worst bar EVER!!

by nyconeohone

This bar has the worst sound system and the bitchiest bartenders. Plus the decor is so lame - Barmacy was so much better and cooler :( too bad for 14th street.

  • Pros: none!!
  • Cons: Gray haired managers!

Great Find

by LemonadeStand

My friend's and I accidently stumbled upon this place the other night while trying to find a good, COVER FREE, bar to go to. We really thought it was a hair store until we saw people getting their IDs checked at the door. It has a cool crowd, a bunch of NYU students, and quirky music that grows on you. It was a bit crowded but this didn't bother me much.

  • Pros: Cover free, good music
  • Cons: A little crowded

Avoid Big Guy w/Dreads who works there or simply avoid this place altogether.

by DyeYup14

Went here to hang with one of my friends from the band Eagles Of Death Metal. This place turned out to be horrible for all of us, but what really ruined it was this guy with long dreads who kept shoving everyone out of the way, then saying he worked there just as an altercation almost ensued each time. Then he'd go behind the bar and do shots. Nothing wrong with doing shots on the job but having a thug display a thug mentality at what I thought would've been a cool bar is enough to have me and any bands represented by my band management team to avoid this place at all costs. Stick with the lower east side cool spots, as opposed to Beauty Bar which is almost midtown east, like Stanton Public, Motor City or The Box to bring your bands or to hang out with bands. There's nothing else in the neighborhood of Beauty Bar if you get stuck there, but feel free to go there and get roughed up & almost get into a fight with thug security who can't handle their alcohol.

  • Pros: great place to ditch a lame date
  • Cons: thug bouncer with dreads

Fav bar of all time

by CJ812

I love beauty bar, it is amazing. I just wanted to say that because I feel like they are getting bashed on this website. It was the first bar friends took me to when I moved to NY and it is still one of the best. Great music, fun people...and great bartenders.

Plus they have an awesome happy hour until 9 and usually a good dj/dance party in the back :)

Nothing but love here!

  • Pros: strong drinks, good music, cheap manicures
  • Cons: dirty bathroom

Extremely Rude

by sarahalexander

I had tried calling this place today to book a bachlorette party there. I needed to talk to them b/c I had several questions to ask. I called 3 times and got severe static on the phone. I went to their website to complain about it and this is the email that I received in return from MStewart@beautybar.

You win for most ridiculous email that we have

received in our thirteen unprofessional years of

successful business. Why is a technical problem with

the phone company an indication of a failure on our

part? At least our email works fine!

Yes, it would seem that their email does work fine, but not their customer service.

Beauty Bar=Bad Service + Unsanitary Manicures

by Jess000Jess

I went with my friends last night, and have to say that the bar tender was probably the rudest person I've encountered in years. She grabbed my friends' IDs (instead of asking for them) and when we commented, she threw an attitude and said that she refused to serve who she considered "S#x and the City wannabees" (her verbiage, not mine). I looked over to the dimly-lit area where there were manicures going on, and didn't see sufficient lighting, NOR DID I SEE ANY NAIL SANITARY EQUIPMENT! I saw the nails of a recently-manicured girl in the ladies' room, and it looked like a toddler painted her nails. We ended up going for manicures at a nearby salon, and had drinks at a bar where the people want to "know our names."

  • Pros: NONE
  • Cons: Everything and a bag of chips

WORST MANICURE OF MY LIFE!

by jenga47

So I am new to New York and heard all this buzz about a manicure & Martini... It was time I got a new coat a paint, being that the old one had chipped thoroughly, so I thought what the hell I could go for a drink too. First of all the bartender wasn't even sure if the manicurist was going to show up. I sipped my martini waiting patiently chatting with the owner (they were both really nice). Rachel finally showed and got all set up. I was so excited- it has always been a dream of mine to combine two of my favorite rituals (booze and beauty). Rachel was very sweet and nice, we had a great conversation; unfortunately though she did such a horrible job on my nails that I will not be going back- first of all I didn't even get the hand massage that is part of a normal manicure, she didn't nip my cuticles, and there was polish nearly up to my knuckles. I was shocked especially since she said she was in beauty school. I mean honestly my 6 year old niece does a better job painting nails. Not to mention the fact that she layered on the base, polish, and top coat so thick that now, the next day, the polish is simply peeling off like a sticker- what a mess! The funny thing is that as we were getting started she asked me if I got regular manicures or if it was a once in a while type thing; this makes me wonder if she did such a crappy job because I told her I don't get them that often... doesn't make much sense but all I could figure.

The mani & martini for ten bucks you would think is a great deal but after tips for both the bar and manicurists I spent $17 on a well Martini and a manicure that didn't last through the night. There are several other places in the city that take this task a bit more seriously, I would recommend them as Beauty bar is simply a novelty.

  • Pros: Nice people
  • Cons: Worst maicure ever

beauty bar? more like ugly bar

by poopdog54

Guys, make sure to wear your emo glasses and a patchy beard. Girls, you aren't allowed to have shaved legs. Everytime my ugly friends drag me there, a little part of me dies inside.

  • Pros: good swingers scene, as long as your blind and lack a sense of smell
  • Cons: hah

Manicures were AWESOME!!!!

by GROOVEGRRLL

This place is AMAZING and the manicure martini ROCKED!!! We had a bachelorette party for our friend there so we could do the "manicure/martini" special and the manicurists - both named Rachel - REALLY took care of us! Not only were they super cool and nice, but we all came out with great manicures with glitter and funky blue nails!! (they also have more "normal" colors too) The drinks were great - I highly recomment the PRELL. As for the lady below who didn't like her manicure, -- ours were great and Rachel (both of them) is really cool. Our manicures turned out great! We had a great time - highly recommended for a girly night out!

  • Pros: Great Manicures- Staff Took Care of Us
  • Cons: Nonoe
