramercy Tavern was already a New York institution under founding chef Tom Colicchio. But Colicchio's replacement, Michael Anthony, took the restaurant's vision of classical American cookery and commitment to local seasonal ingredients to another level. The service is still the very definition of unforced, relaxed hospitality and the cooking understated, masterful and imaginative in every way. But it's the way that everyone in the restaurant seems to share a sense of mission--of consecrating themselves to creating a perfect three-star restaurant--that sets Gramercy Tavern apart. That and the outrageously effective, utterly primitive wood stove that is the place's culinary secret weapon.

Really nice meal

by exeunt

We ate in the more casual dining room and found it to be a really pleasant space to eat. The bar is also located in the same space so it added some liveliness to the place. The more formal dining area is exquisitely decorated but seemed a little too dry for me. Tried the pork loin special. Beautifully cooked and moist. A really nice place to try. Lives up to its reputation. Prices are a little higher than I would have liked, but is a nice place to treat yourself or someone special.

  • Pros: atmosphere, food
  • Cons: price

A great place to get ripped

by Poolers

The reservation experience is quite hostile, especially when a woman calls to re confirm and sounds like she is scolding.

Our mojitos were mostly ice

what is called steak and pork has a lot of fat.

Not a good pastry chef.

We were so disappointed and it cost so much money!

From now on I am cooking.

  • Pros: spectacular bread, great room
  • Cons: tiny portions, undercooked food

Worth the long wait for a table...

by DLover

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and while we waited over an hour for a table the meal was memorable - we got a lot of food becuase there were a lot of things we wanted to try and it was worth every penny - i liked the pastrami, me lady liked the jerusalem artichoke soup - We got 3 desserts for 2 people and i have to point out that the tapioca pudding rocked - the waitress was super nice and they helped make the meal really special for my D's bday - At the end of the day thats what it was all about -

Just Quality

by ritterpete

I'm giving it 4 stars since people only seem to be disappointed when they get hyped up about a place and inevitably are bummed out afterwards. You shouldn't be if you're just looking for a good night out - it's unpretentious, you are filled up to the gills for the amount you pay and its finger licking good, the service is great and the atmosphere can be loud but you know, I like it that way rather than feeling like the wait staff is hovering over you and watching your every move compared to other high-quality restaurants.

Delicious

by lexislee2002

Went here with my boyfriend and his father. It was absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable. The ambience was elegant if not somehow oddly casual. It must have been the large steel stars on the wall, reminded me of Texas. If I could afford it, I'd go back again. If you're looking for an overall wonderful dining experience, you won't go wrong here. And I recommend the Pineapple Upside Down dessert.

  • Pros: Food, Ambience, Service
  • Cons: Prices (but you get what you pay for)

Please, may I move in?

by grouchomarx

I am in love with Gramercy Tavern. I've been there 2 times and I can't get enough. It's very hard to get a prime res but worth the effort. Do what you must! All staff starting at the front desk make you feel like a very special VIP - I know no other restaurant that does that. The ambience is exceptionally warm, inviting, and relaxing. The food is among the best I've ever had anywhere in the world and I've tried it all. The service is a dream, they don't miss a beat, they read your mind and know what you need and deliver it smoothly, quietly, perfectly. We have done both the 3 course prixe fixe and the 7 course tasting menu, both are excellent. We had paired wines with the 7 course which made it very special. The house cocktails are not to be missed - the peach basil fizz is a delicious original. If I had 1 itsy bitsy complaint it's that the people who deliver the dishes don't always speak clearly enough, so if you're doing a tasting you might notice it. Otherwise, I would describe this place as what all other restaurants should aspire to. Danny Meyer is doing things right. I feel so happy and relaxed when I eat here due to the magical chemistry of all the elements coming together seamlessly. Did I mention the food? Spectacular. Even the bathrooms merit praise, they are cozy, elegant, and offer privacy. The faint smell of the wood burning oven fills the dining room and makes you feel you are at a resort somewhere in the mountains. It is expensive but worth every cent. When the meal is done they give you a little bakery item to take home and enjoy the next morning. I always feel like I want to stay forever when I'm there! Gramercy Tavern is an enduring NY icon that never wears out or misses a step.

best i have had

by msk83

Have been to Gramercy a few times, and every time I am blown away by everything, from the mind-blowing food to the incredibly smooth service. I've even dined at the bar and had the same kind of service as in the dining room - including a free appetizer just from having a conversation and not being able to decide on one thing. have spent unbelievable amounts of money here but don't regret a cent. The vegetable tasting menu is, in my opinion, the best option on the menu, I order it every time - Michael Anthony knows his veggies. Just wish they'd hurry up and change their menu so we can try some new things after 5 months...I'm impatient for more new masterpieces :)
