So so.
by JeanMc
Had the duck curry noodles -- a heaping portion, but unfortunatlely, it was very oily, and nothing special. I've had better meals at Spice for the same price. the food definitely felt heavier than how i'd imagined it when i decided to order it.
The host this afternoon wasn't exactly helpful, and the server was very slow and gave me the check a moment after giving me my entree... Not exactly rude, but definitely lacking a little tact.
- Pros: bustling, located just off of union square
- Cons: average food... average service
Great Asian Fusion on a budget!
by BaroqueDood
Republic is a Asian fusion restaurant- meaning don't expect traditional Chinese food. If you want that, then go to Chinatown. Be warned: drink refills are NOT free ; and you're charged a lot for sodas in small glasses. The spicy beef broth noodle soup is a favorite of mine. If you do not like cilantro, warn your waiter. Service tends to be spotty for my visits: prime time hours, wait staff are pretty busy and don't pay enough attention to you. I've taken several friends here and they leave pretty happy with the dishes. I would encourage the management to work on waiter service and walk around asking customers about their experiences, it *definitely* needs improvement.
- Pros: Fusion dishes, value for your money, fast delivery of food to table after ordering
- Cons: Too loud (please add something to the walls), wait staff not too attentive.
Service AND Food is really bad!
by Network233
Earlier today i had my first experience at Republic. Let me tell you that it was probably the worst experience i have ever had in a food establishment..... EVER.
I was served the worst bowel of wonton soup ever, not to mention the most revolting green tea on earth. But i think that the most interesting aspect of the visit wasn't the food it was the service. Our waiter never returned to the table to see if everything was ok, or to offer refills, or anything like that. The host, when approached, was a smart a** and the manager never came to the table to fix anything or apologize. I come from a food background and i would have to say that this whole incident was miss handled from the beginning.
- Pros: looks good on the outside.
- Cons: everything! STAY AWAY
Noodles for my Pood Nood
by DLover
Ive been to republic roughly 2-trillion times - its cheap as hell and always hits the spot - Try the grilled beef - watercress salad - spicy beef soup - chicken lime soup - ive tried pretty much everything but those are my favs -
Summertime at republic is the best because they have outdoor seating - great people watching around the park and a nice place to sit and read while you chow down. Indoor seating involves you sitting down at cafeteria style tables with strangers - it isnt great but its not a deal breaker - All this talk about Republic is making me want some - hmmm....think i may head over there now and pick something up...holllerrrrrrr
- Pros: foods fresh fast cheap and delicious
- Cons: seating situation is not ideal
Bad Food
by BenBart67
We just ate here for my wife's birthday. A few hours later my wife got horrifically sick from the food. Not only was her birthday ruined but when I called to speak to the manager he was shady. He wouldn't even tell me his name. Rather than apologizing he claimed that it wasn't their fault because it hadn't been a full 6 hours since we ate there. (Which is untrue, some bacteria can attack you within an hour.)
I have a feeling that we aren't the only one's to have been affected by tainted food recently.
I will never go here again, and I don't recommend you do either. It's not worth the trouble.
- Pros: Atmosphere
- Cons: Horible Food
blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

this place is horrible. I can't even think about the food to write about it. the service was fine, she did her duties. just another place that caters to mass public.
FANTASTIC -- huge portions, small prices.

This place is the PERFECT casual dining spot. Everything on the menu is relatively inexpensive, but the quality is fantastic, and the portions are always huge. Where else in NYC can you order a watercress salad that's actually big enough to be a meal (okay, well, depending on how hungry you are...), for $4? You pay $4 for a bowl of rice at some restaurants! This is a great summer restaurant, especially if you sit outside. I recommend their Frozen Lychee martini (but be warned, it's thick enough to be a smoothie) and for dessert, the Black Sesame ice cream.

This place used to be good.. I am talking 10 years ago. Now it's just bland and gross. The food made me naseous. Go to Whole Foods instead. I recommend the sushi.
- Pros: Convenient
- Cons: Will make you sick

I personally was put off by the whole fusion thing. my vegetable red curry soup was too weird. mix of indian/thai/chinese. really odd. the starters we ordered were the seafood wontons which were oily but okay to taste. the fried tofu was just average. mango-papaya salad was nice. we also got a mixed fried rice which was average. overall, this place is okay for those who like the whole mix-match fusion thing. I did not like it and I did not find the food to be all that great.
- Pros: pricing, location
- Cons: food, music too loud
trendy & fun

Reasonably priced, delicious food, excellent specialty cocktails (lychee martini is excellent as is the bl ood organe martini) and it is a cool atmosphere. Has a very distinct smell that could be off-putting to some.
