great, affordable sushi!!!

easily one of my favorite sushi spots in manhatten. the 'salmon lovers' is the best. buttery goodness. always a good meal.

"our usual place"

Kura is deemed "our usual place" whenever our group wants to get together for dinner and cannot decide on a specific venue. We're usually a party of 6 or more (depending on who shows up to town) and Kura is most accomodating. The food is excellent as pieces are large in size and fresh. I'm a very finicky fish eater and never complained about eating here. The music is at a perfect volume and contributes to the ambience but not too loud since we're usually 'catching-up' with each other. And although the general review states a non-kid friendly environment, our group has brought our 4 children along (age ranges 3-9 ; granted they eat california rolls, eel rolls and the noodle dishes). It's not one of those trendy places but I recommend for sushi lovers.

one of my favorite sushi places in nyc!

If you just want good sushi this is a very good bet. My wife and I go here whenever we get a craving for sushi.

The other dishes are very nice too. I recommend the shitake and asparagus and the white tuna sashimi appetizer. The hamachi (yellow tail) is usually amazing....and I've also had great luck with spanish mackeral and red snapper. Unagi and ikura are always good. Best bet is to ask the waiter or waitress what is fresh and you will be very happy. The prices are reasonable and you rarely have to wait to be seated. Enjoy!

Great neighborhood sushi

We go all the time. It's close by in the neighborhood and all the food is great. I always order sushi and my boyfriend will usually get the hot dishes. Many places have a hard time doing well with both but Kura satisfies

all of our cravings. The food is great and we love that the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. More traditional than trendy makes for a comfortable setting. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive.

If your craving for Japanese, and it's down the block, come here. I wouldn't mind having it at least once a week. If you dine in, there's always a new special menu. Or you can call to pick up, and when they say it'll be ready, it will be!

neighborhood sushi corner sport

this is a great neighborhood sushi corner spot (i live around the corner). the sushi is more than ok for the price, i would think. meals are tasty and satisfying. miso soup was ok and definitely not it came from a campbell soup can or whatever the previous negative review said.

Fatty Greyish salmon and ratchety chicken!

This place has some of the worst sushi I have ever had! Dont know what kind of crack the other reviewers are on, but give me some! Fish was fishy, chicken was bottom feeder, and yes like the other review, the miso soup was like Campbells chicken noodle!

Do yourself and your stomach a favor, and avoid at all costs!!!

Our favorite sushi place

I've eaten a lot of sushi. And it's not that Kura blows my mind, which has happened at other places, it's just that there's a really good vibe to the place and the food is consistently excellent. Service is relaxed and aware. We regularly travel all the way there from Astoria, Queens, we love it so much. Of course, that gives us an excuse to stop by dba or even Zum Schneider while we're at it...

• Cons: None worth mentioning
