I've counted 38 bedbug bites on me from staying here for a wknd

by rc618

A week after my trip to NYC, I noticed these insect bites popping up all over my arms and legs. They are itchy as hell. I had no clue what was happening to me, I was freaking out. So I searched the net on insect bites and I came across this article on bed bu gs :

www.msnbc.msn,com/id/11823244/

and I remembered clearly coming across 1 or 2 of those bu gs on the sheets, at the time I didn't think anything of it and just brushed it off the bed.

Sure, it's a great location, close by to great restaurants, bars, and the subway.

Paid $120 a night for a wknd in Mid Dec.

Subway ride from JFK to st.marks costs $7 and a little under 2 hrs

If you really must stay there, clearly inspect your the bed/sheets, edges of carpet for bed bu gs, if you see one, that means the room is infe sted. get out of there!

  • Pros: great location, convenience
  • Cons: bedbug infestation

Clean rooms but no elevator/lift and next to noisy streets!

by gez

Stayed here for a couple of days in September 2006, last minute booking (quite literally walked in off the street), so we were glad to find somewhere for me and my friend for just $140 for a twin double room each night.

If you have heavy bags then you won't like the fact that there is no elevator/lift. The hotel is fairly nicely decorated, lots of light woodwork stairs and quite clean.

The staff were polite and helpful, especially the daytime receptionist who was very accommodating.

Although the hotel is ideally located, the rooms are not double glazed so bring your ear plugs as this hotel sits on the corner of a busy crossroad unless you are lucky enough to get a room away from the road.

The bathroom was mimimal but very clean and all the usual towels, etc provided. The rooms had some small space to hang clothes (no iron) and the air con worked fine. The beds were quite spring and creaky but comfortable enough. No mini-bar or tea making facilities. The TV had a couple of hardcore adult channels on it if thats your thing or maybe not a good idea to book in any elderly folk!!! I imagine the adult channels & the stairs (no elevator/lift remember) might just finish them off ;-)

Checkout is 11am. Would stay again if I could get a room away from the noisy street, on the whole a great budget price to be in the centre of things.

  • Pros: Location & Price
  • Cons: Next to noisy crossroad, No elevator/lift.

Nightmare on St. Marks Place

by ee_me_me

I had three friends from out of town book a room here -- a "triple room," as the hotel called it -- only to be shown to a disgusting and extremely bare-bones hole in the wall with ONE full-sized bed. My friends asked how three adults were expected to sleep in one bed like that and the staff ignored them. Two of my friends stayed with me that night while the other braved the room for one night...and said it was the most frightening night of his life. He didn't sleep and he didn't feel safe. This place is a nightmare, AVOID! It's not a bargain, it's really bad.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: ALL OF IT

Great location but overall, eh

by cdobbelaere

Tolerably clean rooms, but hard to get to. This hotel must have been built a long, long time ago: one room we were showed on the top floor had no window, only a skylight. We had to walk up many flights to get to the room. And there was someone playing creepy sounding porno at top volume. If you stay here, I would get a room near the desk, you'll be up all night listening to people come in and out, but at least you will feel safe. I would not stay here alone.

  • Pros: nice area
  • Cons: small rooms

Dont Do it!

by jenniferbrla

There are plenty more value hotels in NYC to stay in. The staff was not helpful, in fact, rude and unwilling! We were yelled at, called names and verbally abused by the staff - for walking too loud on the stairs! And then the managers were unwilling to help make it right. They would not even help find us transporation back to the airport b/c the clerk was "too busy!". I have stayed many places, but by far this was the worst. The room was ok, clean and neat, but the staff (except for one person) made this stay horrible. There was no fan, and we had to open the window - forget about TV - we had two choices - and one of which was not family friendly! Please reconsider choosing this hotel! For the price - it was not worth it!

  • Pros: clean
  • Cons: , unwilling, rude staff

Sehorn Loves the Ale House

by moc76

I've been a regular at the Ale House for 5 years. I can't say enough about it. A great bar with good people and an impresive selection of on tap beers.

  • Pros: Great staff, great beer selection, Sunday Football

Within walking distance...

by frat78

This place is in within walking distance of a lot of very good bars. We recently had a bachelor party in NYC, and we stayed at this hotel. Upon check in, the desk person asked how come we only had 2 rooms and there were 11 people, and he would not allow all 11 to split 2 rooms. So, we said "OK, only 4 of us will stay, and these other guys will not stay over." The desk clerk agreed, and when we got back to the hotel after a night of drinking at 5am, all 11 of us had no problem going up to our rooms and crashing. People are can be very dense sometimes. Otherwise, this is a perfect hotel to stay in if you spend the night drinking.

  • Pros: Good location, A/C
  • Cons: annoying staff
